I was recently tested for my vitamin d levels. The test came back my doctor said I was at a 10.2 he said the range is usually 32-100. So now he starting me on D2 50000iu for 8 weeks. Then he will retest and see what happens and after that he will lower it or increase it. Has anyone else had this problem. I have cluster headaches 3-5 times a day even with preventative medicine. I have been like this for at least 5 years. I use the sumaville dos pro to break a cluster when I get them and cannot handle it anymore. I use 2 shots a day.

Hoppy is spot on.  Starting the anti-inflammatory regimen with 10,000 IU/day vitamin D3... not D2... is the fastest way to get your CH under control.

According to the experts in vitamin D therapy, vitamin D3 is three to four times more effective than vitamin D2...  Some physicians like to use vitamin D2 because it's a prescription item...  Vitamin D3 is an over the counter USP available almost everywhere.

It's not that your physician is giving you a bum medical advice...  He's just using a dated standard of care treatment guideline for a vitamin D3 deficiency...    See the following link why you should be taking vitamin D3 and not vitamin D2:

I take it from one of your first posts that you live in Virginia...  If you can get to Costco, they've got the best price on Nature's Bounty 5,000 IU vitamin D3.  Giant Food Markets also carry the complete list of supplements used in the anti-inflammatory regimen.  The other brand of vitamin D3 I suggest is Nature Made... 

The main reason I suggest these two brands is because the ingredients are prepared here in the US and carry a U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) label...  The USP label indicates the USP has conducted an independent laboratory analysis on the supplement to ensure purity and strength...

You won't find a USP label on Nature's Bounty supplements.  However, their facilities have been successfully audited by the United States Pharmacopeia and STR (Specialized Technology Resources), a leading independent dietary supplement quality evaluation firm.

Unfortunately, there are some brands that are produced in China where USP type organizations do not exist...  Some of these supplements are tainted with possible toxins and few provide the strength listed on the label...  This is one case where made in the US is a must...

Back to treating your vitamin D3 deficiency...  CH'ers with low 25(OH)D lab results, i.e., < 20 ng/mL have successfully used an accelerated vitamin D3 dosing schedule consisting of 25,000 IU/day plus a 50,000 IU loading dose of vitamin D3 once a week on top of the daily dose. 

They also take the rest of the anti-inflammatory regimen including 1000 to 2000 mg/day Omega-3 Fish Oil and the vitamin D3 cofactors: 500 mg/day calcium (calcium citrate preferred), 400 mg/day magnesium, 10 mg/day zinc, boron, vitamin A (retinol) and vitamin K2 (MK-4 & MK-7) at RDA.

the simple way to get most of the cofactors is to buy the Kirkland brand of calcium citrate or Citracal Plus... They both have similar formulations.  You'll also need to add a tablet of Centrum Silver or the Safeway brand Century Senior 50+ Formula to get the vitamin K2 and vitamin A.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the info from both of you. Batch I would discuss D3 with my doctor but he does things his way. He wants me on the D2 and that's final their is no other way. I have had blow outs with him over medicines. I am trying to get a new Neuroligist to help me. My family doctor is no better. He wants to stay completely out of my medical treatment which is crazy. He will be the next replacement once I get into the Neuroligist I want. But I do agree with you I should be on vitamin D3 instead of 2 daily. Thanks for letting me know which brand of vitamins to get I had no idea that their was a difference in the way that it was produced. To give you an example of a medicine fight me and him had. I was taking over 480mg of verapamil a day. 240 in the morning and 80 3 times a day. I had gotten severely sick. I developed drug induced porphyria. I could barely move I was passing out. Blacking out. I called him and told him it was making me sick. He tells me keep taking it. So I do. I go to the ER a week later I get released from the ER they did urine work and found my porphyria levels were dangerously high. I went to the Mayo Clinic. The guy tells me no more Verapamil  reruns the test my levels drop never had another problem. My neuroligist gets mad and tells me you need to take it. You are the one not wanting to take it. I blasted him out in his office so bad I was done. I had the doctor from the Mayo Clinic call him and tell him he was stupid and that I was not to go back on it. I told him I would sue him so bad I he did not stop. So he finally quit. After the director of Mayo clinic blasted him out. Thanks for all the help I appreciate it and I will most likely be taking the D3 I will also try to discuss this with him and see what reaction I get from him.
