Yep, he's coming to TEXAS to visit and hunt hogs. Don't know when he's getting here or how long he's staying but he said he's coming today...

He was sketchy on details except that he's going to be here today and is bringing one (or two - he wasn't sure) friends with him.

Haven't seen him in a LONG time and am anxious for him to get here and get my hugs.

And YES, we'll take pictures (hopefully of him with his big pig).

Anyone in the area that wants to see him - come on down.. PM me for my phone number and I'll give you directions to the farm. I've got the wood stacked up for a bonfire tonight and have a pot of beans on for dinner. The more the merrier.. And if you haven't met Pete - well.. what can I say.. it's worth a trip to meet him.. (and don't tell him I said that)

Well I heard from one of the guys (Shep) .. he's almost to Texarkana. He said Pete flew into Dallas last night so he should be getting here sometime soon.. I'm getting excited..

Well he finally got here and so did Shep.. Art couldn't make it (had to work) so it's just the two of them.

Pete looks great and we've been talking non stop ever since he got here (if you can imagine Pete talking any at all ::)).

He brought me a new supply of D3 and gave me the lecture and I'm sure he'll make sure I take it all. But it's working so who am I to argue.

Probably why I'm yawning today. Kept me up WAAAY past my bedtime last night and was up before daylight this morning  and he's still got a million of them..  :)  But I've laughed solid since he's been here. And when he's not telling one Shep is.

Right now they're in the bottom looking for pigs (or some kind of critter..).. I think Shep would take a bobcat at this stage.. He got a picture of one last night that was a BIG 'en..

And I've tried posting the pictures and it keeps telling me the files are too large and it won't load them. Never had that problem before. Will try again or get Shep to load some for me. Batch didn't bring his computer and I'm not sure if he'd lower himself to using mine (it's not a MAC).  ;)

Well it's "almost" daylight and I'm up  - the dogs are up - the hogs are probably up but the "boys" are still sleeping peacefully. I'm debating whether to wake them or not. They had plans to get out before daybreak and get the "big one".

When I went to bed they were discussing it over "drinks" and a bonfire.. Maybe they changed their plans.. ::)  Never know with kids..

So we begin another day of fun (maybe if they get up).. one of them left the cat in so they may be on pooper duty  :).

Anyhow, I hope ya'll have as much fun today as I'm planning to have. These guys are a blast. I wish I could keep them all winter. And I haven't had a headache since they've been here.. Pete has me on so many vitamins I don't think I have time to have one for taking pills.  :)   :-*

Y'all have fun.  Hug Pete's neck for me, with a thank you for all the help he's been to me.  he's got all my Dr's up in arms about my D3 numbers, but my head is in the best shape it's been in 35+ yrs.  Not totally PF, but closest I've been in a long, long time.

Sad news.. Pete left yesterday (tears). I miss him and wished he could have stayed, but Joyce told him he had to come home. (How rude!). Shep is still here and the last I saw of him last night he and my neighbor were heading for a deer stand about 10 p.m. to find a pig. (This was after several drinks.. haven't checked to see if they got back)

One of Idiot Son's friends came in about dark and he and Shep hit it off really well and Randy told him he would be up about 4 to get him up for a big hunt this morning. Shep informed him he slept with a loaded 45 and knew how to use it.

Needless to say, there's been a LOT of laughter going on around here this week and the best news is - NO HEADACHES. I think Pete's vitamins are working (and I said that softly, with fingers crossed, but I haven't even had a shadow since he's got me on all these pills).

But I've got to tell the "story" - and Pete and Shep will not live this one down in this lifetime. They got my guns out and had a "cleaning" and then decided that I might need to learn to "shoot from the hip" with a 12 gauge. So I got a gun course. So far so good ... Instructions over.. Ok Barb - final exam.  Here's the bullet - there's the target - go for it. (Did I forget to mention - no one looked at the damn shell real close? :P)

(For those who don't know me - I weigh in at a little over 100 pounds). I do EVERYTHING right and then pull the trigger. My neighbor caught me before I went thru the side of the house. Yep.. I actually came OUT of my tennis shoes. It was a magnum shell and a little more than I could handle from the hip.  :-/ As soon as my rib unbruises I'll be fine and can breath again. :)

Pete and Shep had a look on their faces that I WISH someone had gotten a picture of. It was definitely a Kodak moment. But we found the right shell and I did the shooting from the hip with the right ammo and they pronounced me ready for whatever came along. And my shoes were right where I came out of them.

I've probably said this 1000 times on here, but if you ever get a chance to spend time with a CHer DO IT! It's fun - it's an adventure and you never know what's going to happen next.

Shep has known Pete for 40 or 50 years and knew he had "headaches" - then he gets around Pete and me and hears us talking and gets a total education and all he can say is "wow".. and we're laughing about them. My neighbor is up here and she's trying to relate them to migraines and we're laughing about that.

Anyhow this has been so great. Pete said when he got home he'd post some more pictures. I'm just not wanting it all to end.  :-*

It’s always a special occasion when CH’ers meet…  My visit with Barbara at her ranch South of Douglassville TX last week was no exception...   

The last time Barb and I met face-to-face was at the OUCH Conference in Dallas in 2008…  5 years was too long…  Even though we’ve stayed connected over that 5 years by email, phone calls and Skype…  there was lot of catching up to do…

Lots of comfort food and generous libations…  She had a big pot of ham beans, a couple huge links of wonderful Texas Wurst soaked in Jack Daniel's honey glaze and cornbread ready when Shep and I arrived last Tuesday.  She fixed us some awesome chicken fried steak with smashed taters & gravy the next night…  We had a 5 star feed bag on for the entire visit…  The only thing I could do was bring along a big Silver Salmon fillet from my last fishing trip to Pelican, AK.

I know there's going to be another trip out to see Barbara next year around this time... if not sooner…

Barb cast a spell on Shep and me… with a little twitch of her nose and snap of her fingers…

We spent four days and nights tracking feral hogs and cleaning up the hunting blinds with nothing to show for the effort…  We even overhauled Barb's Artict Cat Prowler...  No key so we had to hot-wire the ignition and the seats were shot so we fashioned new seats out of some spare foam and floor mats...

Two days after I left…  Shep got lucky…

Shep got this 300 lb feral bore hog early Sunday evening…  It took two come-alongs to winch this big hog into a pickup truck.  He spent the next three hours cutting and wrapping to get the meat into Barb’s freezer.

I just spoke with Shep and he’s got everything loaded up and meat iced down the for the drive back to his home in South Central Tennessee…

I talked to Shep earlier today and he made it home (with a stopover in Memphis and dinner with his brother) and is "resting" up for the next adventure.

I miss those guys already... my house is so darn quiet today.. And YES Pete - I took ALL my vitamins..  :).

For those of you who've never experience another CHer.. it's just something that can't be explained .. but wonderful. For some reason - we're not ever strangers - it's a bond for "life" and well... it just can't be explained, but I can't wait till Pete comes back.. and he knows his friends are welcome.. that's how we "roll".. When you get here you're just family and you get treated that way.. Heck I fuss at everybody..  ::) 

And I'm glad to get rid of that piggy.. At least he won't be trying to eat the doggie's food. (Have that Bull Terror named Toby and Pete changed his name to Spuds and the darn thing is answering to Spuds now).

So now it's back to the real world and the work on my desk... But the memories will last a long time.. Luv you guys so much.. (and that's it for the MUSH!)  :-* :-* :-*
