Title: Attacks increased with small dose of D3 Post by cch on Nov 29th, 2013 at 3:02pm
Hi,
I read about the D3 regimen and I ordered the required vitamins online but they will take sometime to get them however I have now vitamin D3 800 IU with 600mg Calcium in hand so I took these pills as a start until I get the D3 5000 IU with other vitamins but the problem I found the number of CH attacks increased from 1~2 daily to 3~4 times. What this mean and what I should do ? Thanks |

CCH,
Thanks for the headzup you've started taking vitamin D3 and good question. An increase in CH frequency is not uncommon for a few CH'ers after starting the anti-inflammatory regimen. Roughly 5 to 8% of CH'ers have reported this phenomenon... It's not clear why this is happening... My guess is what little 25(OH)D and the active metabolite 1,25(OH)2D3 being produced by the first few doses of vitamin D3 are both being consumed very rapidly by other processes in the body like the immune system. That somehow results in the increase of CH frequency. Nearly all of the CH'ers who experienced an initial increase in the frequency of their CH, saw the CH frequency drop after a week to 10 days. Most of them were pain free shortly thereafter. I also think your problem will go away once you start taking the complete anti-inflammatory regimen with at least 10,000 IU/day vitamin D3. Do consider the accelerated vitamin D3 dosing schedule when your supply of supplements arrive... 20,000 IU/day vitamin D3 for two weeks plus a 50,000 IU loading dose once a week for two weeks on top of the daily dose. At the beginning of the third week, stop the loading dose vitamin D3 and lower the daily vitamin D3 intake to 15,000 IU/day. After two weeks taking 15,000 IU/day, lower the daily intake to a maintenance dose of 10,000 IU/day and try to get your 25(OH)D level tested. For now double your present dose and try to find some additional magnesium. 400 mg/day should do the trick... When your supply of anti-inflammatory supplements come in and you experience a favorable response to this regimen, be sure to put more supplements on order... You're going to want to stay on this regimen year-round for a long time... Take care and please keep us posted. V/R, Batch |

Hi,
When I started D3 some weeks ago, I had an increase in the number of attacks the first two days, but a decrease in length and severity. After that it all just got better and better, now I am PF :) Connie |

Same as Vikinggirl here. Each little increase made my hits worse for a day or two. I finally did a loading dose under Batch's supervision last Tuesday..that night, hit every 2 hrs with kip 7-8. Next night hit 2 times with shadows. Last night...shadow after 2 hrs, kip 4 after next 2 hrs and then 5 hours sleep and PF this am. May even take a nap!
Do not give up! Judy |
