Has anyone had experience with a new tank of oxygen (e-tank, medical grade) burning their throat or making their lungs hurt. I am worried about this reaction to a tank my husband started last night. We're at about two and a half months into this cycle. He's worried about what to do when tonight's cluster hits. Other than switching tanks, obviously. But he is worried that he could be developing a reaction to the oxygen therapy itself. Is that possible? Thanks!

Good question... In over 30 years of sucking down aviation and medical grade 100% oxygen, I've never had the sensations you mentioned. 

The only real indication of oxygen purity without chemical analysis is smell...  If the oxygen smells funny or has any odor, call the home oxygen supplier and ask for a replacement.

Oxygen is dry... very dry.  Some CH'ers need to sip water during oxygen therapy.  I generally don't suggest using a humidifier/bubbler as the flow rates needed for faster aborts are generally greater than 15 liters/minute. 

At these flow rates oxygen carries oxygen mist rather than humidified oxygen.  Breathing this mist pumps too much moisture into the lungs.

On several occasions I have experienced what your husband is concerned with.

Your concern of a bad tank is most likely not realistic as much as a dry mouth to begin with. 
 
I have found that sipping water, preferably slamming a RedBull, before hyperventilating o2 prevents that "burning throat" feeling and also helps speed up the abort.
