Hey guys, have always had my cycles around spring time (Australia) and only discovered the D3 regime last cycle and had a lot of success. Not a single attack throughout the spring season.

I started getting migraines as of late, but I believe due to lack of sleep and additional stress.

I went to discuss again with my GP and he suggested I try:

SANDOMIGRAN 0.5mg tablets to reduce frequency of migraines.

As we all know, we all seem to be some what different in triggers and treatments, although the D3 regime has seen a lot of success.

I just wanted to ask if anybody has tried SANDOMIGRAN with any success for CHs? I have again upped my dose of D3 and am starting the regime again. Would just like to know if I could/should supplement this drug with the D3 regime. I'm more inclined to avoid pharmaceutical medicines if possible and will take a SUMATRIPTAN as a last resort. Any replies are greatly appreciated!  :)

In it's basic formation, known as octreotide, it has been used with moderate succdess as in an injection form.

Notable absence medical literature since it was first mentioned for Cluster. That translates into, "not so hot".

Just can't find any evidence that it gained any real attention in our camp.

I live in Oz and par for the course here from ignorant GPs is to prescribe SANDOMIGRAN, or Pizotifen. In the late 80s, as a 13 year old, this was the 2nd or 3rd drug of the now 70+ I have trialled in my lifelong CH condition.

It is aimed at Migraine headache and prescription of it by a GP/PCP in CH more or less shows that they either know JACK about CH, or are taking a quite uneducated stab-in-the-dark at CH treatment.

As a Mod and Admin on the Oz site, I came across quite a few who were prescribed Sandomigran in CH. I struggle to understand why Australian GPs have such a preoccupation with prescribing this drug BEFORE specialist referral for proper investigation of headache condition(s).

Working with CH patients on the forums and through PMs, we quickly ascertained the drug's inefficacy in managing CH and nearly every single Pizotifen user moved onto another, more knowledgeable Doctor for "correct" CH treatment, subsequently discovering more appropriate drugs for their CH condition(s).

IMO, Sandomigran, or Pizotifen is useless as pissing up a rope. It does not even target the "correct" known Serotonin receptors that we hit with our usual arsenals of drugs for CH.

It made me vomit, gave me visual disturbances, photophobia (all of which, at the time WERE NOT attributable to my CH) weight gain, and to top it all off, it increased frequency, severity and bought about my first ever run of rebound attacks. That was a 9 month trial of hell.

I can't vouch for the currency of info there, check to see if listed practitioners are still practicing, give them a call.

If you are being given Sandomigran for CH, ask for a referral for specialist diagnosis of headache type and hopefully, they will prescribe and supervise more appropriate drug treatment in your individual case.

In the 9-15 months wait it will take to see a Neuro here, you may want to ask your GP for a "bailout drug", perhaps some Imigran (Sumatriptan) and be assessed as to whether it is appropriate for you to use, in your headache type.
A GP should offer you some relief and pain management while you await the often lengthy referral process here.
