Title: Imitrex and Heat Palpitaitons Post by mdrnlifeisrubish on Feb 27th, 2014 at 1:46pm
Hello :)
I am a 26 year old female, new to this site. I have had cluster headaches and migraines since I was 7 years old. At age 15 I started taking imitrex injections and slowly started having the side effect of heart palpitations. When I was 22 I started taking my imitrex injections out of the "pen" so I could inject 1/4-˝ of the meds because I realized I really didn't need all of it. I was using it at least once a day for about a year. After having a complete mental breakdown, panic attacks, anxiety, and extreme heart palpitations I quit the injections cold turkey and had the worst palpitations EVER. One night (about 2 months after no injections) the palpitations were so bad that I decided to take some imitrex to see what would happen and they stopped immediately and ceased until the meds wore off. Now, 3 years later I am still getting horrible palpitations and they make it hard to do anything, even the most simply tasks. They keep me up at night, they hurt, and they are uncomfortable. You can see them/ my heart beating in my chest, and I can feel them in my upper abdomen now. (I have been to a doctor and have an appt. with a cardiologist next week). I wanted to know if anyone else has these symptoms. I would also love to read any information out there relating to imitrex and heart palpitations. From my reattach it seems that imitrex relieves headaches by expanding blood vessels in your head, but doesn't it also expand the blood vessels in your heart... thus it could directly connect to palpitations? Please help if you can... I feel like my heart is going to explode! Thank you, Sara |

When Imitrex was first introduced there wee a flurry of reports about palpitations but the outcome was: no a a significant problem unless you had an identified heart problem.
So, leads to the question: are you being treated by a doctor and what is his response to the situation? There are optiolns, other abortives, which you might review with your doc. Print the PDF file, below. IF you have not been checked for a heart disorder, that would surely be the first step to take before giving any coinsideration of changing to any other abortive. ![]() |
