Title: Psychedelics, did anyone use before their clusters Post by jjxf on May 28th, 2014 at 8:00am
Did anyone out there use psychedelics before their first cluster? I have a personal theory that perhaps over use of psychedelics could cause the onset of CH. Its a theory that I hope someone can disprove, thanks!

My answer to your question is no.
I don't know if your theory of the use of psychedelics to cause clusters can be proven or dis-proven. Psychedelics could maybe trigger an attack, such as alcohol does for a lot of us, but it is not the cause. My theory is cluster sufferers are born with a broken hypothalamus. It's your ancestor's fault. Welcome to the board jj. Please tell us more about yourself. |

Hi jjxf
My personal experience was that psychadelics were responsible for many a tension headache but never clusters. Anecdotal evidence on this site tends to them being a positive management tool with some people swearing by their effectiveness for controlling clusters. From what I gather the amounts used are a much lower amount than what you would use recreationally. I'm not sure if you would want to be tripping while in agony ! I did also ask the same question as you with regards to MDMA. The general consensus was no. Drugs are responsible for lots of things but generally not clusters. In saying that there are always exceptions. |

Interesting theory, are you a deadhead turned cluster head? "I will get by....i will survive" maybe Jerry was too.....

I have never used any kind of drugs (except prescription medicines), but I still get clusters.

There are certainly lots of people with CH who either haven't used psychedelics or haven't abused them. But that doesn't mean that psychedelics can cause CH or that they can't. |

THAT sums up one of the biggest problems with CH......as Bob Johnson puts it, coincidence is not necessarily causation! I'm afraid the sum of what we DON'T know still exceeds what we do! ;) Joe |

How is it possible for LSD to create a neurological disorder in a person then later in their life become a relief for the same disorder it caused in the first place? What other drug can cause that effect? Even if it was abused or over-used to begin with, do you have any examples to compare it with jj?

This however sounds just like the role of caffeine with migraine. It is a common migraine trigger and yet when a migraine kicks off it can also be good to abort or limit the migraine symptoms. Human biochemistry is truly wonderfully complex with many chemicals taking part in multiple different biochemical pathways. |

yes mike i see your point. it's like the old saying "too much of a good thing can be bad for you". in my personal experience tolerance to medical marijuana due to daily usage can completely reduce it's ability to relieve nausea or stop vomiting when i need it most. but, as jj may have been insinuating, can LSD over-use or abuse cause a physical change to a persons hypothalamus to give that person CH later in life? the period in my life when i tried LSD was the longest pain-free time i have ever had.
