Title: vapouring ?
Post by Hoppy on Jul 18th, 2014 at 7:47am
I've been using Ecigs (Vapouring) for about 12mths +
occasionally regular cigarettes. I was just wondering
if any one can give some advice on how to kick the
regular cigs. Only constructive comments please lol.

Cheers, Hoppy.

I did it using Champix and a caring GP. It's no magic bullet, I promise, but it worked for me.

Constructive comments and details available on request.

G'day Brian,
I have a friend who mentioned Champix to me, his wife
used it too stop the habit. I went too see my GP about
it, and he said theirs lots of bullshit you have to go
through too get it, forms and shit to monitor you so
I thought fuck it, its too hard, so I'm still puffing on
an off, maybe I'll try cold turkey as my wife reckons
is the only way to kick the habit.

Cheers, Hoppy.

That was certainly never my experience. My GP assured himself I was dinkum about quitting, gave me a quick physical and made a phone call, and I started the pills same day.

The information that comes with pack, along with what had already been explained, answered every question I could think of and was nothing but positive encouragement. Everyone wanted me to succeed, and I did.

Wasn't until a couple of years later I learned the lovely DennyM had seen how serious I was about quitting, and had got the guilts about smoking near me, that she started on the same regimen and successfully stopped, too.

Bestest bit is that what I save on cigarettes I can now spend on

Am I right, VB  [smiley=beer.gif]

I'll follow your lead, and have another chat with my GP.

Thanks Brian, Hoppy.

Hi Hoppy and Brian
I've had champix too. We can only get them here if we attend weekly meetings and lectures and pass the C02 breath test. Miss a meeting or fail the test and the champix is no more.
I hated the meetings - snotty nurses who looked down their nose at me. They were not encouraging at all, and after 20 minutes being spoken to like a child I wanted a cig more than ever. I told her that I was doing fine with the withdrawal of nicotine - only very mild cravings that I could cope with, but it was the HABIT I couldn't get past. When I've finished my work and sit down with a cup of tea - thats when I want a cig. A cup of tea and a cig just go together. Her answer was "don't sit down then". No one, especially in their 60's can be on their feet from 7am till bedtime. She was often rude in other ways too. Not always the same nurse, but always the same attitude.
So, champix cured me of the addiction, but not the habit and as a result I'm still puffin'.  [smiley=smokin.gif]

Hi Maz,
As I said to Brian, my doc said their were a lot of hoops
too jump through, and knowing me like he does, said, best
not to bother lol. It makes you wonder. Our government is spending a fortune of taxpayers money on Quit smoking
adds to free up the pressure on the health system, only
to treat you like a leper too Quit.

Cheers,  [smiley=beer.gif] [smiley=smokin.gif]

I think my main problem is that although I know I should stop smoking, for all the obvious reasons, I don't really want to. so I'm not motivated. You have to really want to, to succeed. I do keep trying to cut down so I guess thats better than nothing.

I've tried the e-cigs when they first came out but didn't really get on with them, but to be honest I don't think it was working properly. There's more variety now and a shop near us that sells solely e-cigs, so maybe I'll give it another try. One day.

I tried all kinds of "bridges" to help quit smoking many times, but the craving was always still there. And I always succumbed.

After sooooo many attempts/start/stops for sooo many years, I finally realized that for me: The only way was to just go old school "cold turkey" and just get it over with for good. I learned that whenever I used a nicotine product, or cheated and had a smoke now an then - it would reset the cravings to ground zero.

I smoked heavily for more decades than I want to admit, and it doesn't even cross my mind now, six years later. Not even a little.

I NEVER lecture folks about quitting - I remember how much I hated that! What works for one may not work for another, I am only sharing what finally worked for me - once I gave it an honest go.

The actual, hard core physical addiction is essentially gone in 72-84 hours depending upon your metabolism. After that, it truly is in your own hands to control your habits.

I will say that getting free of that particular demon, then getting control of "our Beast" a couple of years later........ makes life pretty wonderful for me :)

Hi Marc,
Thanq for your advice. I've tried cold turkey on a number
of occasions, but I seem to always get too day three, and
then I'm clawing my hair out, then out comes the ecig, and
still not taking the cravings away, its off too the shops for
that pack of fags. For me, its not the nicotine I'm addicted
too, its the chemicals that come with it, I think.

The chemical part of things intrigues me because, while I can cope with most aspects of quitting, the smell of coffee now drives me mad with desire for a cigarette.

Yet I was never a coffee drinker.

That's where Maz falls down only hers is a cup of tea. I'm
convinced its the chemicals in the fags that I'm addicted to.

You would be absolutely stunned if you knew how many chemicals they add to cigarettes.i suggest you google it , Although you should keep an open mind since you can't believe everything you read on the internet.

3 things worked for me. 1) Cold turkey. I could not have any in my house, nor be around others who smoked. 2) Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking book, and 3) this free quit smoking course: START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE

Been smoke free for 12 years now. Smoked for 12 before that. The struggle is 10% nicotine withdrawal, 90% mental (need to re-learn how to live smoke free).

Good luck to you! You can do it!

Biggest thing is that you really have to want it.......sounds dumb but if you are not 100% committed you will fail.
