Title: Can you recommend a neuro in S. Cal?
Post by Karekare on Jul 21st, 2014 at 11:37am
Can someone recommend a neurologist in the Orange County, CA or the Palm Desert area?  My dad was diagnosed with clusters, at 89 years old, and been suffering now for almost 5 months without relief. He's been to 2 neurologists - tried oxygen, prednisone, vicodin & verapamil as preventative and abortive meds, with very limited results.  I was diagnosed with clusters about 5 years ago (at 47 & female), so we certainly don't fit the typical CH sufferers! Cardiac problems eliminate his ability to take the aborts that i use (maxalt or imitrex injections).  I'd like to find a neuro who specializes in clusters and can get him some relief!! Thanks for any advise you can share!

To have a new case of Cluster at age 89 is so extraordinary that I think it essential to consider that this is not Cluster.

Suggest you print the file, "Cluster LIKE..." below, and discuss it with any doctor you see.
============
LOCATING HEADACHE SPECIALIST

1. Yellow Pages phone book: look for "Headache Clinics" in the M.D. section and look under "neurologist" where some docs will list speciality areas of practice.

2.  Call your hospital/medical center. They often have an office to assist in finding a physician. You may have to ask for the social worker/patient advocate.

4. START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE Look for "Physician Finder" search box. They will send a list of M.D.s for your state.I suggest using this source for several reasons: first, we have read several messages from people who, even seeing neurologists, are unhappy with the quality of care and ATTITUDES they have encountered; second, the clinical director of the Jefferson (Philadelphia) Headache Clinic said, in late 1999, that upwards of 40%+ of U.S. doctors have poor training in treating headache and/or hold attitudes about headache ("hysterical female disorder") which block them from sympathetic and effective work with the patient; third, it's necessary to find a doctor who has experience, skill, and a set of attitudes which give hope of success. This is the best method I know of to find such a physician.

5.         Since this is a new program, the initial listing is limited and so it should be checked each time you have an interest in locating a headache doctor.

Give me a day or two to find my California doctors list, as i'm sure I can add at least 6 to 10 additional names of highly recommended doctors provided to me from Ch.com Californians who suffer from CH's.

CA Medical Clinic for Medicine

Stanford, CA
Dr. Sheena Aurora

Stockton, CA
Dr. Kevin O'Dell

This list above is not inclusive of all the doctors in CA familiar with CH treatment.  This list above was provided to me via email from CH.com members who reside or have reside in CA that were treated by these doctors for CH's and were pleased with these doctors treatments and recommend these doctors to others who suffer CH treatment.

Hopefully, these additional names and CA locations will be of assistance to somebody here at CH.com.

If you reside in another USA state other than CA and are looking for a recommended CH doctor near you, please do not hesitate to PM me for a recently updated recommendation.
