Title: Blood test and cluster headaches
Post by salty on Jul 28th, 2014 at 3:00pm
My fiance suffers from cluster headaches. She is currently in a cluster and on medication to help prevent further occurrences. She had a full physical today where they took blood for tests. After returning home a very bad cluster started to the point where I raced home to be with her.

I am curious to know if taking blood was a trigger? Dehydration is a trigger and I would like to know your opinions to see if there is a correlation.

Thanks for any input in advance.

I've not seen anyone post before saying that taking blood triggered a CH. If it is just small amounts then I'd suspect it is unlikely.

I agree.

I really haven't seen much of a trigger pattern with my husband other than time of day (evening, and soon after falling asleep). I drive myself nuts speculating though.

In some cases they tell you not to eat or drink 12 hours before they take the blood.
This might be the trigger...

Some people really dislike blood draws. It may be possible to become so stressed at the thought of it, and during the procedure itself, to raise BP high enough that it could trigger an attack. Haven't heard of it happening though that doesn't mean it can't. lance
