Title: Restrictions in NZ
Post by Lynda Fox on Aug 13th, 2014 at 4:43am
Hi all,
Its been a while since I have been on here.  My husband has just started getting the headaches again after over a year without.  To see him in this pain again - well you all know what he is going through.  So after reading about the anti-inflammatory regimen I thought right - I will give it a go this time.  I went to the pharmacy and brought all the vitamins (wow that was a lot of money) - only to discover that NZ does not allow more than 1000IU for the vitamin D3 tablets.  So its going to be pretty expensive if he has to take 10 tablets per day when a bottle of 60 = $15.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I really would like him to try this.  Also he is taking the Sumapatrin injections which do help to get rid of the headaches (except for one last night where I thought he was about to go crazy with the pain as the injection didn't work).  Is there a limit to how many he should inject in a day?
My heart goes out to you all who suffer this terrible illness!
Cheers
Lynda

Hi Lynda and welcome back, although sorry that you've had to return since your husband is back in cycle.

NZ is like quite a few countries where 1000IU is the maximum dose of D3 that you can get in a single tablet purchased from a pharmacy. Doctors can proscribe higher doses via proscriptions. However it is possible to import them from overseas.

For the sumatriptan injections, he shouldn't be taking more than 2 in a 24 hour period, although it is possible that his doctor may limit this based on his personal medical history.

Has your husband got oxygen to abort his CHs? With oxygen he can use it as many times as he needs per day.

For info on how I got oxygen here in NZ, read up at - START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE.

Has he tried using energy drinks, Red Bull, Monster, etc. with both caffeine and taurine? These can help reduce the duration and intensity of a CH. They are often on special at Countdown / New World every couple of weeks or so when buying a 4 or 8 pack.

Anything NZ CH related, just ask.

Hi FoxNZ
I get mine from iherb.com in california. Even with shipping cost to the UK it's still miles cheaper than buying in the shops here. The D3 is available in 5000 iu and the other co factors are suitable doses too.

I got the 10,000 IU version of D3 from iherb.com - they shipped it to me in Canada. I've been ordering from iherb for a long time and have had good experiences with them.

Definitely have your husband try O2. It has helped my husband SO much. Make sure you read this entire link carefully:
