Get your parents to read all the posts on here about D3. They will soon see how effective it's been for most of us. AND WE SHOULD KNOW.

For the large doses you will need, get them from iherb.com in California. I'm in the UK and even with shipping costs it's a fraction of the price I would pay here. You often get a little freebie too which is always nice. :D

You are probably not turning chronic. My own cycles are quite weird and the only thing about CH that you can be certain about is the uncertainty. It changes and morphs all the time. My cycles are 6 - 8 attacks per day, lasting for 4 - 6 weeks, twice a year. But I also have short 1 - 2 day cycles in between, and a few odd "one offs". I still have plenty of pain free time though.

It's good you've got oxygen on the way, but it has to be used correctly. You need a flow rate of at least 15 litres per minute (more is better) and a non- rebreather mask. If you get either of those wrong it probably won't work, but get it right and it will change your life. Also have you tried Sumatriptan ( may be called imitrex or imigran depending on where in the world you live) It comes in tablet form - not much good, nasal spray - a little better, and auto injections which are absolutely fantastic and will abort a big one in a few minutes. They are easy to carry and easy to use.I take them with me when I'm out and can't get to the oxygen. I never leave home without them. If you have not tried them already I would ask your doctor.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted.
Maz.

Given your extremely young age at onse, I'd like to have a confirmed diagnosis from a headache specialist--and this, mostly especially, before you start any new treatment program.

There are a number of cluster-like disorders which mimic Cluster but are not headache disorders. With such an early onset and so few yearly attacks, this is a rather abnormal picture.

At least talk to you doc about a consult with a headache specialist.

LOCATING HEADACHE SPECIALIST

1. Yellow Pages phone book: look for "Headache Clinics" in the M.D. section and look under "neurologist" where some docs will list speciality areas of practice.

2.  Call your hospital/medical center. They often have an office to assist in finding a physician. You may have to ask for the social worker/patient advocate.

3. START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE; On-line screen to find a physician.

4. START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE Look for "Physician Finder" search box. They will send a list of M.D.s for your state.I suggest using this source for several reasons: first, we have read several messages from people who, even seeing neurologists, are unhappy with the quality of care and ATTITUDES they have encountered; second, the clinical director of the Jefferson (Philadelphia) Headache Clinic said, in late 1999, that upwards of 40%+ of U.S. doctors have poor training in treating headache and/or hold attitudes about headache ("hysterical female disorder") which block them from sympathetic and effective work with the patient; third, it's necessary to find a doctor who has experience, skill, and a set of attitudes which give hope of success. This is the best method I know of to find such a physician.

5. START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE NEW certification program for "Headache Medicine" by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties, an independent, non-profit, professional medical organization.
Since this is a new program, the initial listing is limited and so it should be checked each time you have an interest in locating a headache doctor.

Cocktail of vicodin and exederin as an abortive.

Using pain killers as abortives is not an effective means of aborting CH, resulting in rebound headaches, plus with vicodin issues around addition. Coupled with your other post where you say that you are on a combination including verapamil and propranolol this strongly suggests that you are not working with a headache specialist who is skilled and experienced with CH.
