Title: Doctor in SF Bay Area? (East Bay)
Post by XOMR on Jan 15th, 2015 at 12:19am
Hello,
It's that time of year again, shadows at work today - went home and looked back at my journals from the last couple of years and looks like the beast is starting to come out hibernation once more right on time.

I moved to California this summer and am living in the Bay Area. I couldn't find the doctor's list (was it on the OUCH website?) and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good doctor in Oakland, CA or the East Bay. I also don't mind going into San Francisco though I'd rather not have to introduce the trek which may add more time away from work.

Going to start D3. Here's to happy and healthy New Year to you all.

LOCATING HEADACHE SPECIALIST

1. Yellow Pages phone book: look for "Headache Clinics" in the M.D. section and look under "neurologist" where some docs will list speciality areas of practice.

2.  Call your hospital/medical center. They often have an office to assist in finding a physician. You may have to ask for the social worker/patient advocate.

3. START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE; On-line screen to find a physician.

4. START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE Look for "Physician Finder" search box. They will send a list of M.D.s for your state.I suggest using this source for several reasons: first, we have read several messages from people who, even seeing neurologists, are unhappy with the quality of care and ATTITUDES they have encountered; second, the clinical director of the Jefferson (Philadelphia) Headache Clinic said, in late 1999, that upwards of 40%+ of U.S. doctors have poor training in treating headache and/or hold attitudes about headache ("hysterical female disorder") which block them from sympathetic and effective work with the patient; third, it's necessary to find a doctor who has experience, skill, and a set of attitudes which give hope of success. This is the best method I know of to find such a physician.

5. START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE NEW certification program for "Headache Medicine" by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties, an independent, non-profit, professional medical organization.
Since this is a new program, the initial listing is limited and so it should be checked each time you have an interest in locating a headache doctor.

Hi XOMR,

I am away from my list of recommended doctors in Northern California and am confident there are several qualified doctors in the Bay Area on my list that are very familiar with Cluster Headache (CH) treatment.

I will make it a priority when I get home this evening to post a list of doctors for you that are all recommended from other CH sufferers who reside near you.

Hi XOMR,
Sorry to read you are suffering and in pain without the professional help of a doctor who truly knows how to effectively treat Cluster Headache sufferers.

You asked for a referral to a good doctor in the San Francisco/Oakland/East Bay, CA area.  It just so happens that a little over one year ago, I compiled the most comprehensive list of all doctors familiar with Cluster Headaches throughout the USA and Canada.

Lidia Brown next to El Camino Hospital in Mt. View is my neurologist.  She's done a pretty good job of helping me out with my CH.  Just saw her Tuesday for my current visit from the beast.
