Ok I am a 20 year sufferer of cluster headaches and last cycle in May 2014 I took Prednisone towards the middle to end of cycle and after 7 days exactly (2 pills per day) the cycle ended.

Now a new cycle is back and I am starting prednisone today and I am really hoping it works again. Does anyone have success with this?

Yes, lots of us have used prednisone with success. It is usually used only for a short period, about a week. Verapamil, lithium, Topamax or some other med is started at the same time as the prednisone and continued after the prednisone is stopped.

To be clear: Pred is used for abou 10-days to quickly stop attacks BUT at the same time, we start using a long acting preventive, such as Verapamil, to prevent future attacks.

Using Pred as the only abortive is not good becasuse of its side effects. But folks can use Verapamil for years with few side effects.

curious is one of the side effects, less or painful urination??? little nervous today but have only taken 3 doses so far.

The list of side effects are possibilities, not a statement of what will occur.

I am taking 40 MG of prednisone a day (2 pills of 20 MG) for 7 days and thats it. No refillls. Hoping cycle will be gone in the 7 days.

Like others have said, its only used for 7-10 days until a
preventative kicks in like Verapamil.

For CH we normally use what is called a taper dose that starts high for a few days, then tapers off to nothing over about a week. This is done normally as you start a longer term preventive, like verapamil, to provide a short term preventive whilst the other one builds up.
