Title: Importance of strictly following the D3 regimen Post by jul059 on Jan 28th, 2015 at 6:50pm
I started the D3 regimen yesterday.
On second thought, perhaps I bought the supplements too fast. I could not find the exact formulations recommended by Batch (Mature Multi, 400 mg magnesium, super K complex, etc.) so I went with this : - 10 000 IU D3 - Natural Factors Vitamin K2 (2 tablets = 200 mcg MK-7) - Cod liver oil (2500 IU vitamin A) Calcium and Magnesium comes from a combination of the following : - Jamieson 250 mg Magnesium oxide, gluconate, lactate - Jamieson "Calcium Magnesium + Zinc" (333 mg calcium, 167 mg magnesium, 17 mg zinc) - 75 mg calcium bisglycinate - 75 mg magnesium bisglycinate for a total of 492 magnesium and 408 calcium. Omega-3 and B50 are ok. Is vitamin K2 ok if I take only MK-7? Is it ok if I don't have Boron supplement? I regularly eat nuts and dried fruits, which contain Boron. Is it too much calcium? I bought all this in a hurry, but if it all works, I want to optimize my supplements so it costs less and I have less pills to take. |

Hey Jul059,
Thanks for the headzup you're starting the anti-inflammatory regimen... You've done a fantastic job of meeting requirements for the supplements and doses... so you're off to a good start with this regimen. A handful of almonds, hazel nuts, dates or a teaspoon of honey a day will give you all the boron you need... Now that you've a day of this regimen under your belt, be sure to start the accelerated vitamin D3 loading schedule. You'll need 600,000 IU of vitamin D3 during this loading... You can take this much vitamin D3 in a single oral dose, over a 4 day period or over 28 days. The vitamin D3 loading schedule that's been working for the last year for most CH'ers starting this regimen involves the following: Two weeks dosing at 20,000 IU/day vitamin D3 plus two 50,000 IU doses of vitamin D3 taken one each a week on top of the daily 20,000 IU. For the second two weeks, take 15,000 IU/day vitamin D3. Be sure to take all the cofactors each day. At the end of the 4-week loading schedule, drop your vitamin D3 intake to a maintenance dose of 10,000 IU/day and see your PCP or neurologist for the 25(OH)D lab test. Magnesium is the most important cofactor as vitamin D3 at these doses consumes magnesium rapidly. If you don't get enough magnesium, hand, foot and leg cramps will be an obvious signal... A small number of CH'ers experience heart palpitations if they don't get enough magnesium... Taking as much as 500 to 750 mg/day magnesium will make sure there's no calcium-magnesium imbalance. The above vitamin D3 loading schedule should elevate your serum 25(OH)D by 60 ng/mL... If your serum concentration of 25(OH)D was 25 ng/mL before starting this regimen... your lab test after 30 days should come back between 80 and 85 ng/mL. Take care and please keep us posted... V/R, Batch |

Is the loading schedule necessary? I am not in cycle right now, so I'm in no hurry. Also, high doses (above 1000 IU) of vitamin D3 can only be had with a prescription in Quebec, Canada, and my prescription is for only 10000 IU a day. I would need to take an additional 10x1000 IU a day... Which would be quite expensive!
I guess it will just take longer before my serum concentration comes back up? For the record, I was tested at 25 nmol/ml (10 ng/ml). Some more questions. Is it a problem if I take only vitamin K2 MK-7, and not K2 MK-4? Also, with this much vitamin D3, is it possible to have too much of something (calcium?)? Or too little (you already mentioned magnesium)? Thanks a lot! |
