I started out with cluster headaches 10 yrs ago .. don't know why I was chosen .. no family history of headaches . Started out every November the cycle would begin and last about 8 wks. I suffered greatly with no help from meds or support from my doctors because they simply did not want to invest the time in learning about these horrendous headaches people suffer. 
Things have changed and since June of 2014 I have had cycle after cycle .. I insisted on trying Prednisone since one neurologist was ok with this and it seemed to help but found I had to keep increasing to keep the h/a's from breaking through. I would try to wean from 30 mgs to 20 or 15 and it wouldn't work.  At present I am at 25 mgs per day .. split up throughout the day. I do know that not much in medical research can help any of us with this disorder and everything written is just a "maybe, could be, possibly, etc" so I experiment myself and hope I hit on something that might just work for me. 
I do know a trigger for me is not enough sleep which upsets my sleep pattern. This is when most of my h/a's break through during the night when I enter the REM pattern.. So now I will start on 20 mgs of Prednisone and 5 mgs of Melatonin which I did last night and slept like a baby.  I need to get off the Prednisone since I am aware of the dangerous side effects of long term use, not to mention that I look like the Goodyear blimp with unusual fat deposits I've never had before!! 
I don't know why some of us have been cursed with these debilitating headaches .. there have been times when I just wanted to end it all .. but being t he coward I am that would never happen.  Good luck to all.  Haven't been here in a while but will make it my daily stop from now on...

Fundamental problem is that you have not been working with a skilled doc. Endless use of Ped. is a sure sign of a doc without knowledge. So,

LOCATING HEADACHE SPECIALIST

1. Yellow Pages phone book: look for "Headache Clinics" in the M.D. section and look under "neurologist" where some docs will list speciality areas of practice.

2.  Call your hospital/medical center. They often have an office to assist in finding a physician. You may have to ask for the social worker/patient advocate.

They will send a list of M.D.s for your state.I suggest using this source for several reasons: first, we have read several messages from people who, even seeing neurologists, are unhappy with the quality of care and ATTITUDES they have encountered; second, the clinical director of the Jefferson (Philadelphia) Headache Clinic said, in late 1999, that upwards of 40%+ of U.S. doctors have poor training in treating headache and/or hold attitudes about headache ("hysterical female disorder") which block them from sympathetic and effective work with the patient; third, it's necessary to find a doctor who has experience, skill, and a set of attitudes which give hope of success. This is the best method I know of to find such a physician.

5. Try giving the Prednisone a miss at night, and up the
Melatonin to 10-15mg, and see how you go. Also have
a look at the vitamin D remedy, you can find all the
