Hah! I seem to recall way back, when I thought that you were old because you turned 50! I'm going to be 62 this year, so you must be like 106? Darn, when did "we" become "them" anyway? I need to get up to your neck of the woods on my next trip Left. Still haven't seen the Palace in the Sierra. Hoping you, Sarah and the girls are all doing well. |

Youngest daughter, Emily, just gave us our first grandson. His name is Curtis Drummer Pahlow-Smith. Dave Greenly ought to appreciate that!
You are welcome at the new house anytime. We have 2 spare bedrooms and would love to see you. |

Bob, I think that's a really neat name and Dave should be honored..
And Den, Drummer's still ALIVE and living on FB. Still Drummer but older.. And Marc - I'm still wondering when we got this damn old.. (I hit 71 this year - seems like only yesterday...). :-* :-* |

Curtis got the Drummer moniker because his Dad and Grandpa are both drummers.
I got my Medicare card in the mail last week! Now that will make you feel old! |

Barbara, as to how we got this old, I tell my wife when she asks that we did it one day at a time, but I believe many of them were very short days!
Life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer you get to the end, the faster it goes. (I don't remember who I stole that from, but I gave credit the first time.) Jerry |

But it beats the crap out an individual policy since your buddy Obama scrapped our old insurance system...... |
Title: Re: the archives Post by Bob P on Jul 23rd, 2015 at 6:56am
The State (Public Emp Retirement Sys) has always paid for my medical insurance but Obama (the egotistical buffoon) did double my annual out of pocket max from $3k to over $6k!.

Yeah, well look into what it costs for two people who are married and self employed together today..........
Yep, $6.5K deductible each, with a stop loss of $12.5K each - for the ripping low cost of $922 per month. This is insanely high compared to our cost "pre-Obama." Health insurance used to be like car insurance - I didn't want to spend it, but I could afford it. But, we need to send a billion dollars to Iran and North Korea to help them out...... so I guess I need to skip some meals to do my part. Marc |

And now we have to furnish electricity to Africa.. wish the govt would pay MY electric bill!!! :P
But I do LOVE my medicare. I can now AFFORD to get sick and go to the doctor - don't do it much, but I CAN now - Between that and my AARP supplement I pay about $350 a month and it don't cost me nothing to get sick or go to the doc. But my kids are up the creek without the paddle on theirs. Everything has to be PRE approved and nothing much is covered. Sound familiar??? I'd say we need some repeals (and maybe a NEW CONGRESS) yesterday! But my BP stays up watching what we're giving away to other countries.. :-* |

OK..I'll join the hijack parade...those are some of the best threads..."like a bawx of chock-lits...ya never know what yur gonna get"
Friday...THIS fricken friday..... is my LAST chemo after 2 1/2 yrs...they got worse as we went along .....so I am one happy knucklehead! I've reflected over the years re the health insurance(s) I've had. I expect the angst of incompetent or malevolent "service" from these vipers has taken a few yrs off old jonboy...yet...by the time we're done with this round.... the overall cost for the past 6 yrs will approach $500,000...YEAH...that's half a million dollars folks... and it was only chemo, CAT/PET scans, bloodwork, and appts! Without my employer provided insurance I’m not sure where I’d be.....I can see why poor people (I’m not) die without insurance. At that, it cost me about $10,000/yr premium+out of pocket limit while on COBRA. Sounds like a lot…but it paid for itself with one $35,000 chemo…and I had 6 of those. Frankly, I have irreconcilably mixed feelings re the Affordable Care Act…Obamacare…whatever. For some it is a disaster…for some a godsend. In my case, due to disability, I had the right to extend my employers coverage via COBRA…so I didn’t have to venture into the healthcare market. I looked a few times but it was a daunting task to figure which was the best option…and there were hundred’s of thousands of dollars at stake. I never had the courage to dance with a devil I did not know. What I do know….. for absolute certain fact….. is that I HAD the option because the new law says insurance companies could not deny me due to “preexisting condition”. And I don’t think for a second I wouldn’t have been denied under previous law. They used to be able to cherry-pick…and who could blame a for- profit business using statistics to run their business more efficiently. Tis a whole ‘nother argument whether healthcare should be that “kind” of business (yikes, maybe I’m a socialist ;)). I WILL be in Medicare soon…and that IS socialized medicine…nez pas? Anyway, to wrap up this ramble…. I am attempting no political statement here….. or at least a cogent one…just my experiences. And I am reminded of Churchill’s statement re Democracy: ‘Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.’ when I think about the ACA. It sure needs help… but I haven’t seen anything close yet………………… Ah well, I’m a little nervous right now…no intent to offend...some folks eat...I write ::) Best Jonboy |
