It boggles the mind!  Operating a business to make a profit.  Who would ever have thought!

Designer drugs for "designer" diseases..

And the sad part is most of us would "feel" a lot better and be healthier if we'd just get off all these drugs and get on vitamins and minerals and -- oh well.. it ain't gonna happen so ..

One of my favorite pass-times (and it don't take much to entertain me) is listening to the "side effects" on the drug commercials.. especially the headache ones.. "Can cause headaches or frequency of headaches." Duh?

Oh well, capitalism is just wonderful ain't it..  :-*

Buisnesses of course have to be profitable, that's a given !
BUT,   the moral here is,   take into consideration now when large drug companies go out of there way to ridicule a natural alternative, write and publish untruths ( until their bought to task) to ensure their bottom line continues to grow.
Drugs are essential in our life today unquestionably
But a comparison could be made to oil companies, who for years have been buying up patients for alternative fuel options to protect their market.
For years we blindly accepted the word of these conglomerates, as we thought there only aim was to heal, but foolishly we realise that in any multi billion dollar industry,  protection of profits out ways all else.
Its a fine line that these companies walk and the more and more that is uncovered makes me wary. Batch put up the classic one a while back, A supposed factual study condemning fish oil as a prostate cancer risk, with even a placebo study conducted, Well we all know now it was funded by a drug company that was the worlds leading cholesterol manufacturer, they got their study published because they have the money to do so, 3 months later, their so called study was shot to pieces and their true motives revealed,  Fish oil supplements were eating into their sales ! they cared not that fish oil was successfully treating and reducing cholesterol, they went to the extent of trying to use scare tactics, LIED to try and stop its use.
Yep, good on them for making a profit !
lets continue to take all there drugs and not look for natural equivilants,   after all, there all big multi nationals and they always tell the truth !

just my opinion
         ;)

Evil Drug Companies.

Always use the preface. No other industry deserves it more.

Hiya Sir Charles...ALWAYS good to hear from YOU!

Gonna have to disagree justa wee bit....health "insurance" companies are THE devil's spawn...they keep  drones in their basements.... whose ONLY intent is screwing their own "customers". There be a SPECIAL place in hell for those running companies who sell a product, a hope, a service, and supposed life saving......  for which they collect BILLIONS.... yet have NO intent of providing. Not even street drug dealers can be accused of same....

And please folks....spare me from Obamacare references...that be an irrelevant distraction from an industry who can only ASPIRE to the slimey underside of pond scum status.....and fail...

Some day I'll tell ya what I really think.............................for now, suffice to say....If I wasn't a clusterhead AND a ch.com family member.... I would never have had the courage, strength, knowledge and damned obstinance to fight these fubar leeches...I woulda been dead................

Some healthy commentary... Well done...  I'm a constitutional conservative who believes in fair market practices...  No profit... no business...  It's that simple.

Where I take issue with Big Pharma is also simple... They don't use fair market practices...  They buy legislation from congress that ensure monster profits.  The most lucrative business on K street is in the hands of Big Pharma lobbyists.

ROIs on various lobbying efforts range from a whopping 5,900% (oil subsidies) to a gargantuan 77,500% (pharmaceuticals).

So, the question is why do our lawmakers - financed by Big Pharma lobbyists – want to regulate vitamin and natural supplements, yet continue to approve toxic drugs and food chemicals?

Good question to ask your Senators and Congressman...

I could go on but I'll leave you with my leading candidate for the biggest lie ever perpetrated by big pharma with the help of several medical societies.

If you want to keep your heart ticking and arteries clear of plaque...  Avoid sugar, margarine and grain oils...  fresh fruit is ok... So is butter, bacon fat, lard, olive oil, avocado oil and my favorite, coconut oil...  eat lots of greens...  then add CoQ10 along with some vitamin C to the anti-inflammatory regimen...

High blood pressure is always a problem as we get older...  There are many natural ways of lowering BP...  The anti-inflammatory regimen is a good start... Do your own research.

Finally...  If reading all the above has your blood boiling...

Another of my beefs is with the alternative medicine business. People die trading traditional medicine for crackpot treatments and sugar pills that are not FDA regulated. They don't have to be. Nice.

Of course I'm old enough that I tend to know what to expect from our current fee for service MDs. One of my favorites was a Neurosurgeon that insisted that I have exploratory brain surgery because of my cluster headaches. I knew better and I knew what to expect from my CH episodes. Fortunately, it's been decades since my last real attack. If I hadn't been seeing these characters for years because of my epilepsy, I might have fallen for it. The one I did not need is for someone to dig around in what's left of my brain to confirm what I and he ready knew.

I also once made a half-hearted joke by asking an other doctor what possibly would make one choose to become a Proctologist. There are many other choices. This MD made a big deal that he understood but doctors can make a lot money by doing so. I gave him a little talk explaining that the last thing his patients want to hear is just how much cash doctors rake in by using Medicare and insurance companies as cash cows. I wasn't seeing him about my portfolio.
