Title: Record number
Post by aceserve on Oct 18th, 2015 at 1:46am
It is 7:30 am and I am having a cluster headache. This is like my fifth since going to bed last night. I don't think I have ever had more than two or at most three in a 24-hour period before. I have been injecting myself with mini-doses of Sumatriptan to make the meds last; enough to wipe out the CH each time. I have several of this little vials. But every time the CH got wiped out and I fell back to sleep, a couple of hours later the monster woke me up again. I suspect sleep might be a trigger. I took a nap yesterday afternoon and a half hour after waking up, a CH hit me. I am wondering what's going on and starting to despair. I am on vacation and don't have O2. I will get it when I get back home on Wednesday. Not sure 02 tank is allowed on a plane. I was in agony from a couple of those CHs last night. Thoughts or suggestions are welcome, compadres. The current CH is dissipating now from the last shot I took.

Because of the half-life of Sumatriptan in a full shot will give you a longer pain free period than giving yourself mini shots.

Sleep is definately a trigger for most, and I know what you are going through. I have had several nights when I've had to use my 02 every half hour all night long - 7 or 8 times. Three or four is quite normal for me when in cycle.

You could try knocking back a redbull - really fast, that sometimes helps. It's not going to help you get any sleep of course, but you are going to be awake, in pain, so may as well be awake without pain. It doesn't work for everyone but worth a shot, especially in the daytime.

You will not be allowed to take 02 on a plane.

It's not much help but I'm think flights can put me in a mini cycle.

Yes, I agree. Flying is a huge trigger for me too - always about 20 - 30 minutes before landing when the plane is just starting a slow descent.

Reducing the dose of an abortive may suppress the attack for a time but not fully stop it.

You don't mention whether you are using a med to prevent attacks.

Thank you, Bob. I didn't know about preventative meds. I will talk to my doctor next week about Verapamil.

Thank you Hoppy. If the monster returns tonight I will give myself a bigger dose.

Thank you, Maz. I went out and got Red Bull for tonight. 250 ml cans. Not sure if they're big enough. Chug, chug! I've been CH free all day and it is a natural high of relief compared to the agonies of last night and early this morning.

Thank you MDR. I will look. Hopefully it is all over the counter.

It is all over the counter stuff but could be expensive as may only come in small dose where you live - so you would have to buy it by the ton. However, all the large doses we need are available from iherb.com. Fast delivery and reasonable shipping costs.

Thanks Maz. I found Batch's recipe and will start looking for these components tomorrow at the local chemist, primarily the D3. I chide myself for not having done this earlier.

Hey Aceserve,

Don't chide yourself. We all went through years of suffering before we got help.

What's that legend you put on the bottom of your posts...something about..."good times are comin".?

By the way, I too get all my D3 stuff from Iherb, even though I live in Ireland and as Maz Says, delivery is cheap and fast.

Mind yourself,

Peter.

The year I found myself with 4-5 CH a night (some of which may have been rebound from O2), I was put on verapamil and I've never looked back.

I actually went 28 years without a diagnosis, and then I relied on abortives. Now it's verapamil and an oxygen tank for the ones that happen when I'm not on verapamil.

Try Frova, a much longer half-life...I think it's about 24 hours. AS for as triptans go, it's pretty damn good.
