Title: Melatonin question Post by jackieg on Dec 12th, 2015 at 7:58am
Since 75% of my hits come after falling asleep, I am considering melatonin. Does anyone know if this will increase my day hits and make things more unpredictable? Being hit at 12 am, 3, and 6?

Melatonin as never been hot topic here, which likely tells you something.
Medical literature is thin and I've never seen anything which prompted me save the material. Its chief attraction is that it's cheap. Try and see..... |

I take 10mg Melatonin almost every night and while I sleep much better than I used to, I don't get any more hits as a result.

Melatonin has been talked about a lot over the years, and yes, it has a good record in stopping those night attacks, and no, it doesn't increase daily attacks. You need to take 5-15mg before going to bed, it can take up to a couple of weeks before it kicks in.

Melatonin is being studied for many health conditions. I'm not sure if the O.U.C.H. newsletters have been saved online by anyone, so I have attached an overview article from one of the issues.

Hi jackieg,
I've been experimenting with melatonin a lot. The short answer is: it would probably have no effect over your daily hit, although you can never truly know in advance when it comes to CH. I found melatonin to have a good effect over my night attacks, but in large doses it does make it harder to get up in the morning. After many experiments I found out a combination that stopped my night hit altogether: 3-5mg melatonin + 25 mg oral Imitrex + 10-25mg amitriptyline (note that these really are small doses). In my last two cycles I woke up with attacks only once in every 8-10 nights instead of 1-3 every night. |
