Has anyone tried or know of someone who may have tried this procedure?  I was reading an article on the Michigan Headache and Neurologic Center website about it.  It was tried years ago and is now being thought of as something that may be on the return.

I have had it done twice. Once with the cotton swabs and again with the catheter. Both made the headaches worse for 10 days...

Whith all due respect to Mr cdog's response , I believe that cdog is referencing a different procedure than the one you are referring to. Perhaps a intranasual shot or cotton swab ( which as he said is useless for ch and I agree having had it done as well) . an SPG  block is not done intranasal in the sense that you are referring to. It is an outpatient procedure that requires several hours at a pain clinic including time in the recovery room.it is done in an OR with  a six person staff in attendance. You are given an IV with pain medication and they wrap your head in plastic and mark the injection site on the side of your head. They then used a long needle to inject a local anesthetic and a steroid into the side of your head and behind your eyes where  the SPG is located. The Surgeon uses an x-ray to guide the needle to the SPG so that he can inject it in the right location. I had it done 7 times with one three-week success.

So I hope I'm interpreting what you are saying correctly. You don't think it is something that is viable?  It doesn't sound like I would give this a go, but it was something that interested me as information.

cdog, I was unaware of the different forms of SPG blocks thanks for the link. the lateral block was not pleasant , but neither is CCH.
Michael , the SPG blocks were a tough road for me , I was grasping at straws it was only as a last resort that my HA specialist referred me to pain management. I had tried every possible medicine and treatment I could find . one of the SPG blocks nearly damaged my eye, the steroid was injected into my eye socket and my eye swelled up and turned black. I was seeing double for weeks. luckily I recovered fully. the surgeon managed to find a better spot near the SPG on the next block and I was free from attacks for three weeks after the block . I could actually lay down and sleep without being woken up with an attack. I thought they were never coming back , but they did.
the benefit of the SPG blocks was that the fact that at least one of them was effective for a while and my HA specialist referred me to the ATI neurostimulator trial. he was right in doing so. now I get 8 HA's a month instead of 8 HA's a day. I would have never volunteered for the trial if It wasn't for that one block that actually worked for me.
the operation was easy but the months of increased HA's after it was very difficult until they gave me my remote.
I wish you the best of luck with busting or D3 before you try Blocks or the stimulator. I recommend them as a last resort only.
