Title: Medical tank vs welders tank - refill
Post by Fady on Mar 31st, 2016 at 1:26pm
Hi everyone, this is my first post, I've had cluster headaches for over 10 years  and I'm finally trying to get oxygen on my own.. As Far as getting it refilled at a welding supply company does it matter what kind of tank it is?  Is the tanks with the green tops medical ? I have no clue . Please help.

The reason I'm asking is I have a chance to buy a oxygen tank for a good price .. But wasn't sure if a tanks physical appearance matters if I took it in to a welders company to get it refilled

I would lease a tank from the local weld supplier, then when it needs anything it's on their dime.

What if you can buy a tank for $50 or $70 .. Would you still lease a tank ?

Fady,

Buying a tank is sometimes difficult.  They are regulated and need to be inspected regularly by someone certified to certify the tank.  If it is not certified and stamped, the welding supply place WILL NOT fill them.  Just something to look at before purchasing. Leasing from a welding supply shop is the better choice in my opinion.

Sounds like you are ruling out medical o2. If that assumption is correct you may want to consider the likelihood you are unfortunately doomed for life with this evil curse, and if your $ is available to INVEST thinking long term, consider a tank purchase.

I bought a welders tank and refill welders o2 as needed, never a hassle except transport.

However if you have medical insurance and are willing to tolerate the red tape bureaucratic bs that goes along with it, go medical.

PF Wishes ;)
