Title: Cluster headaches after ruptured brain aneurysm Post by Jellybean24 on Nov 21st, 2016 at 2:52pm
I had a ruptured Basilar artery aneurysm 7/2015. Since then I have suffered from chronic cluster headaches as my neurologist diagnosed me with. Half the time I wish I didn't survive because I've never had such horrific headaches as I do now. Nothing I have taken seems to help and I'm not a candidate for Imitrex because since the rupture I have extremely high blood pressure. So sick of being in pain and no one can help me.

Welcome to the site. Sorry you are suffering and needed to search for help.
On the left side of your screen is a yellow button 'cluster quiz'. Have you taken the quiz? I ask this only because I have never heard of cluster headaches being triggered by a ruptured artery. But then, there's lots of things cluster I've never heard of. High blood pressure? There is a med called verapamil that many of us take for clusters. It is a blood pressure med. Ask your neuro about. Please keep in touch here. We care. |

Hi and welcome
Oxygen is great as a CH abortive. Just make sure you've a high flow rate (15lpm and higher is better) plus a non-rebreather mask. Often oxygen providers don't know what they are doing and go for low flow rates and nasal cannula which are pretty much useless. Are you using anything as a CH preventive? Something like verapamil (which should also help with the blood pressure), lithium or topomax? Have you read about how a lot of us are using vitamin D3 very effectively too as a preventive? Keep reading and ask any questions you have. |

Given your complex history, I regard any suggestions on treating your Cluster as irrsponsible and outside our range of expeience/kowledge.
I assume this problem is outside the range of your sugeon's taining/experience. But you should talk with him about a referral to a headache specialist. The two of them should work out an acceptable treament. Thee are many disorders which mimic Cluster but are not headache disorders. Your doc has to sort out this question. |
