Title: verap and foot cramps anyone?
Post by mezza on Apr 29th, 2008 at 8:32pm
Has anyone noticed leg or foot cramps when taking verap?  By all means not complaining here- an occasional cramp in my foot is preferable to the alternative :)  Just curious about this

About an hour or so after taking my verap ( i take 660mg a day  - 240 in am, 240 at 5pm and 180 at bedtime)  I get what feels like a charlie horse in foot- have to stretch it out etc

Anyone experience the same?

thanks

Kelly

Hi Kelly,

Yup. Leg cramps. I take 480-720 mg  depending on cycle
timing. Like you, it's small price to pay, if even connected.

Regards

Jon

MAYBE IT IS FROM THE VERAP NOW THAT YOU SAY IT.  I GET THEM PRETTY GOOD.  NOT ALL THE TIME BUT IN SPURTS I'LL GET THEM QUITE OFTEN

My last cycle I was taking 480mg Verapamil daily and got some foot and leg cramps (I always blamed it on my biking) but also swelling in the calf and ankle area's. Kinda doughy feeling when you push on it with your finger.

Other's should be along soon. Hope this helps you in some way.

  Barry :)

ah well the sacrifices we make!! :)

Well Kelly, speaking for myself I know high heels are NOT causing my foot cramps. :o
I was also on Prednisone at the start of my cycles to abort them, which they did, but made my joints ache and made me feel blah! :P

Now my #1 defense is o2. No side effects, no Cluster hangover, stops the pain! ;)

Oh no, it would never be your high heels.  We must accept that on occasion we MUST wear shoes that are so gorgeous they look like artwork.  And then we must accept that our meds cause the cramps in our feet.  It would never be the shoes.

Hey I also get that weird doughy feeling swelling just above my ankles.  Never thought of it being the Verapamil.  Just thought I was getting strange old people lumps!  Thank Goodness I know better now!

Interesting to read about this; cramps on my left leg have been there pretty much as long as I've eaten Verpamil - never made a connection though. I knew they had something to do with CH since it's always the left side - same side as the CH pain - but didn't know how. When I have my cycle my blood circulation is also not so good in my legs, don't know which med is causing it, might be Verpamil as well.

for me its charlie horses in my foot on my cluster side- weird stuff , but verpamil is definitely worth it for me -  i have very little to no pain ( just periodic shadows)

After reading this thread again I think back and remember that it was only one ankle and calf that had the swelling and doughy feeling, my right side, the same side as my CH's.

Just something I noticed, but probably no connection. [smiley=huh.gif]

I have been on 720 mg of Verapamil daily for about a year now.  I am chronic and still have 20-30 CH's a month. I play soccer twice a week and since starting the Verapamil, I have noticed that an imitrex injection will amplify any muscle sprain/strain that I have at the time.  Usually lasts for about an hour and then goes back to normal.  Best of luck.

I am 49 years young and while on Verapamil I needed fibre in my diet, to keep things moving so to speak.

I chose "fibre 1 Honey Clusters cereal". It is high in fibre (56%) and found that I need it on a daily base, both in and out of cycle.

It tastes pretty good and I only take a small amount every morning to make me feel good. It really works well for me!
