He is paralyzed and has been a wheelchair for 9 years or so.  He now has a stage IV pressure ulcer, which is the worst one that you can have, which means it is down to the bone.  Also, this is what Chrisopher Reeve essentially died from.  So, my sister is frantic and very scared.  Luckily, she is a nurse.  They are considering putting him in the hospital this afternoon because of this.  I've been researching it over the last hour and only 62% of stage IV ulcers heal and only 52% heal within a year.  Please pray for him, my sister and their 2 year old daughter!  This is very scary, because if it gets infected that is the worst that could happen!

I'm adding him and your family to my prayers!  Have they tried a vaccuum on the wound yet?  Or hyperbarics?

Please keep us updated - and I certainly hope that they are able to heal it for him!  Having good care and determination to do all the right things to work to heal it is really such a huge part of the battle!  Sounds like he's got that going for him, at least!

They're not putting him in the hospital for the time being.  I believe that they are going to be using a vac (my mom didn't know, but I assumed), but they have to run a bunch of tests on him first.  He had to go to the hospital today to get a CBC, and I haven't heard the results yet, but I'm hoping all will go right!  My sister, in the meantime, has been worried sick and is not taking care of herself....and she's a nurse, she can't afford to be sleep-deprived and sick!  

I will let you all know once I have more info, but for right now everything is ok, it's not infected, which is very good news!

You got it, Kim. Scott and his family are in our prayers.

The CBC came back normal, which is good!  He is having an MRI on Monday to see if he has infection in the bone, which I'm assuming he won't and then they'll put him on the wound vac...I think.  He also has an appt with a cosmetic surgeon next week as well.  So, for right now he's in his wheelchair just a few hours out of the day and he's laying on his side on the couch for pretty much the rest of the day.  He's not really used to being home so much, he works as an engineer for Motorola, so he's gonna have to be off work for a while.  He's also drinking high protein drinks, which aid in the healing of wounds.  So, right now they're doing everything possible to get this wound healed quickly.  I just pray that he doesn't get an infection!!!!
