Title: Are these typical daily symptoms?
Post by TRG on Jun 11th, 2008 at 12:38pm
My husband is doing much better with his ch's since starting oxygen for them. His head is sore during the day, temple hurts little, nose burning on/off. Feels like sinus problems. Justa constant aching headache. These symptoms have been same since got ch's three weeks ago. Is this normal? Guess from the pain he has at night, it just feels like that during the day?

Feels like he's been bruised on the inside?  Gradually fades away?

Very typical after a bad attack.  I've heard it called "afterburn" and "cluster headache hangover".  Nothing to be worried about, in all likelihood.

It's a nasty feeling, but it doesn't compare to an actual attack.

I've found that drinking a Red Bull or a cup of coffee, or taking a couple of aspirin with an antihistamine like chlorpheneramine maleate helps to alleviate the afterburn.

Best wishes,

George

Once you have a valid Dx of CH established--then you can relax about subtle variations like this. Especially for new cases, sites of pain may wander, quality of pain varies, experiences before and after an attack alter.

It took me five years or more before I developed a very fixed pattern of CH.

If you're at home - you might try wearing a headband. I do this and it seems to help (some). Coffee or red bull might knock off that hangover from the night hits...

Try melatonin at night before bed (12-15mg) It might stop the night hits (it has for me for the most part). I wake up with a shadow, but usually coffee or red bull will get rid of that...

Keep the O2 handy .... that's still our best line of defense...

From the oxygen info page accessed over there << [to the left, the tabs]:

A "bubbler" bottle that adds moisture to the oxygen will
help your sinuses and throat from dryness and irritation.
If you are ordering from a catalog or medical supply place,
it is called a disposable humidifier.

If he is not already using a "bubbler", he might try one for
the "nose burning on/off. Feels like sinus problems." symptoms.

*Of course as always, he should consult a medical professional
first about using one or any course of treatment.
