Title: Well I have been officially diagnosed!
Post by lisa1973 on Jul 16th, 2008 at 4:18pm
Hi gang

Saw the neuro yesterday morning told him my history and symptoms and without battering an eyelid he say you have cluster headaches.

He said that by having O2 at home and the Imigran I was already on the right track, not to use Imigran too much because that can cause rebound headaches but he does understand that sometimes there is a need!

He wants to restart me on Verapamil, he also mentioned Lithium?, Lidnocaine for my nose?, 02 (I have already) and Imigran Injections (Have these too).

He has discharged me back to the GP.

So not good news in one respect but great news that I now have it officially diagnosed!

Thats strange that he sent you back to GP.  My headache specialist will be mine until he retires or moves on, since I have a Ch diagnosis.

Anyway, putting a name to the demon is actually a nice thing, finding support and the right cocktail to tame the beast (as best you can) is next.  Educate your friends and family, always stay prepared with your meds, and may you have pain free days, weeks , months, and years ahead.

Wow, sounds like he was pretty well educated about CH! You gotta tip your hat to a doc with that much info for you, you really lucked out. Let the OUCH UK board know about that neuro, he'd be a valuable resource for the rest of the sufferers on your side of the world. Oh, and officially welcome to the club! ;)

Thanks guys!

I must say it was a really nice change not to have to fight or argue about CH with the medical profession.

I had such a battle with the GP to get O2 etc so was expecting to have to do the same with the Neuro.  He was quite nice as Neuros go my last one was awful!

One interesting thing he said to do with CH is that people with Pineal Cysts usually have CH.  I got diagnosed with a Pineal Cyst last year, mine was 19 x 13 x 11 and as yet hasn't grown in size.  Due another MRI scan in August to check it again. He said its one of those things where you could scan 100 people with CH and only find 80% with a cyst and scan 100 people with a cyst and 80% would have CH.  Doesn't make a blind bit of difference but interesting all the same.

Joined OUCH UK a couple of months ago, been a lifesaver to me! Would definately recommend joining to anyone else who lives in the UK!

To be a clusterhead is a honorary title (is this good English, pls correct me if not), it means you are among the strongest, bravest and toughest people in the world haha. We are the true warriors, modern day Vikings (a wink to Scandinavian friends).

Always good to hear about an educated neurologist - I too have been blessed with one in the nineties, and my current one.

Greetings and painfree days ahead.

Pascal.
