Title: Quick Fix?-Frova+ Coffee
Post by geosailor on Jul 30th, 2008 at 10:19am
Just changed doctors. Last one "couldn't understand why I'm getting so many headaches". The new one suffers from CH so he understands...

He prescribed Frova(a triptan) & Topomax. I haven't started the topomax yet as its a 2 week regrime and I thought I was clear of the CH cycle.
This am, I had a sleepless night coupled with a storm in my area and got the start of a CH around 7 am. (It was starting to thunder & lightning.Storms seem to be a trigger for me.)
I took a Frova followed by a coffee & lo & behold the beast was gone in about 5 minutes.May have been coincidental, but will try again at my next CH.

My only gibe about the Frova is that the packaging is almost impossible to open, especially when you are having an attack.

The flipside of that is to imagine a 2-yr-old gobbling one down. Might not be pretty.

I strongly doubt that the frova aborted the attack for you as it has a 3 hour onset of action.  It's the slowest of all the triptans.

Frova has limited use with CH is as a prevent for predictable nightly attacks.  Take it 3 hours before you go to bed.

It is also useful if flying is a trigger.  When flying I get hit about a half hour after landing so I take it 3 hours the before scheduled arrival time.

The good news on Frova is that it has a 26 hour half life so it will keep the beast at bay for quite a while.

Hope this helps...

Imitrex injectable. 4-6 minutes. No caffeine required. ;D
