Title: St. Louis in January Post by TxBasslady on Oct 2nd, 2008 at 6:09pm
There was much discussion of moving DavCon this January to either St. Louis or Indiannapolis. Since Indy has taken the same no smoking policy that Davenport has...maybe y'all will consider St. Louis.
I already checked out the BESTWESTERN AIRPORT PLAZA INN & CONFERENCE CENTER. The hotel is located in Bridgeton, Missouri, about a mile or so from Lambert/St.Louis International AIrport. They have free transportation from the airport...and also to areas within a 5 miles radius of the hotel. Considering January 15th thru January 18th. Here's the rates (from the website): Regular rate: $84.99 per nt Internet rate: $72.24 (for Thurs) $63.74 (for Fri & Sat) Over 55 rate: $76.49 (" " ) $67.49 ( " " " ) 14 Day Adv.Pay: $67.99 (" " ) $59.99 ( " " " ) They have a bar and full service restaurant where we can smoke. Y'all check it out if you'd like to on the internet. I tried to call JDH to get his opinion on this hotel...but haven't heard back from him yet Anyway...we'll see how this works out. Jean |

Title: Re: St. Louis in January Post by TxBasslady on Oct 3rd, 2008 at 5:04pm
Spose I'll start my trusty list of who's thinking of going.....
JACKIE & BLAKE...........................................................INDIANA TXBASSLADY................................................................TEXAS RACER1_NC...................................................NORTH CAROLINA JIMI & RUTHIE.............................................................KENTUCKY D.J. & STEPHANIE........................................................KANSAS CLUSTERCHUCK............................................NORTH CAROLINA JEN & PHIL.................................................................MICHIGAN MIDWESTBETH.........................................................ILLINOIS JDH & SUE...............................................................MISSOURI LADYLUV................................................................ILLINOIS JEAN....................................................................MISSOURI Some on the list I haven't spoken too about going....I just added them cause they were in Davenport. Some of the Davenport crowd may prefer to not attend in St. Louis...and that's ok. Just let me know if you plan to go, and I'll add you. There's plenty of time...so if there's a better hotel in St. Louis to go...just let me know. We do need a place w/airport transportation though. Also has to be a place where us CH'ers can smoke. :-* Jean |

|
Title: Why not DavCon again? Post by alienspacebabe on Oct 12th, 2008 at 6:19pm
Just a thought -
If the reason we want to move is the smoking situation, why not just rent the conference room again as a smoking room? Even if there's a fee for smoking in it (most hotels are around $250 smoking fee), we can cover it. Seems to me it just wouldn't be the same to have DavCon in St Louis..... |
Title: Re: St. Louis in January Post by Kirk on Oct 12th, 2008 at 9:01pm
Tell you what Linda, I'll show up with my Trike. You just plain show up shorty.
[smiley=smokin.gif] PS: its only 183 miles to the hotel from where I live in IL to the hotel, and I average 17 MPH on the Trike. I think I can make it by Jan. Besides you're talking about a guy who used to work in the Bering Sea in Winter. |
Title: Re: St. Louis in January Post by Linda_Howell on Oct 12th, 2008 at 9:43pm
Only 183 miles huh? Better leave right now then Kirk.
Guiseppi will warm you up with hias denim jacket when you get there. No way in hell am I getting on a plane in January....from California. I'll be stuck in Denver for 4 days on account of the weather. |
Title: Re: St. Louis in January Post by catlind on Oct 15th, 2008 at 10:53am
I'm all for St. Louis, put me down as a definite possible ;)
Unfortunately, me rolling the van has had some financial set backs so I can't guarantee my attendance, but if I can swing it, you can be damn sure I"ll be there! Liz, I thought the smoking ban was because of the statewide ban on smoking? I don't think you can get any smoking locations at all when you are in a state with the ban. I know that's how it worked when NY did it - you couldn't smoke anywhere inside - and in most places there now, outside either. Cat |
Title: Re: St. Louis in January Post by alienspacebabe on Oct 16th, 2008 at 2:24pm
I'm honestly not sure how it will work in Iowa.
I know that I can get a smoking room at the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza in Chicago, though there is no smoking anywhere else in the hotel. |
Title: Re: St. Louis in January Post by LadyLuv on Oct 16th, 2008 at 4:25pm
I will do everything possible to make it where ever we have it... But if I have a vote, I'm voting for Bridgeton, MO
Let me see... For me: Best Western - Bridgeton, MO 189 Miles from home Rooms - Thursday $67.99 - 84.99 Fri & Sat. 59.99 - 63.74 With Breakfast and I think is is $9.00 per night for parking.. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Holiday Inn - Chicago (Mart Center Dr.) 135 Miles from Home Rooms - $169.00 - $214.00 No breakfast included... and I know that it is a Parking fee of $27 per night Which mean that I can spend the entire week end in Mo for approximately what I will spend on one night in Chicago.. Once I weigh the two... I just will not be able to afford Chicago... But I will be with you in spirit, if that's where you decide to go... A week-end in Chicago will actually cost me more than my hotel in Dallas, plus plane fare. Luv & Hugs Lady Luv |

I'm not trying to hijack this from anyone that has been working hard on this so whomever wants to be in charge of getting a block, here's the info.
I just talked with Katherine at the hotel and she said if we book at least 10 rooms she can get us a rate of $64.99 for each night, no change for the weekend, but that's better than $89 or so. And she also said if we go over the 10 rooms, at this point they have availability, they will just continue to add rooms at the same rate. What does everyone think? edited to add: info on room block |

I just got off the phone with the hotel and sent her the room agreement via email. I'm hoping she will get back to me today so ya'll can start making arrangments.
I booked 10 rooms @ $59.00/night, (plus 13% tax) If 10 rooms aren't booked we willbe bumped back to the normal rack rate ($89) minus 10%. I don't think we will have a problem doing this, but just wanted everyone to know. If we need more rooms they will just continue to add rooms until there is no more availability. We are REALLY looking forward to seeing everyone there!! (California people too eehhhhmmm) If you have questions just holla at me!! :D |

No big deal, I thought ... UNTIL I got to the bottom of the page ... The price went from $181.00 to $954.00 !!!! WTF?? ?? ?? ?? SO... I am still watching prices ... Once I book the flight, I will make hotel reservations .. I am looking at getting there on Wednesday, and leaving on Monday ... Chuck |

Just might make the 500 mile trip. The wife says she's game if I am and it's probably cheaper to drive, as long as we're not snowed in here in Michigan.
I would love to see some of you Clusterheads and just may be out of cycle by then. Gonna check airfare but I'll bet even my big 4-wheeler will beat it. Besides want my O2 & opti by my side. Skyhawk5, Don |

Don't make no neverminds, iffen yaz IN cycle or OUT ... Git yer butt down there!!! LOL I am chronic, so I am never out of cycle, and in all the conventions and gatherings that I have been to, there has not been ONE that I didn't get at least ONE hit while there. And ya know what? It didn't matter! Everyone knew what was happening, and just let me do my thing, and NO explanations needed once I got back into the swing ... What a change of pace THAT is! As a mater of fact, I am no longer surprised, when a fellow clusterhead tells me that I was the first person that they ever saw, get a hit. They all tell me what a difference it is to be on the other side, for a change. So, what I am saying is: NEVER let clusters stop you from living your life! GO to the gathering! My co. is only in Mi. But in the past for Las Vegas trips with our O2 co.s they would set me up with an affiliate and I did have O2 in Vegas. Can't garuntee that my current co. or yours will do that but call them and beg, bribe but don't threaten.
And maybe your insurance can be of help (yeah right). Stranger things have happened. I still can't believe I picked up O2 in Vegas more than once, and used it. I'm calling my place Monday so I can decide to fly or not. Good Luck, Don |

I am working on being there. My wife's grandmothers house is only 10 miles (17 mins) from that hotel according to google maps.
My wife has the time off, now let's see if I can make it happen. I have met a few other CHers but what exactly is DavCon, SLouCon, ExCon or whatever it is called? What goes on? (and yes, I already was told I had to buy a beers) |
Title: Re: St. Louis in January Post by Jimi on Nov 24th, 2008 at 9:13pm
There is a lot to do in St. Louis if you so desire. Many will stay all weekend at the hotel just visiting. You develop a bond spending 3 days together and getting to know each other much more than a message board. I hope you can make it.

Unfortunately, Jim and I can't make it this year, but I hope St. Louis works out well. Our middle grandson Cory well be going to Wash. U. next year, so if it is there again we will be there with bells on! Right now I am in cycle that probably has two or three more months to run. Much as I could use the moral support, I can't face the drive.
Hugs to everyone. Becky |

Becky, PLEASE reconsider! Where you are right now is even MORE reason for you to show up! Just because you are in cycle should NOT stop you from going! I am chronic, so I am ALWAYS in cycle. I will get hit, while I am there, but so what? With this crowd, no one will think you strange ... or at least, not strange because you do a silly dance while holding your head and screaming ... LOL! If you don't go, just because you are in cycle, you are letting the beast win. You are stopping your life, instead of living it to the fullest! Don't dwell on the pain of the hits, dwell on the pain free time BETWEEN hits! Live your life to the fullest between hits. If you get hit, while there, just go off (if that is what you prefer) and deal with the hit, abort it as best you can, and then go right back to the fun. If you want someone to go with you, for comfort, support, to help, or teach you new ways, EVERYONE of us would be more than happy to do so! By not going, you are canceling the opportunity to meet fellow sufferers that KNOW what you are going through! They will also help you in dealing with the beast. And most likely you will learn some new tricks to try, to help you deal with the beast better. We just had a meet 'n greet, here in North Carolina, yesterday. During the BS session, I got hit. I'm really tempted to go....BUT, we're pretty broke-ass folks, and classes will just have started again, and it's SO FREAKIN' COLD....so I was wondering if this is my only shot at meeting you guys this year, or might there be another gathering later in the year that I should hold out for?? huh?!? huh?!?!!

Title: Re: St. Louis in January Post by Jimi on Dec 28th, 2008 at 9:40pm
We will be having our OUCH convention sometime in July, but the place has not been decided on yet. There are a lot of Texans on here and maybe you guys could get a meet and greet going down there.
But you are always welcome to come to St. Louis if it is all possible. P.S. We will be inside all weekend. ;) |

Well, in a finite answer to that, Ummmm ... maybe ... LOL! This is a totally non-sanctioned, by any organization, type of gathering. The quick history of it is back a few years ago, a group in the Davenport, Iowa area set up a meet-n-greet for those locals (and otherwise) interested. It went over so well, that it was repeated the next few years, at the same time, and place. Well, as with virtually all gatherings, it gets posted on this site. As the years progressed, more and more of us "out of the area" types started to show up also. It became something to look forward to, after a hectic holiday season: A gathering of friends, to just chat, and visit, and meet in person. No other agenda, than that. This year it was moved to St. Louis, due to the fact that there is now a smoking ban in Davenport. Most of us are smokers, so that made it difficult, especially where it is too cold to just congregate outside, while we smoke. St. Louis was picked, because it is not THAT far from Davenport, but it also allows smoking, inside. SO, to finally answer your question: Who knows if there will be another opportunity to meet? The next ORGANIZED and sanctioned gathering is usually in July, at the O.U.C.H. convention. But, I don't know if there is going to be one this year, because, here it is almost January, and nothing has been set up yet. The location and date used to be set by the end of the previous summer, but now ... Who knows if it will even get done this year. You never know when someone will organize a local gathering. It can happen almost spur of the moment. YOU can even organize one! Maybe just 2 or 3 people will show up, but that is fine too! There will probably not be a gathering with as many participants, as this LouCon will have, unless, by some miracle, the O.U.C.H. convention does finally get organized. So, does this long winded soliloquy help you at all? Chuck |

I have been in contact with Anthony from Linde, he is planning on attending and will be bringing O2ptismasks and high flow regulators for sale. He is also in the work of trying to get O2 from one of Linde's distributors. We will have the Cyl Fil manufacturer with him as well to discuss how to safely fill e-cylinders from large tanks.

Would anyone be interested in coming to The Hill for a dinner one night while you are all here? The Hill is where all the Italians settled when they first came here. My grandparents were among them... I grew up there. There is an Italian restaurant on every corner as well as small Italian shops and family run grocery stores. My favorite place is a very casual restaurant called Rigazzi's. It's a bit of a drive from where you all are staying so just let me know if you are interested. If not...that's fine too!
I'm so excited to have you Knuckle, I mean, Clusterheads here! Jeannie |

Title: Re: St. Louis in January Post by Callico on Jan 4th, 2009 at 4:12pm
I went to the first Davcon, and could only stay for about 2hours and had to turn around and drive 2 1/2 hours back home. It was incredible! I had my wife with me. She is scarred for life! :o
I had to miss the next couple of them due to work, but I will do my best to not miss another opportunity to get together with clusterheads. For one thing, I got hit with about a K7 the first time, and no one looked at me like I was weird or about to die. I had a couple ask if I wanted Trex or O2 or ice, then just left me alone to deal with the hit. I didn't even leave the room, but tried to stay quiet as i could. I didn't want to miss out on a minute of the time I had with those crazy lovable people. The opportunity to spend time with the people who helped save my life is well worth the trip. I cried when I had to leave, and had an emptiness in my heart for weeks just from that short time I was able to be there. Grab Joe and throw him in the car and tell him it is a second honeymoon or whatever you have to do to get him there. If you don't like the first one you don't have to come back, but I'll bet you do! HI,
I have never been to a gathering. In fact, I have never met someone else with cH. I would like to go, but I am in a cluster now, and I don't know how to handle traveling with oxygen and airplanes ( I have never attempted it before) I would try with Imitrex alone, but I'm down to 5 shots, and no more until next month. Does anyone have experience / do you know how to do it? Thank You |
Title: Re: St. Louis in January Post by ClusterChuck on Jan 6th, 2009 at 11:25pm
SonnyJack, you MUST come!
If you have never met others, here is one of the greatest chances to meet a whole bunch of And don't worry about being in cycle. I am chronic, so I am ALWAYS in cycle, and I never let that stop me! As far as the abortives go, you will not be able to bring oxygen with you on the plane. Just use the Imitrex, in case you need it on the plane. Once you get there, we will have oxygen there for you to use. And, it is possible that someone will find the Imitrex that you lost, so that you will have enough to last through the month. If it is at all possible, PLEASE come! You will gain SO much by going! I can't stress it enough: COME!!! I look forward to meeting you! Chuck PS: When you come, bring your own regulator and mask. Oxygen tanks will be there for you to use. It will be easier that way. |

Maybe I'll see you at the convention this year, since chances are good I will actually MAKE it this year. I'm still shocked that they picked St Louis for the January meet & greet. Does anyone know if Thomas & Gena, Ramon & Woobs, and Artonio wll be there? Just 3 days to go!!!! Looks like I will go to the hotel Wednesday evening to see if I run into anybody. If anyone attending the event wants my cellphone #, just PM me here on the board. I'll be staying at a my best friend & bestest supporter's house at night, but hanging at the hotel for the duration (might get a room for Friday night though.) So, it looks like I'll try to get there Wednesday evening. He told me, "Have a good time with your cluster pals." and I said, "What? You're not going to come with me?" "Well, I figured you'd want to go by yourself." I told him, "Not a chance. When you can be there, I WANT you there." I mean c'mon, the dude has been helping me with battling the insurance company over covering my o2, provided alot of emotional support, not to mention has been there for me through some hardcore attacks, held me to keep me from beating my head on the ground, etc. I think he more than deserves to be there. *I do have a favor to ask: Since I won't have a room at the hotel, if I get hit... can someone let me bail to their room to suck o2? I'll have my own tank with me. Just don't want to be sitting in the bar sucking on a tube looking like a freak.... oh wait, I already look like a freak. :P You know what I mean though. It'd be greatly appreciated. ;) The adrenaline/ excitement factor hit me today like a wave, or a rush of blood to the head so to speak. I can't WAIT!!! :D |

Talked to Johnny last night. He is headed to Whiting IN to deliver on Sat AM and thought we could possibly get together over the weekend. He had forgotten LouCon was this weekend as he was not able to get off work. HOWEVER, if all works right he will deliver Sat morn early and I'll meet up with him and he will ride down with me! Might put me in a bit later than planned, but worth it to have him be able to join us.
Here's hoping. Jerry |
