You do realise that studies have been done on capsaicin to find if it was effective and showed no benefit? It's more likely your cycle ended by itself than that sinus buster worked.

We have suffered for years with their sales people hawking this site making outlandish claims about the efficacy of their product. There are more people here who have tried it to no avail than would concur with you I'm afraid.

It may "only" be $15 - but hawking fake claims and snake oil is very much against the ethos of this site and we strive to protect readers and members from being duped.

People in this kind of pain are very vulnerable. We will always listen readily but not in regard to this particular product because of it's offensive marketing and lack of effective beneficial relief.

If people wish to try sinus buster then I wish them luck. I would however be failing in my duty of telling both sides of the tale.

This isn't intended as anything personal against you, I hope you're pain free forever!

Regards
Helen

I'm with Helen. There has been a great deal of research into capsaicin and its pain relieving benefits. I have no doubt in a few years there will be various forms of it that will prove beneficial to many different pain types, including ours! It's current form is just annoying enough to take your mind off of the pain in your head. Smashing your toe with a ball peen hammer will have similar effects!! ;)

Hoping your remission lasts forever. Headache pain, of any type, sucks! If they do come back, I'd strongly suggest you check out the oxygen info link on the left. It's enjoying an incredible success rate on the board. It's cheap, no side effects, and can abort attacks in under 10 minutes. Certainly worth a shot!

Sending pain free wishes your way.

Joe

i used sinus buster and it didn't do anything except make me $15 poorer. :(

perhaps it works for sinus headaches but i've never used it for that. i know 4way nasal spray helps but not by itself.

If anyone is checking this chain I have some updated info:
I have tried sinus buster and it's very affective (for now).  I was reluctant to try, based on this post and my own feelings that it was too general to work on our exclusive pain.
Well I am glad I tried it.  I actually had a bottle from my last episode in 2007.  By the time I bought the spray my cycle had ended so I never had a chance to try until now.

The first beast attack was completely aborted a few days ago (I am at the beginning of a 3-4 month bi-annual cycle).  It seems that more is needed to keep the beast at bay, and time may prove it inaffective.  But for now it works and I have dealt with this horrible pain for 2 decades.
My advice is to try it and be thankful it's only 10 - 20 bucks-__

Sam, you'll find 98% of the people on this board are exactly that. People interested in sharing what has and hasn't worked for them, and trying to help people who are hurting.  In that regard, this board is a priceless gem that saves many people a lot of pain.

There is a small percentage of people here...as anywhere else on the planet...who always seem to find a way to upset people with their posts. You can write off this board based on that 2%, or stick around for the help from the other 98%. Hope you stick around.

I'm thinkin Joe directed this at me.  One of our beloved members was out to visit a while back, after all the huggin, handshakin, backslappin,  and welome backs were over we went outside for a smoke.  Well we had our smoke and decided to stumble around the back forty and look at the hopper damage. We hadn't gone too far and right in our path was a  giant pile of Bovine shit. So now what do I do?  Do I call Bullshit and save my friend or do I quibble over whether it's heifer, steer, calf or bull shit or do I keep quiet and let him find it for himself?  Of course I call  Bullshit  and save my short buddy the hassle of cleanin shit off his boots and that's the cowboy way.

There's enough anecdotal evidence on here over the past few years that, when I weigh it against a newbie (still one post as of this writing) who may have a financial stake in its sales, it's not much of a choice.

Have you tried it?

sam, potter may seem a little bit cynical but keep this in mind. for years we've seen people jump on the the board and 1st post ever talk about the wonders of "sinusbuster". i saw a guy on the old board  go so far as to post bar graphs and charts. 1st post. one sentence said his age and how long he had been a sufferer and then 2 paragraphs about the inter workings of "sinusbuster". many of them only post 1 or 2 times.  i'm not saying thats your intention but it has been with several newbees in the past.

i bought some in desperation when i was new to the board and it didn't help me at all

When I was in my 20s I used to take Sine-Off sinus pills which I thought worked at first. (That was when I thought I had sinus headaches.)
They didn't.

But if this worked or you. That's great. Just be sure the next time (hopefully never) you dont put yourself in a bad situation (like an airline flight) cause you are counting on this remedy. (Like I did once enduring 5 hours sitting still San Francisco-  Hawaii with a CH  all the way. )

So, um yeah. During my last cycle, which was a little over 2 years ago, my son was about to be born so I was at that point where I wanted to try anything and everything to get the beast to stop or go away. My mother got me a bottle of this stuff. I tried it and burned like hell(which I probably would have learned to deal with, had it worked). "...had it worked" Gave me bad bloody nose and mad the beast very angry.  :'(:'(

Just so all are aware of it, the ad at the top of the page is put there by Google, NOT DJ.  He has no control over who advertises there, and the scumbuckets advertising that rip-off take advantage of it and of newbies who are desperate for anything that will help, especially if it is "only" $15.  Personally I would like to apply the product to a portion of the seller's anatomy where it will do the MOST good!  Maybe he can cure his hemorhoids with it.

Thanks for those who posted supportive replies to this chain.
I quit responding last year because I felt like I was being attacked and accused for offering a tip.  The posts were getting stupid and it felt like arguing with 5 year-old (pointless).

These headaches have been destroying my life for 13 years and I've tried just about every med combo out there.
I will continue to offer info on what i have found to work and try to ignore the ignorance.
I will say - The beast does have a way of bringing the worst outta us.

For those interested - -
Update on pepper spray:

I found a recipe online and I made my own batch
Cayenne Pepper - 1.29
Distilled water - .59
unbleached coffee filters - .99

Basically, you boil the distilled water & cayenne pepper and filter the mix.  Add to any intranasal spray container.  Store in the fridge.
The batch I made was far superior to the Sinus Buster product.  (I also made a 1/2 gallon for under 3 bucks).

I will never go without it again during my 4 month bouts with CH.  Sometimes they knock out the beast and other times it's more of a coping mechanism.
But one thing is clear; While the pain is not completely gone, I can leave the house with a bottle of homeade spray and no other meds.  This is the first time in my life I can say that.
I have had many 3 AM sessions on the kitchen floor, sobbing like a baby, lying on top of a busted vile of imitrex becuase the pain was too severe to steady my hand and give myself a shot(manual dosing of imitrex).

So go ahead and make fun - have a blast.
Anyone else who may try this - please let me know if it helps.  Try to have a open-mind.

Shadows are coming more often each day so i know I am close to my quarterly hell.

Sam

After reading the replies, for some reason yours doesn't seem to be a response reciprocating an example of an open-mind you've desired from others with this appeal.

Quote:
Try to have a open-mind.

I've noticed an open-minded atmosphere here that has an array of suggested helpfulness sufficient for the vast majority who have Cluster Headaches.  We're here if need be in any event.
In fact I've felt one coming at work and downed a double shot of espresso that seemed to disintegrate the inevitable oncoming breaking through the verapamil, although verbally LIT UP for the next couple hours, but I would never depend on it alone.  Yeah sparked up, I'm then annoying to those around me, co-workers have their remarks and ribbing, not pointless, not stupid, not ignorant.  The drinks less caffinated with taurine, also suggested here, don't go with verap, but they work, based on the many noticeably agreeable responses in those threads.  It took an open mind to catch on and discover energy drinks work.  :)

Tried and true is the big clue, but that doesn't seem to flow through this thread.  Be happy you have what works for your pain instead of an opinion remarked to be ignorance.     :)

I do hope you stick around - someone who has such a history of CH does have a lot to offer other sufferers.  You have no need to justify what works for you and what doesn't.  Just thank heaven that something does...

Mr Wold did have somewhat of the same problem a few years ago, but he also had more than ten posts behind him when he started discussing the values of shrooms.  He also had some data to back up what he was saying.

SO here's an update (would hate to leave it at the conspiratorial 10 posts-):
The pepper spray has only helped to eleviate the symptoms during an attack.  I have found that overtime, the spray greatly diminishes in its effectiveness.
Last night I had 5 attacks and the spray helped but by no means stopped the pain.
So go ahead and bash me more and tell me you told me so.  Then maybe you can flush yourself down the toilet!

Sam - sorry to hear that what you thought would be your best treatment did not work out for you. Hope that some of the information here will be of help to you.

Peace and Painfree days and nights to you....

Thank you kindly Qn -
I frankly just wish I knew of some way to get my hands on the stuff that is known to work (National Geographic documentary explains this well).
But for some ridiculous unknown reason, it is illegal...

Look to the bottom left of your screen and you'll see a button for ClusterBusters. There's a lot of information there that may help.

Rivea Corymbosa seeds are perfectly legal to buy, sell, and plant. It would serve you well to find out where you can obtain some.

Here's a good place to start:

Okay, now I feel SO stupid.  On one of my very first posts, I did mention Sinus Busters and I now read that maybe this site has been abused by people hawking the stuff and especially by newbies (I'm proud to say in one week, I've gone from being a "newbie" to being a "junior"; I'm assuming "junkie" is my next level?).  I have found this group to be incredibly supportive and informative and I hope I didn't come across as a snake oil hawker.  LOL!  But as I stated, maybe not clearly enough, Sinus Busters did help bring down the pain a bit for me.  It DID NOT abort or prevent the attacks just so I'm clear.  Possibly this was due to El Nino acting up and I had a bit of a sinus thing going in addition to the Cluster attack and it relieved some of that sinus pressure.  And yes, in order to try to deal with the pain during an attack I've also stuck my head over a warm mist humidifier and burnt my face.  And shoved a whole sprig of lavender up my nose which got partially stuck.  And slammed my head on a floor.  And on a wall.  And screamed at the cat for trying to play with the oxygen mask strap.  All of which made me feel better for a minute (okay, not the screaming at the cat).  Maybe it was just that I took my mind off the CH pain for a split second to deal with another pain.  And God knows, when you snort pepper up your nose, you're focusing on that pain.  All to say, maybe there are people who have clusters and sinus conditions going at the same time and so the SB helps alleviate a little of that pressure which feels like relief or an amelioration of the CH.  But in my experience, it certainly isn't a "remedy" nor a preventative.  Having said all that, I have some SB stock I'm willing to sell for $50 a share.  Any takers?

There is something to the pain relieving qualities of capsium. Just google it and you'll find hundreds of medical studies showing its effectiveness in various forms. In my humble opinion,  ;) I think they will eventually come up with a form that may prove effective for a larger percentage of CH'ers. Many of us have snorted Lidocaine, (under doctors direction no less) and obtained varying degrees of pain relief from our attacks. Capsium is just another form of a topical anisthetic. For me, Lidoacine would ratchet the pain level of an attack down one or two clicks.

But using Sinus Busters in its current form, seems roughly the equivalent of eating lots of moldy bread hoping to accidentally ingest some pennicyllin! It's still in its early research stages. No one will call you a snake oil salesman for saying you tried various things and obtained small levels of relief. Lordy the things I've tried in the throes of a KIP 8 or higher! ::)

I think a doctor sprayed some of that stuff up my nose once. Or some kind of pepper spray. He wanted to demonstrate how I should use it. I layed down on the table & just before he did it he said "Do you have a headache now?" When I said "No, of course not", he did it anyway. Holy hell, it burned the crap out of me. I remember driving home & crying, not from the spray, but because he actually had the nerve to ask me if I had a headache. After I had been explaining to him for months how severe my pain was, the fact that he thought I could casually lay on a table & carry on a conversation with him during a CH left me feeling like I would never be understood & I would never get help. My goodness, I forgot all about that. So many years ago. It took so long just for me to be taken seriously.

Sadly this is STILL too common of an experience around here. :(

Guiseppi's right. There's still many who don't take him seriously to this day.
