Title: Devastating Blow
Post by Ginger S. on Sep 3rd, 2010 at 5:39pm
Many of you know me from this board and that I suffer from CH.

My son who is almost 22 knew what he might be in for when he got a bit older and the possibility of CH hitting him as well.  He's suffered from migraines since 2 years of age.  We were both being optimistic about CH and it hopefully not hitting him at all or at least until he is older.

He has had a  few hits in recent years and is now convinced that some of the "migraines" he suffered as a child were CH.

Now for the Devastating Blow...My Son Failed the Beer Test.

He went to the colleges Senior night last night and had 2 beers, and he got hit with a killer CH.  He worked up to telling me because as a sufferer and his mother he knew I would not take the news well.  We both cried for a while and talked a lot.  I told him to come here if he needs added support and will recommend his girlfriend come here too, he will need her as well.

Blessings to you all and if he does join up here I know you will all be of much help and support to him.

Mom could use a hug right now....

Damnit. As a parent to two daughters.....a constant worry to me. On the other hand....what a gift.....you get diagnosed with CH, find out mommy knows the ropes...saves you a lot of wandering around blind.

[smiley=heart.gif] [smiley=hug.gif] Love and hugs to ya mommy.

Thats too bad. It is interesting to me though. Two beers would always set one off for me too. One beer i was ok but two would trigger a ch everytime. During a cycle that is. Really sorry about it though. Grit your teeth man and hold onto something its gonna be a wild ride. The only consolation you can give him is that this is gonna make him one tuff son of a gun. Let me know if I can do anything.

Sincerely, (your brother in pain) >:(

As we all know the pain from CHs, it's not something you'd ever wish on anyone, never mind your own son.

But he does have a mum who can give him a huge amount of help and support in how to minimise the impact of CHs.

Sending a virtual hug...

I'm with Guiseppi and Mike on this one, at least he'll have a one up on most people.

Otherwise, I'm sorry to hear this.  I do understand what it's like to watch your kid go through hell and back.  Trust me, been there, got the t-shirt.

Thank You All!!!

I'd say more, but don't want to wind up in tears again.

Thank you all again.

Has been our biggest fear. Everytime our youngest complains about a headache we grill her for details. So far we've been lucky.

Hugs...

Christy I pray you stay lucky with your children!!

Thanks much for the virtual hugs, much needed right now.  My son has been an awesome supporter and now for him to be hit with definite CH is just heartbreaking.

Change her wording to my only child, and there's my life, too.

So sorry Ginger.

Let me add that I do hope he's going to be formally diagnosed - with all the rule out tests necessary to . . .well rule out more sinister stuff.

Just cuz it walks and talks like CH may not be enough for it to actually be CH.  Better safe than sorry.

The Wench makes a great point. Lord knows you know the symptoms as well as any doctor.....but always best to get the basic tests just to for sure rule out the nasty stuff.

Oh yes he will be properly diagnosed, I'll make damn sure of that!

Thanks again to you ALL, I don't know where I'd be without you!!   [smiley=hug.gif] [smiley=heart.gif]

Ginger,
I'll say this and hope like hell it doesn't turn out to be true, even after diagnosis, *mama* might still have hell with the doctors.  Even after Sarah was diagnosed with endometriosis, we played hell with the doctors wanting to try this and that and finding out that each new treatment failed miserably.

There are times that I still get pissed off at her past doctors.

Ah I know the Doctor battle well, have had to fight it for myself and my kids on many occasions.  At least I don't have to deal with the Doc we dubbed "Dr. I Don't Know" any more.  I swear every time we went to this moron for a problem all he'd say is "I don't know" and leave it at that.  Just before I fired his ass, I told him it was his job to know or find out if he didn't know, not just to leave his patients hanging like that.

I'm so sorry Ginger.  My Dad had CH.  With 10 kids I'm dreading, but prepared, for one of mine to get them too.

My 28 y/o had a couple of hits this past year but they thankfully went away after just that.  I just know I'll be ready when he is.  But that doesn't make you feel any better about seeing that fear and pain in your own childs eyes.

Show him the ropes you've learned to swing from so well.  Show him that CH doesn't define who he is and that a full life awaits him.

((((HUGS))))

Ginger, I know (as do so many here including yourself) the pain that comes when a child of ours (or any child) is suffering. I have 7 children, one with a rare genetic disorder. We suffer for and with each and every child every day. One of my 7 shows some signs of clusters (a female at that, and we all know women don't get CHs) and it's awful for her. Like you, I will use my collected wisdom and experience to help her much quicker than I received. Good luck, and God bless! lance

Hey Ginger,

How you holding up?  It's been almost two weeks, how's your son doing?

Lance: Thank you, your supportive words are a blessing.

his wife:  We are doing ok, but have a lot going on right now.  I am sick as a dog and have to work through it due to call offs from CH, I have one hell of a cold that I think has turned into a sinus infection.  Oh JOY!   >:(

My son is fine keeping busy with college and work and avoiding all triggers.

Thanks for asking!   ;)

We are muddling through and thank you very much for your sincere concern.  I know you guys are here and I have leaned on you all a few times (ok that's may be putting it a bit mildly  ;D )

Ty (my son) and I have talked a lot about CH and he has lived with me for all the years that I've had it so he knows the score.  I have shared what knowledge I have and have pointed him and his girlfriend here if they feel they need it.

He just got ins. through his work (new job) so when my appointment with Dr. Rozen finally comes around (still on waiting list) I am going to take Ty with me and try to set up his appointment then, we want to get a foot in the door and face to face with Doc and both of us first.  In the mean time Ty is episodic with long PF in between hits so far and heeding his mom's advice about triggers.  My Dad even piped up with a few  [smiley=yikes.gif] which he doesn't do often, Dad's more the strong silent type  ;)

There is a lot more going on as well but I won't get into all that now suffice it to say my sons g/f's parents are $*&^!*(% NUTS!  Here's a quote from my FB page as to that
Quote:
Some people are just SICK!!! What parent or grandparent for that matter would tell their child or grandchild "We are going to do everything in our power to destroy you!" This is what my sons girlfriends mother and grandmother told her. SICK!! JUST SICK!!!
...

As you may have seen in my other posts I have been sick for 3 weeks now, with what started out as a nasty cold.  It went rogue on me and turned into the mother of all sinus infections and I finally got meds for it today.  Die sinusitis die [smiley=bigtiny.gif] !

Anywhoooo I think I've rambled enough for now  ;D

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers, they are very much appreciated!  [smiley=hug.gif] [smiley=heart.gif] [smiley=hug.gif]
