Title: What's your good news?
Post by Akina on Jul 7th, 2012 at 3:27pm
Following on the awesome lead of Linda, I think we need this type of thread.

Basically, everyone posts up whatever good news or happy news they have so that everyone else can see that despite the "gloom and doom" of CH's, there are still some awesome things happening to all of us.

I'll start:
My computer crashed the other day, and was beyond any hope of repair.  So now I have a brand new harddrive in it (much much bigger one too!), and have a whole new bug-free system!  I'm really happy 'cause now my computer runs better than ever!

My wife still loves me! ;D No small accomplishment considering we celebrate 30 years of marriage in September. GREAT idea for a thread.

Two of my artworks sold in the last 24 hours.  THAT makes me happy!  Brew hasn't been hit for weeks - that makes me ecstatic!

(And Guiseppi, you're a lucky, lucky man!)

That is awesome news both of ya!

Guiseppi, I hope Auban and I can reach that kind of milestone.

Mosaic, your artwork is gorgeous.  Glad to see you had some pieces sell!

Presently it's difficult and hateable in my shoes changing from one dislikeable job to another recently, but finally two much better offers are on the table at present, and I'll be moving.  One business is being built and furbished, so I'm waiting it out, but I'll be operationally in charge finally.  The other is something completely different to decide on in the meantime.  The future looks bright.  I REALLY needed change.

I like the Mosiacmaid's work, too.

Jezep is our Andy of Mayberry here, he knows his fairplay and strums a good tune.  I'll re-elect him, he lets me keep one bullet in my shirtpocket if I don't lock myself in a cell again.    ;)

I'm a man with:
  • a wife whom I adore and who loves me back,
  • a job that doesn't suck too much or too often,
  • a son who's in college and making a life for himself,
  • a group of friends who always have my back,
  • a head that's behaving.
  • And I'm still sitting up and chewing my own food.

It don't get much better.

We will be celebrating our 44th anniversary in Sept. We ought to celebrate together. ::) :)

On August 6 I will have been blessed with 35 yrs with Linda.  I couldn't have asked for a more supportive, loving wife.

My head, while not PF, has been down to one or two breakthroughs a day since I've been using Batch's Vit D program.  I am using a much higher dosage than most, but then I've never been normal.  (Why be normal?  Normal is only average and I don't want to demean myself!)  All in all I'd say life is good.

Ellen's finished with summer session at ISU, and she's home, visiting, for a week.  She just found out that the contract for her (awesome) paid internship at the museum has been extended for another year.

Good to see my kid so utterly happy.  :)  She'll be a Junior when she starts the fall semester.

Best,

George

P.S.--Great idea for a thread.

Because of her awesomely great detailed artwork, at first I thought of art museum, but then remembered she altered course into geology or some fossil-searching science, whatever it's called.  :)

In that case, the back drawers of their museum would have great detail for her to be meticulous with for a great whole picture of the region's far past.  Fantastic she's enthusiastically interested, George, and happy with the surprising turn of her talented focus when so accomplished otherwise.  Good to hear!

I'm not Brew, I'm his wife, so I'm qualified to answer.  Yes, History and Political Science for our son.  We're VERY proud.

And we're celebrating 30 years of wedded bliss in October.  Damn, when did that time fly by?

Yep. Just like his old man.

He's actually declared a double major (also just like his old man): history and political science. Except mine were history and philosophy.

All equally as "useless" in this results-driven society. Which is one of the reasons I admire the young lad so much. ;)

I was going to direct my question to Brewcrew in general, Pat, knowing three replyers possible, but remembered that was Brew's old login also.  :)

Yes, History and Political Science ...

Excellent combination so leadership does not repeat it.
I'm still changing jobs due to experiencing inept, even sociopathic leadership above that needs to get out of the way.

Definitely agree with results-driven society, which has a lacking, but to good leadership, not useless.  I admire it immensely too and love to see it.  Believe me, I respect it.

We will celebrate 32 years this month (34 all told in September).  I got my anniversary present a bit early.  A new treadmill!

My *get back in shape*plan is working, losing pounds slowly and inches even slower.

Daughter is back in school, pursuing a degree in French (to add to all her other degrees).

Great thread! Love it. :)

I have a lot to be happy about, too:
- I'm married to a wonderful man
- I have two silly & adorable guinea pigs
- we're moving to our new home quite soon
- my week and a half in hospital showed me just how much my friends and family care and many of them visited me more than once
- ch has stayed away, the last cycle was over a year ago

And I saved my fave one for last:
- Against all odds I'm still pregnant. Today marks exactly one month from the day I was taken to the hospital ward and the doctor and midwives were so sure that our baby will arrive within days. Well, so far, so good. I'm now 35 weeks pregnant, and my official maternity leave begun on Saturday (back in here maternity leaves begins at 35 weeks) and now the baby can arrive anytime; in my area the doctors and midwives will not try to prevent the birth anymore (in other parts of Finland they will try to prevent it up to 36 weeks).

Naturally we're hoping that our baby will wait until week 37 or later, but things are pretty good right now. All the prayers from my ch family must have worked, so thank you all once again! :)

Wishing PF days to all,
Sanna & LittleRascal 35+2

33 days completely pain free.  No minor headaches, no random rock shows, nothing.  That hasn't happened in over three years.

And I have an awesome wife.  I'm not just bragging, I'm pretty sure its been established as a law of marriage...

I have an awesome daughter.

I have an awesome dog.

I'm going to California soon, where my headache specialist will be the most qualified person on earth to ensure I continue to have an awesome life :)

My good news is...leaving tomorrow for 10 days to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons with my son.  This will be our 6th annual father-son birthday camping trip.  We are born 1 day apart and every year for the past 6 yrs we travel somewhere for a week or so to enjoy the wilderness and a tent.  My little man will be 12 and I will be 44.  Will share some photos and good news of our adventures upon our return.

  Let me see:

Not one of my 7 children are in jail.
I looked in the obituaries, and my name wasn't there.
I beat Brew in "words" once or twice.
I didn't hit the deer that ran out in front of my car     at  55 mph the other day and I didn't have a heart attack afterwards.

    O.K., O.k.....

I have a husband and 7 kids who love me.
I have the most wonderful friends in the world.
I've been PF for some time now.
After months of drought..it's been raining.

Great thread!  I met the love of my life a year and a half ago and got married in May.  He's the only person I've ever met who can make me laugh during a hit.  My attitude is much better because of him.  And he's an engineer with a good job.  I don't have to worry so much about financial security anymore.  It's a big relief.

My daughter made honor roll again and is moving on to the 5th grade :)) And my son who has struggled big time with learning disabilites and has been in a selfcontained class for years now (a small class of 7 or so kids) was mostly honor roll during his first year in middle school and is going to start to be integrated into mainstream classes next year!
My Hubby still puts up with all my crap and we will be married 14 yrs officially in 8 days! (been together 16 yrs)!  And he amazingly has been able to make me laugh durng a hit too!   :o

Tomorrow morning I fly to Arizona for a week's work on an Indian reservation with some of the teens from our church'es youth group.  We'll be holding Vacation Bible School, doing some ministry in nursing homes, ministering in the Church, and participating in a Jail ministry.  I'm really looking forward to this opportunity.  Southeast Arizona in July is not my idea of a vacation spot, but we aren't going for vacation!   ;)

I'll be out of communication for 10 days.  I'll miss you all, but it will be a great trip.

My two cents:

Wonderful wife, two irratating teenagers and a great dog.  Also - managing to make a good living in a tough economy, own my house, got no debt and seem to be coming out of this cycle.  But the best news for me?

My son had Aplastic Anemia (basically a complete failure of the bone marrow) a little over two years ago.  Tough to watch a 14 year old have to get blood infusions, chemo, self injections and massive amounts of ungodly large pills three times a day.  Bottom line is got his last test results yesterday - blood counts are all good and have been stable for the last six months, off all the drugs.  Doc's comment was his results were "boring".  He will probably always have low platelets - so my back up plan of him becoming a Marine is probably toast - but other than that I think the kid is going to be OK.

I've replicated this experience dozens of times, and yet I'm STILL amazed at how  fast we become great friends. My latest vistim was Dennis "The Crackin" up in Massachusettes. We planned a 30 minute coffee and donut meet, stretched into a couple of hours.  ;)

Akina,

Monterey, like Joe said,  is on the most beautiful coast-line in the world.

Once you get settled, you MUST see one of the best aquariums in the world, explore the "missions" that Junniper Serra built, travel to Big Sur and walk into the 2000 yr. old Redwoods for a spirtual experience like no other.  Monterey is south of San Fransisco which is a city...well words just escape me now because it is a city that can't be explained.  It has to be experienced.  Walk across the Golden gate bridge or up Nob Hill..O.K. I am sounding like a travel agent, aren't I?

I can't think of one thing that you are going to dislike about Monterey.  I am so ahppy for your news.   :)

Lol!  Don't worry about sounding like a travel agent! Auban and I are both really interested in exploring all the state has to offer.  I wouldn't be surprised if Auban hash out and about every spare weekend!

As for being by the coast: YIPPIE!!!!!  I am a HUGE water lover, so you can kinda guess where I'll be spending my time during the week!

Then there is the whole "meeting new Clusterheads" aspect lol

I have more happy news: I met a doc today, she checked our baby and she is now in safe weeks. She is 2829grams (estimation) and growing normally. :) I also checked: if ch should arrive during/right after birth, I will get medical oxygen at the hospital, at the very same room our little one will be born. :)

WE GOT OUR ORDERS!!!  Auban and I have discussed it, and we will be leaving by the end of August to being our trek westward.  It's not much time to pack up an entire house, plus Auban's dozen or so tanks, but I have family in our area that is more than willing to come out and help pack things up.  We plan on moving so early (a month or so at least) to ensure that we can get an appt with his new specialist (I believe he's called the "All Knowing Grand Poo Bah" of the CH world) and also ensure I have continued care for my own personal health reasons.

If any one would like to PM me with advice for such a long drive, I would be COMPLETELY grateful.  I've move from one state to the one directly above it, but never a cross country move.

Oh, and I hope everyone is having a great day/week/month/year.  And keep up the good news posts...everyone needs a smile or laugh, especially after the Beast decides he wants to try a new dance number!

If you are referring to Peter Goadsby in San Fransisco...then you are correct in your assumption of what he's called.

Cross-country moves are no different, than from one state to another close by.  Just longer.   ;D  Enjoy the journey and take time to stop and see things along the way.  This country is so beautiful and every state has it's own wonders.

Congrats Akina!  You will have a beautiful drive if you will take the time to enjoy it.  I know it is a job moving, and you are trying to get there, but take the time to enjoy all that is on the way.  If I knew exactly from where to where I could possibly give you a good routing.  I've driven a good bit of this country! PM me if you want some advice, or put down the way you plan to go on here and let others tell you what to look for.  I know if you are in a rental truck you won't be able to go out of your way  much, but there are still things you should watch for.

Well, after much talking (and racing around our current base, LOL), we have finally been told we have 8 days to get from one side of the US to the other. I believe that is based off us traveling 350 miles in the span of one day.

@Linda:  Yep, that's exactly who I was referring to!  Auban's current specialist has already told us that we will be getting a referral at least to his clinic in CA; at the most, actually getting him as Auban's next specialist.  We are SUPER excited about that, lol.

350 miles in one day is a piece of cake.   Gives you enough time to stop and smell the roses along the way.  Are you taking interstate 80 by any chance?  Not sure where you're starting off from.  Interstate 40 is good also.

I cannot imagine a God who would allow you to be 'hit' with CH, while in the throes of labor and delivery.  That would be just too much.  Before or after is one thing.  During????  No,No,No!!!!!!!!!!!  I'll be praying for you.

Thank you, Linda. :)
I do hope that ch will stay far away during labor, but I want to be prepared for everything. That helps me to prepare.

So far omega3s have nicely kept ch away, but the doc did mention that if I want to be absolutely sure, I should quit taking them: there might be a risk during a c-section, should I need one; I'm not scheduled for one. I am a bit nervous about giving up taking omega3s, because last week I took it later than usually and shadows appeared. That was my test to see what would happen and the sign was not for it. I need to consider all factors, I suppose.

But to add more good news: baby is now full-term and that makes me so happy! :) That means safe weeks and she's welcome to arrive any day she wants to. I do have a nice date in mind, but Little Rascal can decide herself... ;)

More good news: the move to the new home. Almost everything is now here at the new place and I'm surrounded by only 26 unpacked boxes. Esa has already assembled most of the furniture, only one bookself is left. That means that we're left with unpacking smaller things, finding their new places and then decorating. Can't wait! :)

Just returned from 10 peaceful days sleeping in a tent among the wilderness with my son.  It was our 6th annual father-son birthday camping trip.  We are born 1 day (+ 32 yrs) apart.  He turned 12 and I turned 44 while we were away.

We went to Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park including Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  We enjoyed viewing wildlife, geysers, waterfalls, FRESH OXYGEN, tall forested mountains filled with glaciers and green trees, cooler temperatures, friendly people, and dozens of adventurous outdoor activities.

That's a quick report of my good news. ;)

ohhhhh, Gregg, you sure were in a beautiful place to celebrate your birthdays.

Hey guys????

This is what I had in mind to jump-start the general posts.  Can we keep this going?   Surely everyone has good news to report all the time and this thread has been a breath of fresh air here.

Lets keep it going, o.k.?  Newcomers sometimes don't post in the right forum and post HERE in the general board instead of meds, getting top know you or CH specific.

I'd sure like this forum to stay as it is...a place to post  "GENERAL"  good stuff/news.  To make each other laugh.   ;)

     Good news:

I have a really good friend from here.  She lives in Canada. (my ts)  Her husband HAD cancer but has gone through the "process" and is cancer free now.  I am so happy for them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I cannot tell you how happy this makes me.

I'm so happy that everyone is still posting their good news.  It's been really helpful for me with the past week, what with all the stress of moving.

Let's see:  My daughter turned 3, is growing like a weed, and her vocabulary is increasing every time we turn around!  Auban is still PF, so our current treatment plan is working like a charm (knock on wood!), and I've managed to pack up half the house already!

Some of you will remember a certain teenage daughter that we almost lost a few years ago.  Well she's 21 now and last week I helped her move into her own appartment.  After a long twisty road she is handling life quite well and has found someone that makes her happy.  The bonus is I actually like the guy.  But I'll never tell her that ;)

That's great news Dennis! Always nice when you like your children's friends & partners!

Joe and I had a nice trip to MA, sorry we didn't get to see you this time. Joe did alot of peddling about on a friend's bike while I worked. We got to go to Woodstock CT to visit my brother there too. He brought together some other family members for a small reunion. Great time.

We're heading out tomorrow to volunteer at Camp Connect, a 4-day camping trip that reunites siblings seperated in the foster-care system. Should be exhausting but rewarding.

Everything is ready for the baby; we got the last things we'll need yesterday. :)

It looks like that our baby is not in any hurry to here, but her grandmas are getting restless! ;D My mother mentioned only five times on Friday that she would love the baby to arrive this weekend. ;D

We'll see... the expected due date is next Saturday, August 11th. Although I'm excited to meet our precious baby, I am a bit nervous about the pain involved. I know it's funny... a clusterhead who is a bit worried about pain, but this is different pain. At least I know that there are pain management methods which actually can work just like that and the reward for it all will be well worth it. :)

Any quesses when she'll be here...? ;)

Today marks 35 years with the best thing that ever happened to me other than my relationship with Jesus Christ.  On Augst 6, 1977 I married my best friend and greatest supporter.  She has stuck with me through some very trying times and has always been patient when I've lost jobs due to my CH or back injuries, has encouraged me when I've had to make job choices I didn't want to make or tried sales (at which I can starve to death!)  She gives me space when I'm getting hit, comfort when it is over, and puts up with my selfish, grouchy, critical attitude when the beast is giving me grief.  Even though she has MS and stuggles with fatigue and has to use a cane to get around she keeps a positive image and works harder than she should.  All of this and she still loves me!

Some of you have been priviliged to meet her.  She is not one who likes the limelight or to have attention drawn to her, but she could not be a better supporter!  35 years of putting up with my CH, of which about 31 were diagnosed, and now over 10 years chronic.  I could not ask for more.  I really have no idea how I would make it without her.  I know I got more than I deserved when I married her, and I know I love her so much more now than I had any idea of when we married.  I can say I am truly blessed!

Horoscope for those born in Finland -- soon.

You will begin a journey carried in footprints of those closest to you and then rascally exploring alongside before bounding a distance further to your own path, which will be very rewarding.  Along the way among blossoms of imagination may be a tea party with guinea pigs.  One may be late looking through the mirror.

Any name ideas?        :)

Yay, baby's first horoscope, thank you, Kevin!  :)

Linda, August 17th was Little Rascal's original expected due date. :) That was altered during the first ultrasound check up. If our baby will arrive that day, I sure hope that she will start her great entrance during my friend's party - that would make a great story... ;D

Names... Here in Finland most parents keep their baby's names as a secret until the christening day. We're planning to do the very same. Of course, part of this secrecy is the fact that back in here, people want to see the baby first before naming him or her; they want to be sure that the name will be the perfect match for the baby. We have decided that our baby will get 3 first names, just like I have. At this point, we're planning to give her the same third name than I have, but that can change if we end up changing the first two names we are currently thinking.

I can tell you, however, that we had a hard time deciding the perfect first name for our daughter, because we disagreed on so many of them. It took us a long time to find these 3 on our list for now, so let's hope that they will suit our daughter. Then again, if we're getting a boy after all, we do have 3 nice names in mind for a boy, too. That process was much, much easier for some reason.

I will reveal all the names once our baby is officially christened, which will happen within 2 months after her birth.

My mother does want to know the name badly. She has been asking for it for months now, but we have been firm. So she can pick up the calendar and say out loud all the names she finds, but we won't reveal our picks just yet. ;)

So, after a LONG discussion period, of a couple of months, Auban and I finally decided to take the plunge and get a second vehicle...a 2008 Chevy Equinox.

This allows me to not HAVE to wake up with him every morning (though I still enjoy it some mornings), and allow us a little extra room when it comes to transporting his gear and his hobby.

Price was good for us to be able to afford payments each month, and still be able to pay off 'hopefully' within one year's time.

Sooo happy!!

And sandie...I'm partial to August 18th...that's our anniversary.  ;D

I love reading this thread, so much good news all around! :)

Thank you for your guesses, I'll keep August 17th and 18th in mind. ;)

Our baby surprised her docs and midwives and proved them wrong. She is still happily growing - PAST HER EXPECTED DUE DATE. :) They were so sure that she will be here long before her EDD, but nope. I know my baby, she's not in any hurry! ;D If I'll be induced, I'll be meeting the very same docs and midwives at the hospital and I can show them that this time they were wrong. Perhaps they can use us as an example and give a little hope to other mothers at the same ward; it is possible that baby can stay until EDD and after that, too. :)

Other good news: I decided to play it safe and quit taking omega3s for a while. It's been two weeks tomorrow, and so far, so good. :) My head has been fine without them, just one morning (after a sleepless night) my head felt odd, but no hit, no shadows. I plan to get back to omega3s right after giving birth, so I'll be without them for around 3 weeks more at the maximum.

Lots of good & great news to everyone & PF days,
Sanna & Little Rascal 40+1 :)

My elder daughter and her husband and my new granddaughter came and spent the night with us Sat and then went to church with us on Sun.   So at lunch we had my son from SC, my daughter, her husband, and daughter, and my son who lives about 45 minutes away came with his wife and two sons.  Great weekend!

Ellen had a great day working in the field for the museum...  Can't be too specific, unfortunately, since she'd have my head ;-) but suffice it to say that she was very happy.

She gets to go out again next week, which she's excited about.  Makes a nice change from working with previously collected material (although she loves doing that).

The new semester starts for her in a couple of weeks.  Among other things, she'll be taking a class in sedimentation and stratigraphy for the Geology side of her double major--probably the one she's looking forward to the most in this go-around.

EJ has been very busy lately as well.  She just finished a reconnaissance-level survey for the city, and is working on a Historic Site nomination.  She'll soon be starting on a traveling exhibit, not to mention the normal highway mitigation work, and so forth.  She's probably working sixty or seventy hours a week.

Good to see both the women in my life so happy, busy, and engaged.  :-)

Best,

George

My good news is that I was miles out of town when She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed texted, "Windows frozen".

I texted back, "One gallon, luke-warm water".

I won't print her reply but it seems her computer made some interesting noises.

My good news is our precious baby daughter. She is finally here and she is absolutely adorable! :) We're thrilled and happy!

She was born early Friday morning and we brought her home from the hospital this afternoon.

And it was great to know that none of the meds I was given during the labor triggered ch.

All the best & PF days,
Sanna

after i got my leave form, orders, and finally my clearing papers,  it seemed that we would not have enough money to move to california until about ten days after i sign out on leave.  well, the moving pay advances hit my account sooner than expected, so we can leave the minute i sign out.

everything is falling into place  :)

EDIT:  HA, this is aubanbird, didnt realize my wife had signed in on my computer.

My wonderful news concerns my 45 year old niece Tracey who has been in treatment with chemo and radiation for some months now.  She got the word today that the mass has shrunk down to almost nothing and no more treatments for her.  They will continue with CT scans and simply monitor her.  It's been a scary time for all as her sister just finished tx for breast cancer.  Thanks to God for their return to health.

I am bumping this thread back up.  The general board was always for fun and everyday  stuff and sadly newcomers aren't using the the other boards to post their medication, CH specific, and welcome to ch.com posts and instead are putting them on the general board.

This thread should be on-going simply because every day some one HAS to have good news to share.  It helps knowing that our lives aren't just abought pain.

I just got home after a month on road between Kentucky  and Caif.  We drove through Zion national park, Taos, New Mexico and stopped to see friends here at the Las Vegas conference.  America really IS beautiful.  The Rocky mountains...the Sierras...

o.k.....anyone with any good news lately?

Linda

Not personal good news, but the Tigers are going to the World Series after a convincing door slam on a sweep of the Yankees.

The electricity flows when it happens, it does a lot for everyone around here.

St. Louis Cardinals would be great to play, we beat them in '68, they us in '06.  This would be a great rubber match in my lifetime and for those in both towns with the memories.  Another CatBird championship this year.

The Tigers vs Giants sounds like a big brawl, too.       :)

I had a gastric bypass done this month and have lost 45 pounds so far this year.  5 pounds since the bypass last week.  I want to loose 100 more additional pounds at least if not a little more.  On the road to a new me and healthier lifestyle.  Dr says I can go off my blood pressure meds and cpap after 50 pounds lost from surgery and diet change.  I am also hoping this means I can avoid a 4th back surgery.

i made it to Monterey, and it is totally alien here.

i am used to doing a job i dont particularly like, working with people i have nothing in common with, and dealing with a schedule that i could NEVER plan anything around, usually being at work for about three out of every four hours every day.  oh yeah, and doing it all with cluster headaches.

since the move however, i have been doing a job i love, working with people who i have a lot in common with, and working on a very regimented schedule that has me home about half of the day.  and since i started on the lithium/verap combo, no headaches.

and they tell me that DLI is supposed to be hard...  ::)

the area out here is beautiful.

the strangest thing is the wildlife.  its like a petting zoo.  if it were legal, i could hunt the deer out here with a sledge hammer...

oh, and somebody should have told me the water was that cold... :o

Thanks for bumping this up Linda!

Congrats to everyone for the good things happening in your lives.  I know it happens to us all, but some need to really think to realize all things aren't bad.  This thread helps that a lot!

My good news is that this week we walked away from a deer accident with my husbands Corolla even though the bucks antlers went through the windshield.  I now have about 30 quarts of venison to can and my husband will still be able to drive his car after cleaning it up and replacing the windshield, which gives us more time to save up the money for a newer work car.

It's been a fun time getting settled in and used to the new area.  Our house is FANTASTIC, and you simply can't bet a fenced in yard (that they provided to us!), so all in all, good...no GREAT news all around!

Just got back from an amazing holiday cruising around Australia and a bit of Indonesia with my wonderful supporter.  We had a simply amazing time, really appreciating being together after having worked away from home almost every week for the last two years.

There were some amazing sights, including crocodiles and Komodo dragons.

We also got to share a few cold ones with AussieBrian and his supporter whilst in Cairns. It really was good to meet up, especially for our supporters and we also enjoyed bush poetry reading.

Yep, Joe.   I really thought I'd fit in here, but I'm glad to be going back to where I really belong.  Kentucky is a beautiful state and I love Jimi and Ruth but the people here have made it know that "yur not from around here"

Also my family (all in Calif)  have said they need me there.  Stresses me out too much when they call me and I can't do a darn thing for them over the phone.

I'm happy we moved here and we've been able to see all the things we've wanted to see on the East coast we've always wanted to, but it's time to go home where No one will stick up their nose at me and ignore me.

I knew what SLO stood for. Just last week we drove down hiway 1 from San Fran to Santa Barbara through SLO. Stopped in Morro Bay and took some blurry pix of the big rock in the ocean. The people there say that since Bob P and Marc left property values have dropped, businness have failed and the town is dying.  ;D

Modified to add the happy part........I'm not in San Francisco

Well, I had a really great day today, because I spent it with family and old friends at a gun range, arranged by my sweetie of 26 years.

I don’t hunt much anymore, but I seriously love to target shoot - long ranges in particular. Some types of ammo are very scarce right now, but a bunch of people pitched in to make it a great day for me. (My 60th B’day was Friday)  I do a lot of daily backyard plinking in the 0-100 yard range, but it was a major pleasure to play out at long ranges on a private range today.

As I get older, my eyes just aren’t the same – but I held my own against the younger guys out to 300-400 yards. Out past that, yeah, I got skunked…….. I still have a lot learn about ringing steel at 800+.

I was also reminded that my wife can hold a tighter group with her .357 magnum than I can, up close under timed pressure shooting.  But, she was born and raised here in Texas, so pity the bad guy who tries to carjack/home invade her.  Gotta love a real Texas girl.

We shot a lot different stuff, but the Barrett .50 was sort of hard to beat. If you shoot, you know what a good day I had. Darn it was good.

Happy (belated) Birthday, Marc.   :)

Sounds like a really great day of shooting.  I'm an avid shooter (shotguns only with a 38 for protection) so I understand what fun you had.   :)  I  call it instant gratification!

Yeah, I remember hearing about your skill set with clays.......I know enough not to embarrass myself, so I won't even shoot around you!

Besides, I'm down to two shotguns now - my old 1972 Winchester 101 12ga Field Grade which swings like an extension my arm and a newer auto loader which just ain't right, except for self defense. Everyone seems to cry about recoil with the 101, but the old girl was singing for me on Sunday, with no bruises after 300. The young guys loved running 12ga slugs down range, 9 at time with the Mossy 930 Pro. (Gotta admit it's pretty cool to ring a 16" steel plate at 200 yards with a basic Foster slug)

For personal carry - yep, I'm a wheel gun guy. My wife is deadly with her Ruger LCR-357, but my large hands need a larger frame. Besides, pistols/revolvers aren't combat weapons - they are "get off of me" guns.

Folks who don't shoot, don't understand that instant gratification concept - especially when you see all powder against a deep blue sky............

Ah yes...the repeating, revolving firearm, I believe they replaced the flintlock of the civil war era??? ;D

Just jerking your chain. My only shotgun is an 870 wingmaster. Long barrel version of the one I used on duty for 30 years, I like it cuz it's almost indestructible!

That shooting sounds like fun!  Haven't been much in several years.  Let my son have my old Stevens Model 55 pump 12 ga several years ago when the head was so bad I didn't trust myself with it in the house.  use to carry a .38 Special on a .32 frame with a 3" barrel.  Small enough to carry in my pocket without scaring the natives, but long enough barrel to reach out well enough to 50 feet.  sold it years ago when I needed the money.  Wish I had it back.

Went shooting with my sons a while back.  Taught them to shoot when they were little tykes, but after the Marine Corps taught them to shoot the right way they made me look silly!  I can still beat them on the clays, but with the rifle or .45 I didn't come close.  Fun, though!

My good news for today is:  I finally finished my first novel!  64,500 words, that will probably be trimmed down to about 60,000 when I finish editing.  I've always wanted to write, but never had the time.  Now since I've been laid up I've had plenty of time, and I've really been enjoying myself.

The hard part comes now with the editing and proof-reading, then I have to see if I can find a publisher and/or an agent that is interested.  Really don't know if it is any good or not.  My daughter likes it, so I have one fan!

Joe Sprecco gets credit for trying to make it sound like I know what i'm talking about in one area, but the rest is from my fertile imagination. ;D

I take a lot of joking flack for my wheel guns, but you had me laughing! (I hate to see what you'll come up with if I mention my lever rifles in 357 and 44 mag - talk about old school  ;D)  I may not have 17 rounds like your duty weapon did (Glock?) but when a 44 or 357 mag connects with a target, it pokes a reliably large hole.

Yeah we transitioned to the Glocks in the late 90's and retired the old 357's, model 66. Was a very dependable weapon and a hard hitting round but that 17 rounds out of the holster provided a nice cushion! ;) Will always have a soft spot in my heart for the wheel gun.

Jerry,

The key thing here is to just keep going. The rejection letters will seem daunting, unless you remind yourself that by far MOST submissions are bounced all over the place before the right person sees the potential.

Unless you are incredibly lucky, or extraordinarily gifted, your work may go through multiple intinerations before I can buy it on Amazon. Use your Cluster Headache experince to power through WITHOUT folding!

Congratulations, Jerry! Have you ever though about using Amazon's self publishing service? It cuts out a lot of the middle man and you can control the costs.

I think everyone should try their hand at writing a book, no matter how short, at least once in their lifetime. I did it when I was 24 years old. It didn't get anywhere, but I have it in a manila envelope stashed away for when I'm dead and gone. ;)

My FIL has been writing his memoirs for the past 3 years. He has over 6000 pages.

Congrats Jerry, we need to compare. I finished mine too. Got angry a few years ago and everyone I've been meaning to kill off in my life - I got rid of. :)

It was great therapy and it's ain't bad (my opinion). Still needs some tweaking, but it's put on "hold" for now until I can go back "objectively" and read it again and see where I want to tweak.

Maybe some day our friends can say they knew us back when.  :)

And speaking of guns.. I have an OLD .22 that belonged to my husband's grandfather (he died 48 years ago at 83), handed down to his mother and then to him. I'm keeping it for my grandson (Idiot Son would probably hock it). It's a bolt action and works great for shooting (at) coyotes.

Also have a Ruger Bearcat .22 6-shooter that Bill gave me back in '67 that's my pride and joy. short barrel and just fits my "small" hand. Still have the box it came in.

have a closet full of other guns, but those are my babies.  :-*

Thanks for the kind words.  I'm in the edit phase right now, which seems almost the same as rewriting the book!  Then I'll see about turning it over to a professional editor.  I have considered Amazon's self-publish route, but I think I'm going with Smashwords, because it markets books in all eBook formats automatically, and lists it on all the book retailers.  If I want to have it printed I can do that also, and if it is good enough a publisher can contact me for the rights after it is published in eBook format.  I recognize the odds of that happening are extremely rare, but finding a publisher and going through all that entails for the chances of it selling well enough to make a return are slim on a first book.  Hemingway or Clancy I am not.

I have no pie-eyed dreams about great success with it, but i surely had fun writing and am already working on a couple of other ideas for future works.  Hoping I can at least make enough to keep the wolf from the door until I can go back to work.

To those who have offered help with proof-reading, etc. I'll be back with you shortly, with gratitude.  If anyone knows a good editor that is reasonable I would love a recommendation.

Jerry

Tom Clancy didn't get published too quickly either. He had at least one book "finished" before he got "The Hunt for Red October" published by a non-mainstream publisher. It was only when Ronald Reagen was given a copy of the book as an xmas gift and he commented how good it was did his writing career take off.

And RIP Tom too. He was an early internet user and used to frequently interact with people in the mid-90s via the Usenet newsgroup alt.books.tom-clancy, posting mainly under his own name. He'd write about anything from explaining details in his books to current affairs often with information directly from the people involved. It used to be quite an insight to have him email you with information. And at the time it was incredibly rare to have authors interact like that being a decade or more before social media took off.

Similarly plenty of other great writers like Asimov and Heinlein (both masters in science fiction) had plenty of rejections early in their careers.

Again i get back to that old chestnut, we are all different.
Reading Jerry's story, and Mike's knowledge on Tom Clancy.
And then theirs me, whose never read a novel in his life,
i did try once back in the 70's. It was called When the lion
roars, by Wilber Smith, got through the first chapter and
that was it. I wonder if i'm not alone when it comes down
to reading books ?

My husband on the other hand, has never read a book except for the ones he was FORCED to read at school. I loved any lessons which included literature and reading and couldn't wait for my library time.

I'm always with my Kindle (I love those things and can go from one book to another). But I do love to read and always have. I actually ready "Gone With the Wind" when I was about 11 just because it had a "dirty" word in it. :) The Librarian even called my parents when I checked it out thinking it was too "old" for me. But I ready every word till I got down to the "damn" and really thought I was grown up then.

We had a librarian who always made us give reports on anything we checked out of the library and she was surprised when I told her the whole story of "Gone with the Wind". She never questioned what I checked out after that.

Today was yet another day without a hint of a CH. I was chronic starting back in 90's until recently, so this is a whole new world for me.

I don't know if this pain free wonderland is from vitamin D, RC seeds, vitamin M or all of them. Each was savagely branded as Heresy by the screaming hoards back in the day........

Maybe it’s just old age and the chemistry isn’t real – or maybe I just “didn’t do it right.”  ;)

I clearly know that it is indeed good, to go from curled up in a writhing ball of agony exploring the dark and scary parts of my mind - to exclaiming out loud: "Life is Good!", every day.

From my limited (and obviously narrow) perspective, each and every day is indeed good news…... YMMV

Jackie and Jerry,

As both of you know, I've been here since '99, so there just aren't too many "new" things to try beyond BOL. Like so many of us, I have spent hours in agony and holding an O2 mask on the face of another CH sufferer - and watching them cry in the "let down" relief phase of a bad hit.

It's just plain WEIRD to have mine stop like this.......I mean, just plain STOP! Very little "ramp down", no warning. Sort of like when I had my first hit in '78 - but in reverse: Instant and immediate.

I'm not dumb enough to believe that it's really over, but this is the absolute longest break since the high stress period when my house burned down 15 years ago. I got a month break in 2011 when a monster forest fire of burned down everyone else's (1,700 homes) house except mine. Stress (adrenaline) is GOOD!

Once more - I repeat:
- I don't know why they have stopped
- My treatment plan has been Vitamin D, Vitamin "M" and RC seeds
- I have heard that CH's stop when you get really, really old like Bob P and and I aspire to reach that goal......

Life is WAAAAAAAY beyond good now. For those of you born in the right era: It's just plain Bitch'n!

LYG,
Marc

I've just hit 666 days pain free from CH and I am pretty sure I know why. It seems a very appropriate landmark number to post about keeping the beast at bay.

Thank you Batch for doing all you've done with the vitamin D3.

Here is to wishing many others have the same level of success.

Awesome news, Mike, Hoppy, and Barbara!  Not quite that good on my end, but I have had a few breaks of a week or two, with just enough shadows to keep me from going into terror of it coming back.  My hits are much more manageable, rarely going over a K5, which is the best I've been in over 10 yrs.

keep it going, folks.  I wish you a PF life!

Ruthie, the CH world is a small one, we just don't usually know if we meet up with others or not.  Glad they got together.

Good news is I am alive, able to walk, function in life without pain meds, etc...better than 8 year ago on this 1/26th day when I was in a snow sledding accident that caused 8 broken ribs, 1 of them which pierced and collapsed my lung (hemo-pneumothorax), 6 cracked vertabrae in my spine, both front teeth smashed and a coma lasting three weeks to awake to the beginning of a living nightmare of rehab in many aspects.

Under the circumstances, life is fabulous today and that is my good news! ;)

Good news is easy to come by these days.
*I was finally able to get O2 last week and even though I'm still getting 2 to 4 CH a day they have dropped from 7/10 kip to 1/4kip and from 20/50min to 3/4min. This is reason for bubbling over with joy.
*I have an amazing boyfriend (Kyle) who does everything he can for me, including supporting me while I get my seizures and cluster headaches under control.
*Despite my rare hereditary epilepsy and the expectation I wouldn't live to see 25, my 30th birthday is less than 2 weeks away.
*The first band I managed, though not together anymore, are all in my life and over the past years taught me what maternal love feels like. Within 3months all of them have/are turned/turning the age of majority. Each and every one of them has given me reason to be proud of the logical,  motivated, respectful young gentlemen they've become.
*My "Son" Cole's housewarming! XD
*Just to cheer me up, even though he's Always keep it shaved right off, my boyfriend grew out his hair. To everyone's surprise he has a Bob Ross style afro.
*because of the hair my boyfriend's alter ego Digital Shadow is making an EDM song called Happy Trees. LOL!
*we are nearly finished printing a Mendel RepRap with the Brostrap (the RepRep we designed ourselves out of garbage, optic end stopps, drivers & an arduino) and are nearly ready to start making...EVERYTHING! R

more good news...  just won the promotion board.

i am now sergeant promotable.

i saw something that i have never seen before.  i got pretty flustered at the beginning of the board from some pretty vague questions and totally blanked on some simple questions later on.  because of that got three no votes and two yes votes.(which means i dont get promoted)

sergeant major pulled his rank and overrode the no votes.  i have never heard of that happening.  he said he had never done that before, but that he wants to put more stripes on my chest.

i walked out stunned and elated.

Good news, Aubanbird!

My good news is I just returned home after a week in the south.  My eldest son just graduated from the Customs and Border Protection school in GA.  We stayed two nights at a resort he is a member of in Saint Augustine, then drove to North Carolina to spend several days with the wife's parents.  On the way north we spent most of a day at Jekyll Island, and had a great time on the beach.  It was quite chilly to the locals, but since we left single digits and 3' of snow it was shorts and tee-shirts for us!  :D

I'm really proud of my son, Rich.  I have indeed been blessed in my kids!

Forgot to mention some good news personally.  When we went to Jekyll Island I was actually able to walk about 200 yards down to the beach without having to use my walker, and made it back up to the car as well after walking in the sand for a hundred feet or so, and standing unaided for over thirty minutes!  I'm finally getting better.  Not well yet, or able to go back to work, but doing much better!

Fortunately, my daughter was doing the driving, because I slept five hours between there and Asheville, and then slept over twelve hours when we got there. :D  God is good, and has been taking very good care of the Callison family!

since i started "busting", i have seen a lot of dramatic improvements in my life.

i was finally able to get some decent sleep.  so, during the day, i could deal with stuff....  i have finally begun to deal with what is supposedly called "survivors guilt".  basically, i got drunk, called mommy, and cried like a baby about the fact that i couldnt save my buddy when i was in iraq.(i couldnt have gotten drunk when the cluster headaches were ruling me)  that incident led me to seeking help.  it led me to actually talking about my pain, which helped me to move on.  it feels good to be where i am right now.

if it werent for the "alternative treatments" that a "shady" side of this board were willing to share with me(us), i might not be where i am now.  i might be dead, or still living like a zombie.

since i started busting, my career has improved, my self confidence and self esteem has improved, my sex life has improved, my relationships have improved...  everything has gotten better.  i even feel like i am smarter.

im loving life right now.

i feel more confident.  i feel like a new man.  i got recommended for promotion, and i should get promoted within a month.  i started getting involved in the local community.

i have met some amazing people.  i have been debating global politics with some interesting people from the middle east.

i developed a new method for intensive aquaculture.  its just a hobby, but i managed to gain the interest of a prominent aquarium magazine.  i really need to write that article they asked me for...

My good news is that I received two airline tickets to Alaska.

Next month, I will be 46 on 7/13th and 1 day later, my son will be 14 on 7/14th.  We are born 32 years and 1 day apart! ;)

Beginning on my son's 7th birthday, I have taken him every July somewhere special for "our birthdays" to enjoy tent camping, backpacking, mountain climbing, white water rafting, fishing, wildlife viewing, boating, jet skiing, etc deep in the forest of a scenic national park/mountainous area, etc.  This year is Alaska!

We leave in 1 month to celebrate what will be our 8th annual father/son birthday camping trip.  I love this tradition with my son and hope it continues as long as we are both alive! ;)

For some reason I decided to check into this place and I came across this thread.   I've been feeling kind a guilty because I haven't been on here lately.  You see I have been pain free for SEVEN years now.  After suffering for over 20 yrs (I lost count), going through what a
Chronic phase for 5 years, I have actually been pain free for seven years.  I wish I could tell everyone what I did to get here, but I really don't know.  I'm always thinking "when are they going to start again?"  I still have my O2 tanks, one is full, but luckily I haven't had to use it.
I remember a time when I always thought (after one of those 1 1/2 hour HA's that you thought would never end) how much longer can I do this?  I'm 53 now but have been blessed with a nice long pain free break.

I'm always aware they could return any day, but the good new is those pain free days do exist.  I sincerely hope everyone will find those days soon.

Just returned to Sin City from 13 nights of sleeping in a 2 man tent, backpacking over 1200 miles all over Alaska, with my son celebrating his 14th birthday and my 46th birthday.

Anchorage, Denali National Park, Kenai Fjords National Park-Seward, Cooper Landing-Chugach National Forest, and the Halibut Capital of the World-Homer Alaska.

Some highlights included a very unique 8 hour double decker glass roof/dome train ride on the 1 and only Alaska Railroad....

Deep sea fishing in 300 ft ocean waters 40 miles from land catching plenty of Halibut, salmon, cod, pollock and a trophy size Yellow Eyed Rockfish,,,,

Wildlife viewing-grizzly bear, bald eagles, moose, caribou, humpback whales, sea otters, sea lions, seals, seabird rookeries, listening to the beautiful howl of wolves but did not see any, etc,,,,

Hiking through the dense spruce/willow/alder/birch/aspen forests and also the high elevation tundra with the pretty flowers/lichens/moss in sight of the tallest peak in North America-Mt McKinley 20320 ft.

...Amazing 10 hour tidewater glacier tour by boat and another glacier exploration on a different day by foot after several miles of climbing up a small mountain....

Average day was 19 hours of sunlight....well needed cool temperatures in the 30s at night/50s during the day, surprisingly minimal rain....

Met many wonderful people from all over the world...etc.  Lots of wild adventures and unforgettable memories of our 8th annual father/son birthday camping trip!  ;)

Great news George!  [smiley=applause.gif] [smiley=applause.gif]I know I sound like a broken record but 4 years pain free for me, thanks to the D-3 regimen.....give it a shot people, it's cheap, good for you even without CH, and the 4 years of no headaches has certainly been pleasant!

8 days back to this dirty hot desert Sin City and consistently fantasizing of how I can't wait to move to Alaska.

Maz...As for next year, probably back to Alaska to scout a place to move for at least 4 months of the year.  We do have several other places in the USA that we have yet to explore together, but we both agreed after these past two weeks that Alaska is where our hearts are and no where on Earth quite compares.

Jon...Yosemite is on our list, great suggestion!  But the only time we do our annual trips is in July when it's packed with tourists in RVs so probably will wait for a 4 day weekend in the Spring or Fall to check out Yosemite.

Jon...As for San Juan Islands, absolutely!  These are also on our list, but most likely the focus for at least a week of backpacking will be 60 miles south in the Olympic National Forest.

Pics to follow in the next week or so...way behind on day to day stuff to download and edit pics from camera sitting in closet next to unopened backpacks.

Your PFDAN are just delightful news George...I've been smiling for days. SOMEday folks will say....can you believe ch used to be big deal...they even had a website for the 'heads"???....now those folks just talk about the good stuff in life.......

Why...I remember..back in the day 30+ yrs ago when my ONLY hope was to age out of this s@3$t...can't remember where I heard it or who said it...but "supposedly" it went away when you got "old" (whatever that is ::))

My brother and I have an aversion to getting old (though it DOES beat the alternative) and we commiserate about the annoyances...but we ALWAYS get back to the "yeah, but it means Jon's just getting closer to no more ch!!!!"...and we smile...and quit feeling sorry for ourselves. It's a dang strange positive....but I'll take it...

BTW...don't spread this around...keep it on the hush-hush...no jinxes please...I'm going on yr two myself of really low cycle.............................................

PS Pls give the cats a noogie for me...they need it....and El too...she probably REALLY needs it...tho I would love to hear a report on her adventures (you stopped updating but I didn't stop caring!!!!)

Thanks, Jon. :)

Glad to hear your cycles have been low these past two years, and it's good to hear that you're doing ok. We think about you, often, and it's always a huge pleasure to hear from you. :)

El's in her senior year at ISU as a biology major, but she's still writing and drawing. She often asks about you, and I've been passing along the things you say.

I'll be sure to put some stuff up for you to see when I get permission to do so. ;) She's been working on a major writing/art project for several years, but she's not ready to show anyone yet. (Including me, it seems. I've only seen dribs and drabs). Suffice it to say that it blows my mind. It may only be a father talking here, but when she wants to put it out there, we may ALL hear about it.

Always the best to you, my friend.

Hi George,
I didn't age out. I aged in.  :(
I was 57 when it started and with the droopy eyelid and slight numbness that came with it I thought I'd had a stroke. Will it go by the time I'm 150.   ;D

I guess I can add the hypothalamus to the long list of things that are breaking down in my body as I get older.
Everyone told me about the greying, wrinkles and going bald but forgot about all the other stuff  :-/

I have an appt with a local Neuro today!  The past month has been hell.  Worst cycle of my life.  No sleep, hit keep coming day and night.  Yesterday my hubby was fed up and said he was going to get me in to see a Dr.  He sat at his desk and started calling.  4 hours later he had me an appt with a local Neuro!  YAY!!  He is young and I am keeping my fingers crossed he will be open to working with me to manage my ch.

Other good news!  Through all the pain, I have been counting my blessings.  My family, friends and fellow clusterheads have been awesome with their support, understanding, calls and messages!  All of you are how I was able to keep going in between the hits.  Each and every one are appreciated more than you can imagine.  I don't know how I would have been able to make it without all the advice, encouragement, understanding and love.  You all went above and beyond!

I haven't posted much lately, but do pop in from time to time.  I'll never forget this board and how it changed my life for the better!

More good news!  I liked the Neuro.  I did get hit as soon as I walked in the office.  Thank God the place was empty.  Only the office lady and nurse saw.  It was bad and quite a show, but only last about 20 minutes.  The Dr is going to try me on Depakote.  I go back in November and was told to call if I needed to be seen sooner.  I have an arsenal of tools to fight this.  Hoping for the best.

My good news is August 6 marked 37 years of marriage for Linda and me.  It's hard to believe it's been that long and neither of us has killed the other, but I'm very grateful for her.  She's been there for me through all of the ups and downs of CH, besides life in general, and has never complained that I was not able to provide for her the way I wanted to.  Then when I got sick Jan of last year she has stuck with me and encouraged me to stick with it, even though it has been hard for her trying to keep me going.  We make quite a sight going into the Dr's office sometimes!  She pushing me in a wheelchair ( up until about three months ago) while carrying her cane!

I have been blessed indeed!  I thank God everyday for leading me to the woman He blessed me with, and God willing, I would like to spend the next 37 years with her, too.

Hi Jerry,
It is often said that nowadays one could flip a coin on wedding day and the odds are less than 50% that the marriage will last 7 years.

+ 30 and wow,  = 37 years:)

May you enjoy many more blessed years together!;)

I promised her I'd stay for the first 100 years.  After that I'm a free man!   :D

Thanks for the kind words, all!  Brian, I got a life sentence.   ::)

I count myself very fortunate.  Through all the years with CH for me, and the last 10+ with MS for her (fortunately stable), and now with my new whatever it is I have we have been there for each other.  We promised in sickness and in health, and that vow was made to God, not to each other, so I don't plan to break it.  I did faithfully promise my mother-in-law one thing as we were preparing for the wedding though.  I promised the next time I get married I'm eloping!  Oh well, 63 years to go. . .

Hoppy, congrats on 37 years to you, too!

jc

If I'm not mistaken, August 6 was 38 years for George and Ellen.  Haven't seen him on here in a while.  If you know him give them a shout.

My good news is that I've vision restored in one eye. Three days ago I couldn't read newsprint even with my magnifying glass, couldn't recognise people, and leaving the house was a long and painful journey.

It was a cruel blow to a life-long birdwatcher but my bird-listening skills improved no end.

I'm sitting now on DennyM's verandah and can see the Yarrabah Range, the trees and palms, the flowers in her garden, and even a Brahminy kite floating back from the ocean.

The barmaids remain as lovely as ever and this really is a beautiful world.

I can see it again.

My sincere thanks to all for such kind wishes and I beg that everyone look after their eyes and teach their children the same.

I was lucky, got off cheap, but it was a horrible long time stuck in a huge white cloud missing so much. Taking the time to smell the roses is nice, but being able to see them is a bit special, too.

Getting the wrong tinny out of the fridge was awful, Hoppy, and nearly killed me (Swan Lager) but worser still was aiming for the frozen peas and getting a bag of mixed vegetables instead.

Carrots!!! I swear our Kip scale should go way beyond 10.

Maz, you'll always be beautiful to me. CH and all.

Fair dinkum, our world is a lovely place to see.

But AB...I am reminded of the Italian saying re wine: There's only ONE thing worse than bad wine.

And it's NO WINE!

My Mom was Italian and my Dad Scottish.....bah the wine...but ANY beer in the 'fridge is the RIGHT one....or even warm....

I used to cook peas and carrots by the ton...you're right.... I'll take the peas...

Any day seeing any bird...is a day worth living....

There's a buncha folks here in our little corner of the'net that are delighted/relieved/thankful that you can once again see this wonderful world...best to ya brother!

Brian, Maybe this is the reason Castlemaine XXXX is
similar to Swan Lager.

The Castlemaine Brewery was opened in 1896 by Howard Norman Sleigh at Riverside Road in East Fremantle, Western Australia and boasted a successful trading history until 1927 when the company was taken over by the Swan Brewery.

Cheers, Hoppy.

Thanks Jerry.  I check in every now and then (lurk) to see how things are going in Clusterville.  When I dug up the 9/11 thread I could not help noticing the number of ex-members.  Don't know what went down so I guess I haven't lurked all that much.
Anyway, I wanted to check out the D3 thing that Batch came up with.

About three weeks ago I experienced a strange wave of anxiety.  It was momentary but long enough to make it memorable.  Very strange, scary and totally out of the blue.  Looking back I will call it my physiological equinox.

Since then I have been noticing instances of a slight pressure in my head.  It was usually when I was working in the yard and faded away when when I finished. I blew it off with a large dose of rationalization.  Pre-shadow?  I don't know.

Then I began experiencing that sensation...the one where you press your finger on your temple thus spawning more rationalizations.

And now, here I sit, working on my third cup of chicory coffee after two mini hits this morning.  I guess my good news remains but amended to say September was two years and eleven months.  Thank you Lord for that!

Otherwise Jerry, I have been living the PF dream.

Happily, my vision continues to improve. With only one eye working I've no sense of depth or distance, so steps and streets remain life-threatening, but the colours are sensational.

A rainbow bee-eater has taken up residence on the gutter over my window and spends his time diving on bugs so I can see straight through his wings into the sun. I truly doubt any artist could paint such singular beauty.

An emerald beetle more wonderful than any jeweller could create, the forest, my ocean, sunset, a barmaid's smile.

Again I beg that everyone look after their eyes.

It really is a beautiful world.

Title: Re: What's your good news?
Post by AussieBrian on Nov 11th, 2014 at 8:13am
The good news gets better. I was told not to expect a lot from the operation on my other eye but even now, only a week after, the result is sensational.

I can see depth and distance now (much less injuries) and am reasonably confident I'll be able to drive again. The worstest bit really was seeing a silhouette in flight and not knowing whether it was an eagle soaring so majestically, or a horse-fly just beyond my nose.

Just a bit more time and I reckon to see right through women's clothing, which counts for nothing when you've already seen certain lady CHeads and Supporters coming equal first in a wet T-shirt competition, but that's another story.

It's springtime here in tropical North Queensland. The wildlife, the flowers, the colours are beyond belief, and it's a dinkum joy to see it all again.

I wish beer and sight to all,

Brian.

just giving you guys an update...

i am loving my new job.  though, it feels like i left a part of me with the infantry...

but, its not all that different.  im now in 3rd SFG.  the green hats are pretty motivated individuals.  its a different atmosphere though.  the biggest difference is that i am MI now and not infantry.    people told me immediately upon my arrival that my ODA wont really trust me until i show that i can hang with them, physically, but im used to that.  im a small guy.  so, business as usual.  but i can kinda see their point.  im one of only 4 SOT-A guys in the whole group who consistently maxes their PT test and can maintain a fast ruck pace.  im just used to it from my infantry back ground.

so, the good news...  i bought a house with a 60 foot wide pond, two horse barns, a garage/shop, a chicken coop, storage room/tac room...  lots of cool things for projects later on.  lots of awesomeness.

and akina just became a licensed snap-on tool dealer about a month ago.  she is one of two in the fayetteville area, and is the only one that services fort bragg.  so, we are five years into our ten year plan for me getting out of the army.  half way there.  so far, everything has gone according to plan.  i got the job, i completed the training, and i got the re-enlistment bonus.  and promptly spent it to get my wife started with snap-on.  now i just have to finish my five years while akina grows the business, and when i get out, ill just work with her.  making more than i do as a staff sergeant in the army.  im pretty damn optimistic about life.

oh, and my daughter competed in her first martial arts tournament:

My good news is I just finished my second book, "Davy Faraday and the Secret of the Spiral Staircase."  It's another YA novel for younger teens.  Now I have to get it edited and then see about publishing.  I also have a novella that I'm thinking about self-publishing.  Haven't heard back from the publisher on my first novel yet, but expect to any day.  Life here, while curtailed by my lack of mobility is good.

I'm pumped!!!!  Got home from church last night to find an email from my publisher.  He wants to talk with me today about the next step with my book!!!!!  Don't know exactly what he has in mind, but I know it's not a rejection.  They don't call for that!

The publisher is sending me a contract!  Now comes the next part of the waiting game, but progress is being made.  Very excited.

The odds of being a published author are....well...'bout the same as the odds of being a clusterhead....so you're WAY ahead of the game Jer!!!

Delighted

Simply wonderful news. Many, many people try to get a book published, so getting a publisher to take it on great. May it be the first of many.

We are enjoying our time here in Broome, it's nice to get away from cold old Perth for awhile, and just chill, in beautiful 29c days.  8-)

Spoke with my managing editor, my production manager, and another lady that I'm not sure what her function is, but it is something to do with the interior design of my book. We have set June 21 of next year for the public release of the book! It will be available as an eBook a month or so before that time, and I will have copies sometime in October.

If you are interested in a signed copy PM me so I know it is through CH dot com and all proceeds will go to CH dot com. I'm anxiously excited! This is a lot longer process than I thought it was when I got into it!

WE HAD RAIN YESTERDAY!!!! First time in about 45 days... It actually "stormed" here and was "cool" .. big change..

My dogs almost drowned... Poor things would run out in the yard - look up at the sky, then run back on the porch and shake off real good and then run back out in the yard... don't think they remembered what rain was..

The weather guesser calls for more of the wet stuff again today... Fingers crossed... the weeds were turning brown...

Ok, people, it don't take much to make me happy... I'm OLD you know! :-*

Send some rain our way.  Our weeds are dead and the trees are looking bad...

It's still Jerry, and always will be.  ;D Don't even think about Mr. if you want to stay friends!

I use J.L. as a nom de plume (like that word choice?) for my YA fiction, and I'll use Jerry for serious stuff I'm working on.

Ok, "Jerry" but when you come to Texas on your book tour are you gonna remember us "little people"? ;)

Well, those of us who "know where the bodies are really buried"? :-*

Barbara, I don't have a book tour set up. If there is enough of an interest in TX I would love to go down that way. You might not get rid of me!

This thread was (still is) one of my very favorite threads as it takes away from the pain and suffering and doom and gloom and sheds light on optimism, hope, dreams achieved, goals planned, etc. Thanks for reviving this from the archives. ;)

I'm the same, always looking for the lighter side of this nightmare.  My favourite thread would have to be  "Dopiest Responses to CH"  up on the Ch Specific board.

It always leaves me feeling so much less alone.

I confess I don't spend nearly as much time here as this site deserves. This thread, as others have said, is indeed a much needed lift at times.

Happy to say I'm still 99% PF. It's kind of hard to quantify exactly, but it's mostly shadows with an occasional breakthrough, though those are usually when triggered with perfume or some thing of the sort. For the most part, I'm loving life!
