Title: Approved Headache Doctor Listing
Post by Frilling on Jun 7th, 2016 at 11:24am
Hi,  Just wanted to know where I can find a listing by State of Doctors that are specialized in CH.  My husband has had 2 Neurologist and 1 Headache doctor so far.  Looking for someone that KNOWS about CH inside and out.

LOCATING HEADACHE SPECIALIST

1. Yellow Pages phone book: look for "Headache Clinics" in the M.D. section and look under "neurologist" where some docs will list speciality areas of practice.

2.  Call your hospital/medical center. They often have an office to assist in finding a physician. You may have to ask for the social worker/patient advocate.

3. START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE; On-line screen to find a physician.

4. START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE Look for "Physician Finder" search box. They will send a list of M.D.s for your state.I suggest using this source for several reasons: first, we have read several messages from people who, even seeing neurologists, are unhappy with the quality of care and ATTITUDES they have encountered; second, the clinical director of the Jefferson (Philadelphia) Headache Clinic said, in late 1999, that upwards of 40%+ of U.S. doctors have poor training in treating headache and/or hold attitudes about headache ("hysterical female disorder") which block them from sympathetic and effective work with the patient; third, it's necessary to find a doctor who has experience, skill, and a set of attitudes which give hope of success. This is the best method I know of to find such a physician.

5. START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE NEW certification program for "Headache Medicine" by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties, an independent, non-profit, professional medical organization.
Since this is a new program, the initial listing is limited and so it should be checked each time you have an interest in locating a headache doctor.

If you post your location you may get some recommendations from the helpful members here.  I would recommend asking any doctor that you are considering how many CH patients they have, and how their strategies are progressing.  To me that's the best way to get someone with experience and compassion.

Thank you to all posters.

I am searching for solutions for my husband's debilitating headaches.  I found CH forum ... A real blessing.

We have started the D regimen ... Only a few days and loading at 30,000 iu per day.

Dr said he would not and could not prescribe 100% oxygen   So how do I find a dr in York PA area who would be amenable to this protocol. On some list I saw Dr Stephen Ross in Hershey PA mentioned but not sure that list were Drs who embrace the D regimen and 100% oxygen if/ when that fails

Lastly I search for a better understanding of what D does in the brain and why , when norm embraces counts as low as 30-40 as normative, do CH people need a much higher level of oxygen?

Thanks again to all , especially those very long standing dedicated posters.

J

Docs who are certified still retain their judgement in what and how they treat a patient, including what meds, dosing, etc. they will use with any patiet.

You won't find a list of docs who tell you before seeing a patient what and how they treat.

Sorry to read of the pain and frustration. You came to the right place for help.

How many miles are you willing to travel?

I have an extensive list of doctors in PA who are familiar with treating CH's and that were recommended from CH sufferers on this site who reside in PA.

There are no doctors on my list from York. However there may be a doctor in a nearby city. So how far from York are you willing to drive?

Would you drive all the way to Philly, or just over the state line into Baltimore?

I am not familiar with the geography around York PA, so take a peek at this list of PA cities below I have doctor listings for and let me know what's of interest and I will send you the doctor info...

...Allentown, Bala Cynwyd, Colonial Park, Doylestown, Greensburg, Hershey, Jeannette, Meadowbrook, Mechanicsburg, Philly, Pittsburgh, Ridley Park, Wilkes Barre.

Please PM me as I do not check this board often.
