Title: Newbie, kinda..
Post by BWyatt on Dec 30th, 2016 at 8:07pm
At least I'm new to the forum. This demon has been gnawing on my skull for over a year now. Maybe longer. I used to sleep off bad headaches when I was younger until I began to get my ch chronically some time after the start of a new job last year. In this time I've found some triggers, alcohol is a major one. Also my scalp on the right side can not be bumped at all or I will wind up with a ch.

Have you checked in with a Headache Specialist for a proper diagnosis? Just to be sure theirs nothing more sinister that's causing your Headaches.

Hi and welcome

Have you got any CH preventives to cut down how many CHs you get and abortives to kill off a CH once it arrives?

Yes, I have been seeing my neurologist since the second month and my family practitioner saw me the first month. I'm almost 28 years old and a otherwise healthy woman. :)

Hey! Thanks. Yes I was given topamirate 50mg to control the frequency and sumatriptan to abort.

For the sumatriptan this can take 3 forms with the injections and nasal spray ones working well for CH as they take effect in just a few minutes, but the tablets can take 20 min or so to get into your system, which is a long time for a CH.

Topamirate (topamax) has quite a mixed reputation here. It can be very effective for many, however many are hit by side effects which can impair mental processing skills. Hopefully it works well for you.

Be careful when taking Topamax also known as dopymax.

I've noticed about the sumatriptan taking what seems like both forever and no time at all when I have a CH. Mine are the pill form, I may talk to my doctor during my next visit about the nasal spray.

And yes, the Topamax is pretty icky. But it does work for me. I've found that even splitting my topamax dosage in half seems to keep full blown headaches at bay. I try to only take it when my scalp begins to hurt until my scalp stops hurting. That's become a good indicator that a CH is on the way.

I can get almost two months of peace at a time so long as I do not drink even a little bit and avoid running into stuff. Which is a difficulty with being a tall clumsy woman.

I have considered asking my dr about oxygen to cancel them also during my next visit.

Right now a CH cycle just ended a few days ago after I got sick from eating too many green olives.  ::)

Remembering oxygen is an abortive, so at the same time you ask your doctor about oxygen, maybe ask about Verapamil as a preventative, or you could look into the vitamin D regimen which has lots of us on here CH free, myself included.
