There's no way it's fair to blame the cat when someone has left a fish in a bath-tub with the door wide open.

In law this is called variously entrapment, a honey-trap, or the actions of an agent provocateur and all will be thrown straight out of court as evidence gained illegally.

I've used this same defence successfully on many an occasion when caught in the fridge at night.

Poor Kitty!  Yes, I also consider that entrapment, AussieBrian.  That's like putting a bag of chocolate kisses in the cabinet and telling me I can't have one!   ;D

A few years ago my other half had just finished cooking a roast chicken and had left it on the kitchen bench to cool down a bit before serving it. She left the kitchen for a few minutes and returned to see a cat (not one of ours) having pulled it off the bench and trying to get it out the cat flap.

So this kind of thing can happen in real life.
