Title: Cluster Headaches Beginning -- Post by Detrar on Dec 27th, 2017 at 10:34pm
Good morning to all,
I am 28 years old and have been experiencing cluster headaches over the last 2/3 years. After reading a lot of post on this forum, I consider myself ''lucky'' not to be in a very ''extreme case''. I am just having a ''crisis'' right now and it works as following: --> It Triggers with a Approx. 8/10 seconds intense pain. --> Then stop suddenly, and restart for 1 up to 3 seconds every 2/3 minutes or so. It's been going on for 2 hours now. It obsesses me and I can't do anything else but awaiting for the next strike. The last time it triggered was around 14 months ago (October 2016). I stayed ''on'' for about 1 week, with degressive pains and then disappeared. I went to see an ophthalmologist and have been suggested to drink caffeine and follow a ''rehab'' program since my left eye is slightly divergent. (a small lazy eye issue). My questions are : - What are you doing to ease the pain during the crisis period? - On a long term, what has been effective for you, to delay/lower the chances of having more Cluster Headaches? - Is it ''common'' to have Cluster Headaches increasing in term of occurrence and ''crisis duration''. If it happens to me 1 week every 14 months, I think I can handle, but I am pretty terrorized about the idea of having the frequency increasing... is it something I might expect as per your own experiences? Thanks a lot :'( Det' |

Hello Brian, Mike,
Thanks a lot for your prompt feedback and kind consideration. It's been approximately 6/7 hours since the ''trigger'' and I am still having small ''strikes''. It calmed down though. I went through the cluster quiz and I am not totally ''right in the aim'' when I answered question. It seems that the cluster headache pain ''does not stop'' for minutes in a row. Mine is really intermittent with a sudden striking pain and just disappear to re-strike a couple of minute later. It's terrible but let's say that I barely have time to ''endure the pain'' since the strike last 1/2 seconds. I can hardly do anything else in the meantime. I read the description of the ice-pick and it seems to match pretty well with my symptoms, just to the exception that my headache is always at the same location. I can really feel a stabbing pain going from behind the left of my head up to the left eye. Like a pulled nerve in my back skull directly link to the eye . And it's been exactly the same last year. I understand that the subject is indeed really complex. Hard to say for sure what it is until I see a specialist. Good idea Mike for the diary. I'll keep note of the day/length/pain zone. I will see how things develop overnight. If it does not stop by tomorrow, I'll go and seek for professional advise. Which type of specialist would you suggest to visit ? (FYI, I got a Brain Scanner last year, and they did not find anything abnormal). Cheers & Good luck with your pains as well =(, Det' |

We recommend a headache specialist, who is a neurologist who specialises even more in headaches.

Hello Mike,
Thank you. I did not know that there were neurologist specialized in headaches. Thanks again. For kind info, I did not have anymore headaches today. I had the beginning of it for 1 second and then disappeared. I am not in my home country right now, so I'll wait to see if I get another occurrence in the next few weeks. If so, I'll rush at a specialist. Thank you again for your support and good luck to you. Cheers, Det' |

You might do some reading on SUNCT or SUNA. My nuero thought that was what was wrong with me although I am not entitely convinced and he started me on lamotrigine. It has helped lessen the frequency of the smaller attacks but I still get longer ones more like CH...

Hey Detrar,
Are you in a country with more sun than at home or are you eating more fish? Take care, V/R, Batch |
