Haha I saw this article Mike.

I saw today there was another article showing how Kiwis are keeping cool in amongst these 30+ degree heats, pools in the back of utes, pools in station wagons, pools in sheds - a truly ingenuitive bunch!

I, however, stayed indoors this long weekend (in episode at the moment) - ceiling fan on high watching X-Files re-runs! Haha.

And yes I've been smart enough to book next Monday off as a holiday as well so I can have a 4 day weekend with Waitangi Day coming up the following Tuesday! Whoop whoop!

Call that ingenuity?  At least us Aussies would have simply chucked a sick day for the Monday so as to still get the four-day weekend with nothing off our leave-cards!

All the same, CH.com is an international community so perhaps you can find the time to tell our friends from around the world all about Waitangi, its importance, its success, and that such a concept really can work.

Australia is the only country I know of where they have a public holiday for a horse race with the Melbourne Cup, otherwise who knows how many sickies would happen.
