Title: D3 Regimen
Post by Buichi on Jun 13th, 2019 at 5:25pm
Hi There I am new to the group.  I belong to a support group through Facebook that suggested I try the D3 regimen. I am not sure what it is.  I was recently sent to a headache specialist at USC because I have tried so many different medications and nothing seems to work. The doctor wants to start me on Magnesium transfusions but insurance declined so I have now appealed and still waiting a decision.  I was diagnosed with chronic clusters 2 years ago. The only treatments I have received is through pain management. I had RFA done which only helped me for about 3 months. I get nerve blocks every 3 months which helps for a while but then the beast returns.  Lately I have been going into the cycles which I can't seem to break. In the last 2 months I have been hospitalized 4 times. I am in the emergency room about 4 times a week. I have been prescribed oxycodone but have been hearing I should not take this for clusters. I feel loss and hopeless!

Buichi,

Welcome to CH.com. There are a lot of expert patients here to help, so don’t feel hopeless.

Firstly, has nobody prescribed you with Oxygen as an abortive? Oxygen is the very first thing any competent doctor should arrange for you.

While I tried nerve blockers, they never worked for me. I have never heard anyone getting Magnesium transfusions, so I know nothing about them. In fact I don’t recall ever even reading about it.

Oxycodone won’t work and is addictive. They also cause rebound headaches, so my advice is to not use them at all.

I do know about D3. I have been a chronic Clusterhead for the last 6 years and was at my wits end before I tried the D3 Regimen. It was a life changer within 4 weeks of starting and has continued to give me an 80% improvement, leaving just mild daily shadows that are very manageable.

So, read the following paper in full and come back here with questions....as many as you like.

80% of those of us who have tried the D3 Regimen have experienced significant improvements. And remember, there is no medication, prescriptions or invasive treatments involved.

You literally have nothing to lose but you headache.

Best,

Peter.

HEY Buichi,

Your neuro was partly right, you do need magnesium, but that's only part of your problem.  You're very likely vitamin D3 deficient and that deficiency is contributing to the frequency severity and duration of your CH attacks.  The link Peter sent you has all the supplements and doses you'll need along with the instructions for all.

We've made a couple changes since I posted that treatment protocol.  The first is to order the Bio-Tech D3-50 water soluble 50,000 IU vitamin D3 capsules.  You can order them from amazon.com or iherb.com.  You can find most of the other supplements at Costco.  Their brand of Adult 50+ is very important as it is formulated with most of the vitamin D3 cofactors.  It just doesn't have enough magnesium or any vitamin K2 which is why I suggest ordering the Super K with advanced K2 Complex from amazon or iherb.

The Bio-Tech D3-50 are more efficient and faster acting than the oil-based liquid softgel vitamin D3 formulations.  Also less expensive.

The other change is to start this regimen with a 12-Day accelerated vitamin D3 loading schedule taking one (1) of the D3-50 capsules a day for 12 days.  While doing this you'll also need at least 800 mg/day magnesium split 400 mg with breakfast and 400 mg with the evening meal.  You'll also need all the other cofactors shown in the photo of what I've taken since 2011.

What you should do is ask your primary care physician (PCP) for a lab test of your 25(OH)D serum concentration and be sure to get the actual value and not your doctors interpretation of the results.  Your lab test will most likely come back less than 30 ng/mL. That's on the deficient side of normal. The normal reference range for this lab test is 30 to 100 ng/mL.  As CHers, we need to keep our serum 25(OH)D between 80 and 100 ng/mL and higher for some CHers.  for example I'm a chronic CHer and keep my 25(OH)D up around 150 ng/mL.  My PCP has no problem with this as long as my serum calcium remains within its normal reference range.

You'll need to see your PCP again after 30 days on this regimen to obtain lab tests for your serum 25(OH)D, calcium and PTH (Parathyroid Hormone).

Take care and please keep us posted.

V/R, Batch

Thank You for your quick response.  I am definitely gonna give this a try.  I want to get away from taking the pain meds asap. Oxygen has not worked for me and lately I go about 8 hours straight before going to ER.  Again, thanks!

How have you been using oxygen?

You need to use oxygen from cylinders (not a concentrator), using a high flow rate (15lpm but more if faster) and a non-rebreather mask. You need to start using it as soon as possible when a CH starts.
