- and reading how his son has to have a bone marrow check I had to look up how to donate bone marrow in the US.

Is anyone here on the registry? I wish I still could be (I was but my health has stopped me)

Think about it.

I most certainly am. My neighbour has been a match twice now and my step-father recently matched with a 7 year old boy with cancer.

It's not the massively painful process that you hear stories about. In 80% of cases (here anyway) it's very similar to giving blood (just takes longer and leaves you a little tired).

My health stops me too Helen... the thought is awesome though and telling people about the donor program is great.  I am an eye donor... the idea that my eyes or part of my eyes will still be here in the world helping someone else to see always makes me excited... I'm not going to need them where I am going for sure.

I tried and was rejected, too.  Sad

It's especially needed for people of color, since there are far fewer donors. I was quite disappointed that my emphysema makes me a reject.
