planters warts

Has anyone had any success removing planters warts? I've tried over the counter and have had a dermotologist put solutions on and freeze several times. It keeps coming back! Duck tape was suggested and I read up on it and it may work. I am scheduled to have a laser treatment mid July and would like to avoid it if possible. It was described as putting a hot poker deep into your skin. Sound familiar???

Any advice or expereince would be appreciated!

Charlotte - I had several plantars warts on the sole of one foot when I was a teenager. The doc used liquid nitrogen to freeze them (looooonnng q-tip dipped into a thermos bottle, then applied directly to the wart for about 5 minutes). He then cut it out - didn't feel it at all cuz it was frozen. But the nitrogen hurt like hell.

Ached for a few days afterward, but they went away.

He did do one like that on hand like 20 years ago and its gone. He said he doesnt like to cut at the base of the foot because then its hard to walk but I think it's time now. I'm ready to rip my whole foot off!

Also, I'm not sure if the duct tape thing works on plantars warts. I've heard of success stories on regular common warts, but plantars warts go awfully deep sometimes.

The Dr. gave me a shot in my foot $%^# THAT HURT!!!! and then I think he cut/poked on them with a knife and they eventually fell off/out and went away. I do remember that one was pretty deep and I have a scar where it was. Beth

A good doctor should be able to help. I'm not up on the techniques......however....and this is pretty bizarre...my plantars warts were x-rayed out of existence back in the 50s with a little zap. I can't imagine them doing that today. It worked beautifully but I have to wonder just how dangerous that was. It was a big deal here when I was a kid. I've had a few warts elsewhere and one now on my palm, I think. It's part a callous so doesn't bother me. It will almost certainly go away after a time. It can take years though.

I had one on my nuckle on my right hand. I had it burned off, frozen off, cut out everything and dr couldn't get rid of it. I finally stuck it in my mouth and bit down and chomped it off roots and all. It never came back. Nasty but never came back. Left a big hole there and now I have a scar there also. Dont think you would want to try that on your foot though.

Had one on my heel when I was a teenager. I vividly remember the doc injecting it with novocaine and burning it off--stung, but I was already a clusterhead, so it wasn't so bad, really, other than the aroma of burning flesh, LOL.

Ellen also got one when she was a child. We took her to the dermatologist, who recommended that we try the OTC thing with salicylic acid and a patch to see if that would work before he tried freezing it. It worked--wart fell out and went away, so I guess we got lucky. No warts since. I guess that's typical.

Caleb had two on his foot and we "finally" got rid of them with Apple Cider vinegar -- Put it on daily and cover with bandaid. That was after everything else (except cutting).

I've got one now that I'm working on -- latest thing -- Camphor oil at night. Just started that last night but it looks better this morning. Have had it a couple of years and have tried freezing and burning and the vinegar.... Hoping the camphor works....

This sounds crazy, but the last one I had was as a teenager and got rid of it when my uncle "bought" it for a rusty nail... I SWEAR it went away after he bought it.... I guess, if all else fails -- find some strange person to buy the darn thing..

Sounds like the warts are fairly well entrenched. Liquid N2 is about the only way to get rid of them when they are wide spread on the foot. It may require a couple of freezes. Cutting is good if you have isolated patches of them.

I had a roommate in college that had them on 3/4 of his foot. Cutting was not an option because of the area but freezing finally got rid of them.

It was getting a shot of novacaine into each one before the lazer. But I am way use to needles at this point in my life where they don't bother me.

Did the laser treatment work? What ever I do will be painful I think, especially the novocaine but it's worth it if I don't have to turn around and do it again a few months later. This has been going on too long. It's just one, very deep and stubborn. I feel it everytime I put my foot down to walk. I want to try some of Barb's ideas too.Sounds much less painful. I have tried everything else, especially the liquid nitrogen (about 4 times) and nothing else has worked.

Sorry to bring this back up but I have something on my heel that hurts like hell! I'm pretty sure it's a wart. I have treated it with every OTC thing there is. Today I took a razor blade and cut it down to where it was bleeding then used one of those freezing kits on it.

Over our vacation my son said, "I have a weird blister on my foot."

Nope, not a blister. Did he catch it from me? Gross!

One more thing he can include in the tell-all book he writes before he goes on Oprah.

Brew is right about being able to catch them. I swim alot year round and was positive it came from the pool deck or the showers. That's a classic way to catch it. However, I decided to go to a podiatrist for a second opinion before doing laser treatment. I found out the reason it wasn't going away was it wasn't a wart, but some dermotology condition I couldn't pronounce. He took something like a knife with sandpaper on it and shaved it away gradually and painlessly. It's gone for now and if it comes back (which it probably will) I'll go back and do that again. The other choice was an acid treatment, like every 3 days for 10 times (Did I mention I swim alot??) I have to keep it dry too. For now I'll just try this.

Good luck with your foot Jean, your son's too! It's annoying!
