Last trip!
Jun 30th, 2008 at 5:38pm

I'm on the way to Manitoba to deliver on Wednesday, then back home to take a new job!!! Grin  Postponed the start date of the job for one week so that I could complete 250,000 safety miles and get my bonus.  250,000 doesn't sound like a lot of miles to over the road drivers, but that is loaded miles only, and means all trailers were delivered with out any scratches, nicks, dings, etc.  One retired driver who worked with us part time said that comparatively it is equivalent to over 1,000,000 miles in a big truck.  Don't think I did to badly for three and a half years.

It has been a lot of fun, but I'm more than ready to be at home with my family again, plus the new job has INSURANCE!  haven't known what that is for over 10 years now.

Back in a few days.

Jerry

Good for you Jerry!!!

Driving ANYTHING for a quarter million safe miles is awesome.

I'm the fill in driver for my company (wear many hats here). Have yet to make 100 miles without incident. Most famous is the time I dumped cardboard and cooking oil in the middle of a busy road. Is still a company legend and "Jon salad" is frequently thrown up in my face (pun intended). It's a tough job and I have ultimate respect for those that do it right.

So glad you now have insurance. Just one more bullet for the beast!!!

Regards,

Jon

[size=16]Good going Jerry!

Eighteen wheels and a dozen roses
Ten more miles on your 4 day run
A few more songs from the all night radio
Then you'll spend the rest of your life
With the one that you love.
(Kathy Mattea)

Have no idea how many miles I put on.....40 years worth though.
and that song was dedicated to me on the "all night radio" on
my last run.

Gayle.

Congratulations Jerry!

As the wife of a trucker, I do know what a milestone you're reached, and I know how the time away can take a major toll on the family.

Wishing much success in your new job and a flat road and safe ride ahead.

Hugs,
Jen

I'm surprised to see all of the OTR drivers here!!  My son John has been driving for about 3 years now and the miles put on per week is amazing.

He was in Texas two weeks down by the border, stepping over Tarantulas.  Then to Iowa with food deliveries.

He just recently started driving flat beds carring rolls of steel and such.

The time away from family is brutal.  Hopes to get a local route one of these days soon.
