Has any one ever heard of this?
Jul 2nd, 2008 at 9:58pm

My mother went to her heart doctor, they could not get a pulse on her left arm, they tried several times. They were able to get one on her right arm. They didn't send her to the hospital just upped some of her meds and told her to come back for blood work in a week.
I was just told all this by her tonight, she doesn't seem to know. How would you look that up on the net? I must be wording it wrong or something cause I can't find anything about it on Google. Anyone here ever heard of that. I am not up on heart and things, God knows I try to understand it all but sometimes it way over my head.

Yep getting a pulse is a good thing Jonny no matter what arm.
I was wondering if she had some kind of blockage and if so why isn't she in the hospital?
I bet I will be calling her doctor tomorrow to see what she is talking about. I hate it when she doesn't take one of us with her. Then she tells us this stuff just before bed so we don't sleep.

I can't improve on what Jonny says... Cool

Still, I've heard of something like this. I can't remember where. Nasty of them not to be more specific. Others here will likely have better information.

Keep us posted kid.

Yea I will call him first thing in the morning. My brother is having a fit, Mom never listens and gets things mixed up, so I am hoping she is not telling it right.
Two weeks ago she told us she had a knot on her and she wouldn't answer her phone, when she did answer she sound like she was on her death bed. I called my aunt who lives two doors down to go check on her.
She got better fast. Then the next day she called and was talking slow and like she was hurting and my husband went by and caught her out in the yard working. She was just fine.
We never know when she is really sick and if she is telling the truth. It keeps us all upset.
I am not doing her any good tonight, I am taking a chill pill and going to bed.
Thanks guys

Don't get too upset until you talk to her doctor.

There's a possibility that her veins/arteries are very fine and deep and he just can't find a pulse.  Sometimes it's a circulation problem.  It could be many things......most of them not serious.

Searching the net can only worry you more.  You need to talk to the doc for the right answers.

I hate to see you worry like this, Elaine.  It's going to be OK.

Cool

Hi Elaine, My mom had the same thing.  She had no pluse in her right arm.  She ended up having surgery, her cartoriod (something like that, I'm not a medical person) artery in her neck was blocked.  It is always a good idea to get your blood pressure checked in both arms.  Hers was normal on one side and sky high in the other.  Definately something that needs attention asap.

Yes, could be many things. A pinched nerve in the neck or shoulders can tighten muscles and reduce blood flow to one side.  That makes it hard to find the pulse. Worth checking out further, but not always a serious problem.

Hi Elaine,

Sorry you are going through this with your mom.  I've been there before.  My mom had heart problems for most of my life.  When you talk to the doc maybe find out what her BP was.  In BOTH arms.  If they did not take it in both I would pitch a fit and demand that it be investigated further.

My mom did the same thing about pretending to be sicker than she was.  My whole life I was convinced that she was on her death bed!  Every time she got "sick" we would all drop everything and go running.  Finally I stopped.  Wouldn't you know it, she died!   She was 66.  I didn't tell you that to scare you.  Sorry if i did.  I just don't want you to live with the guilt that I live with everyday.  My mom just cried wolf so many time that I didn't recognize when she really did get sick.   She had always gotten better so I didn't take it seriously when I should have.

Don't let your mom drive you crazy.  But, check things out!   Please know that all of this is said with the best intentions.

Hugs for you and your mom!

Jeannie

Oh we don't let anything pass us Jean. We keep a eye on Mom. We never let our guard down. We check everything out. Mom has bad health problems and we know her time is short. I love Mom, and I do and my brother does all we can for her. My brother keeps her house and yard up, takes her to the doctor. I take her out to eat and buy her cloths, food and pay her health insurance, I  had her car fixed, bought her a new dryer. What Mom wants Mom gets. We always check behind her. My brother and I do all we can do for her. I hope we don't have any guilt when she is gone. I hope she lives a long time. Its like everything in my life, I just have to turn things over to God and let him handle what I can't.
My brother should be talking to the doctor now. He went to his office and will call me when he gets home. Moms fine today out in the yard working. She loves her flowers and fish pond.

You sure sound like good kids!

I was close to my mom and I did things for her.  I guess because she wasn't really that old and because she always got better, I just didn't realize that she really was sick that last time.  I just wish I had done things differently.  It was a really hard time.  My dad died 5 months later.

I hope that all is okay with her.  I'll be praying!  Let us know what you learn from your brother.

Hugs,

Jeannie

Jean you are a sweet heart and I am sure that your Mom understands.
I am sure in my heart when you two meet again and you will, the only thing that will cross your mind and hers will be happy times and the good things !

By the way I did find out my brother called, it wasn't they could not get a pulse, but they couldn't take blood from her left arm because the vain would roll. They had to take it from her right arm. The Doctor promised and has it in his charts to call one of us should there ever be any problem.

Hi Elaine.

Here are a few sites that touch on the subject of left arm/right arm
blood pressure variations.
I see from your last post the pulse/blood pressure situation
wasn't the concern after all but I thought I'd post them in the
event they might be helpful to you in the future.   Smiley
