Encouragment if you would
Aug 1st, 2008 at 2:19pm

Hello all of you angels.

I am in dire need of some words. I am in not so good a condition at the moment. God bless my wife. She is helping me. She is working and my son is at day care. They cannot see me like this. I am currently taking Topamax as a preventative. I am on my 3rd month of it. These side affects are way too much. I can't stop crying today. I don't want to do anything! I had to leave work. I can't remember my freakin phone number half the time. I am tired of it. I am sick and tired of it. yet I am scared to death to have another attack. Any ideas as to something to do to get my mind straight? something?

Topomax is referred to as dopymax.  It can REALLY mess with your head.  It made me dumber than a rock, the first time I got on it.

The trick with dopymax, is the amount you are taking, and how quickly you got to that level.  It needs to be started at a VERY low level ... I seem to remember 15mg, to start, and then a little more each week, until you get to a level that works for you.

Usually, the dopiness fades (when slowly built up) after a day or so of boosting to the next higher level.  Maybe you need something else to take with it to get the desired results.  Has your doctor ever tried you on verapamil?  That alone, or combined with dopymax may be your magic bullet.

As far as not being able to get in to see your doctor, call the office back, and ask them to put you on the cancellation list, so that if someone cancels, you can get in quicker.

Hang in there buddy!

thanks y'all. Jackie you were a great help! On the ball. No sooner did I hit that post button and WHAM I get a PM from Jackie. heh thanks for the support you guys.

I'm not too awfully concerned about the dopey part of the topamax to be honest. It's the violent mood and emotional swings. The OMG I'm freaking out now feelings. I work at a university in the telecommunications department design and installation division. I am in constant contact with customers, students, and the general public representing the university. It doesn't do me any good to look like a flippin cookoo bird one minute and lost puppy the next. I'm going to have it eliminated completely. The Topamax that is, but I am now in the midst of yet another doctor switch #4 in the last 2 years. Bleh. I hope this one doesn't take 2 months to get an appointment.

Thanks again for all the help y'all!
