can't stand my boss anymore!!!!!

I wanna smack him. THis guy was my friend before he was my boss.  I thought it would be great having him as a boss.  We both understood some things would have to be different but this guy is a completely different person.  Its the politics, favoritism and the little things that are starting to eat at me.  I am now hoping he fails at his job and gets demoted.  He is the worse boss I've had so far.  You get no support.  All he does is golf constantly.  My definition of a good boss is someone who goes to bat for you.  Your boss sould be someone you want to succeed for.  If I ever fail at my job, the silver lining will be that I failed him as well.   ergh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I HATE "THE MAN"
glad i got that off my chest

Geez...sorry kev... the working life is hard enough without that trauma.

Over the years I've had around 10 bosses. Half I still consider friends, the other half (including one cold fish) at least afforded me the respect and appreciation I thought I deserved. Guess that makes me lucky. Here's hoping your next one has more class.

Totally agree that a good boss is one that will go to bat for you. As I tell my employees, the better you perform, the better I look, the better I look, the better YOU look, and I gotch yer back...

Just remember...what goes around comes around...karma can be a bitch...

Best,

Jon

My boss (who happens to be domiciled 600 miles away from me) calls me up about once a week and asks me if there's anything I need from him.

Kinda says it all.

Work environments are different. I hired an old friend of mine to work for me once. He had the experience needed. He figured because we were old friends, he didn't have to put forth the same effort as my other employees. The other employees saw it as favoritism. I finally had to sit him down and explain it to him. He was fine after that, and everything was cool.

When I was young, I worked for a friend of mine. I did the work, but being young, and fairly new to the work force, I guess I had the same attitude as the friend I hired. I finally understood that work was work, and off work, we were relaxed, and "friends".  Working for someone you know personally is harder. The expectations are different.

I've made some good friends in the company I work for now, all over the country. My last boss was a jerk sometimes, but he did have his good qualities. We helped each other, and he went to bat for me on my last promotion.

My current boss hasn't been with the company as long, and is inexperienced. So I help him, in subtle ways, so he can succeed in his job, and he looks good to our customer. He supports me, and gives me opportunities to help me further my career.

My company has classes available, which transfer to college credits, and it's paid time, paid travel to and from, and paid lodging. My previous boss would never let me, or anyone else, go.  And I'm good friends with his boss, who I've known for years. The company promotes heavily from within, and is always looking for people to promote. Funny thing, the previous boss always said he didn't have anyone who he thought was promotable, even while his other employees were complaining to his boss that they couldn't get training, and job postings were deleted before anyone could see them.

Some people are good at being bosses, and some people aren't. I always just do my job, because there are other people who notice your work, besides your boss.

Kev....take that "friend" out after work, sit him down, buy him a beer and a burger and "splain"   things to him.

If that don't work then I am with Jonny.  He never was a friend.  Only out for whatever he could get.

You said you want to smack him.  Do it.  Then start looking for a new job with a boss who doesn't know you.  Wink

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.     Linda

I wish I could leave.  This is a great job when dealing with CH.  I am fairly young (33) and have almost 10 years in with the company.  At 53, I can walk with full everything.  This guy is middle managment and I do not see him as a candidate to being promoted any further.  I like my job most of the time and have no ambition of moving to management.  So we could be stuck with each other for alot of years.

We have had plenty of beers over the years together.  I have learned not to talk about work when we are out because anything I bring up, he perceives as me complaining.  And he has an arrogant, know it all attitude.  So I stick to non work conversations. I have come to the conclusion that all conversations about work will be only those where I need him for something.  Other than that, I will bury myself in work to make ME successful.
