Olympics hangover.....
Aug 15th, 2008 at 6:11pm

I have been staying up way too late to watch the Olympics, by today I feel like hangover-ish. Loving every minute of it though. TGIF so I can sleep in tomorrow!

Have a great weekend!

If you had any hangover feelings the adrenaline rush killed them tonight! Phelps 100 Fly was as phenomonal as the 400 Free Relay. Dara Torres continued to display such incredible talent and a wonderful sense of compassion as she assisted a swimmer having a torn suit. What a night! The culmination was a great interview with Mark Spitz and Phelps. I sure love swimming!!!

Please, don't anyone take this personally, because it's not intended that way at all, but....

Yawn.

Just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks for posting your opinion, Brew.

Personally, I think the Olympics are a fantastic, exciting, and wonderful exhibition of atheletic ability.

I love the Olympics! Smiley

Brew,

I won't take it personally but why Yawn???? From the opening ceremonies where an artistic display of technology that has never been seen before. The swimming has had some historical moments and some real excitement, the gymnastic teams have had their moments as we watched the men come from behind and our women take gold and silver for the first time ever. The basketball games will continue to entertain. The stories of many overcoming lifes disabilities. I'm sure I've missed much of what happened last week but what is boring about all of this?????

Believe me, I'm glad you're excited about it. I tried again, and I just can't get the ol' olympic mojo goin'. There's too much about the whole thing that turns my stomach that I think it spills over into the entire concept.

Here's three, just as an example:

1. The Chinese bureaucracy yanking the little girl with the beautiful voice, making her sing offstage and having a cuter little girl lip sync.

2. Olympic baseball rules allowing teams to start an inning with men already on base.

3. Chinese female gymnasts who are obviously much younger than their government "certifies" they are.

There's just too much about it that has soured me. I don't deny that Michael Phelps is perhaps the most incredible athlete the modern world has ever seen, but I'm not even close to getting excited about the whole deal anymore.

And that's all my problem, not anyone else's.

I love the Olympics also! I watched the opening ceremony and little something every day. My favourite was, naturally, this Monday when Finland won the gold medal (women's trap) and Usain Bolt's world record run is close second.

I agree with you Brew. Two of my issues as well as yours are how did China even get the bid with their poor air quality and the tradgedy of the death of the volleyball inlaws. I guess when you said "yawn" I had more the idea the issue was boredom. Unfortunately the Olympics has always had some kind of cloud over it. One of my friends sister was a bronze medalist in swimming,1980 (Wendy Weinberg) Later it turned out that the gold medalist was positive for banned drugs. I guess I just try not to focus on the negative aspects of the games and try to enjoy all of the good that is there.

I'm with Brew. China lost me too. There have been some stories that the Olympics has actually slowed China's liberalization with all their "careful planning" making everything go like clockwork. Didn't work. Now that's really sad.

I'm a winter Olympics freak anyway. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

I have to admit, Jonny, that was funny.

But, I love the Olympics winter and summer.  I watch as much as I can, even though I get up at 5:30 every morning, so the later hours are taking their toll.

I agree, China is fudging on the ages of their female gynmasts - that one girl can't be more than 12, and the thing about the singer at the opening ceremonies is completely stupid - the actual singer wasn't "cute" enough??? Give me a break.

But, watching the athletes from all over the world is phenomenal.  They have all worked so hard to get to this point  Each and every one of them deserve our admiration and applause.  Besides, it's better than anything else on network TV  Smiley

The fireworks were computer generated too. You don't suppose that security had something to do with that? Not sure here.

I’m with Brew & Charlie; I just can’t switch onto the games held in a country of such repression.

I've been watching here and there, can't seem to find my favorite sports when they are on. But Google has been changing their logo every day the olympics are on.

This was today's.
