Lunar Eclipse
Aug 16th, 2008 at 6:17pm

Here some pics of todays lunar eclipse that I took near the maximum (21:10 UTC).

They are not very sharp because of the hazy sky, but it was much better than the last 10 lunar and solar eclipses that I "saw" through heavy clouds and rain.

Ueli,

From NASA's lunar eclipse site, this is a page from a guy that offers tips on photographing a lunar eclipse, if you are interested in some techniques for the next one.

Techniques are, the wide angle, star trail (with a chart for Field of View and Size of Moon's Image for Camera Focal Lengths), and multiple exposure (with a Lunar Eclipse Exposure Guide).  The photos on the page have some specs.

Also telephoto photography with a Focal Length vs. Image Size depiction, and a triple play totality photo.

Did you know that a total lunar eclipse verifies Einstein’s energy equation?

Galileo first saw this phenomenon with his first telescope.

The gravity of the sun actually allows you to see stars that are directly behind it because the fabric of space is warped or in layman’s terms the gravity of the sun is strong enough to bend the light and cause a Doppler shift in the stars color spectrum.

I love astrophysics! Cool

That was a solar eclipse, testing general relativity.     Wink
