Checking in (important message as well)
Aug 31st, 2008 at 10:40am

HI!
I am checking in because Melissa asked me to Smiley

Everyone is doing okay. Haven’t been around much because my family needs me.
Hubby is great, My older boys started school last week 4th grade and 8th grade and Zeke starts pre-school next week.

Zeke was given a provisional Autism diagnosis in August 2007 and we’ve spent the past year making sure he has the services he needs and having lots of early intervention therapists in our home daily.  The dx was confirmed this past June. Zeke is still as cute and sweet and brilliant as ever…. . Communication is one of the big things we are working on with him.

The subject of Autism and its treatment, cures and causes, is not up for debate here, so please don’t.

I am talking about it because maybe it might help someone else to know that early detection and early intervention is so very important if a child has special needs.

Zeke was dx at 20 mos, but we had become concerned and started requesting services before that. From the start, Eric has been taking the best care of us…..he is a vital part of this whole thing…and I thank my lucky stars that Zekie has his “Uncle E.”

During the past year we developed this website and communication system. This was key to helping Zeke become verbal and begin to communicate and we hope it can help others as well.
Be sure to see the "what is Communipix "section.
Feel free to check it out and forward:

And as for as me…sometimes my head hurts and sometimes it doesn’t and that really hasn’t changed much…lol ... I get up at 5:30 every day, walk the dog, see the sunrise and live my life!

may you be well and PF!!!
hugs,
-Rori

Sometimes God, in his infinite wisdom, sends a very special child to very special parents.

btw, looked at your site and those cards are awesome.  Could they be used with deaf/mute children or perhaps children with selective mutism?

Sure!
Zeke started using Communipix along with sign language. At the time we did not know if/when he would be verbal.

And sometimes God gives us special friends with whom to share our troubles and joys.  We're here beside you and Zeke and family all the way dear, ALL the way.

My brother's son, Steven, (24 now) is autistic--so I have a small understanding of the challenges you face each day, Rori.

You're right--early intervention is key.  I'm so very happy to hear that Zeke is receiving exactly what he needs from a loving family.

All good wishes to you and yours,

George

Rori, I'm glad to hear you and your family are doing well, and Zeke has his Uncle Eric. Bless you all.   Smiley

Strength and perserverance through adversity.

I applaud you and your family Rori, for not only being so proactive in finding a way to help Zeke communicate, but also sharing those new tools  with others.

Hugs to you all,
Jen
