Hiccups
Sep 2nd, 2008 at 1:56pm

I get the hiccups a couple times a year.... I have them right now, bad!  I have to get the kids at the bus stop in less than an hour (along with other parents that I just met) and really don't want to be hiccuping (is that how it would be spelled?) down the road.  What a silly sight that would be!  The home remedies I know of are holding breath (been there done that) chugging water (ditto), someone scaring me (alone so that won't happen... atleast I hope!) and plugging ears, nose, and closing eyes for as long as possible (that usually works after a minute or less) but none have worked.  Does anyone have any different things to try?

And yes I know this is a stupid topic, I'm just bored.  And whynot ask a weird question!

Well the plugging nose, ears, and closing eyes worked the 3rd time around.  But still if anyone is interested in sharing home remedies, pls do so!  I love to hear home remedies.

Suck on a lemon wedge that has been sugared and soaked in bitters.

Drink a 12 pack of beer! Then, when you get the hiccups you will think they are from the beer and they will be gone after you sleep it off! Cheesy

Thats my story and I'm sticking to it Roll Eyes

Here is what works for me:

***fill up a glass with water and cover the top with a paper towel. holding the sides of the paper towel down with both hands, take a drink of water through a paper towel. Works for me everytime.  Smiley

Also bitters works well but had a bad experience with it once.  Wink

Find aloneness somewhere and just relax. I mean
mega
-relax. Focus on not having the hiccups.

Works for me every single time. Within 20 seconds, usually.

LOL! My daddy used to tell me to hold my breath till they went away..........
BUT
He also used to tell us to go play on the freeway with broken glass!

Good thing I knew he was a jokester......the broken glass thing coulda been deadly! Cheesy

Glad your hiccupless, TA!

LOL TA!

What works for me every single time is to take a glass of water and swallow 6 sips without taking a breath in between.  It doesn't work if I just try to swallow nothing 6 times - I have to swallow water or something.  But that works every time for some strange reason!

Glad you got rid of them!  An Uncle of mine once had to go to the hospital because he couldn't stop and was having a hard time breathing!  They use thorazine for hiccups, too! haha

Hugz,

The only thing that worked for me was my friend telling me "hiccup now" every few seconds for a minute or so.

It was cool cuz it really worked, so concentrate and TRY to hiccup on purpose for a minute or two.
