Stop and smell the roses
Sep 4th, 2008 at 9:47pm

With all of the craziness in this world, at times we need to be subjected to things that can bring us back to reality from time to time.

As some of you know, I work at a children's hospital and although it can be tough seeing sick children, we know that they are getting the best care possible.

I went into work today expecting to work the usual 8 hours and then head home.

I went with a co-worker to get breakfast from one of the lunch trucks outside of the hospital and saw a family walking to the entrance of the hospital.  The mom was carrying their baby and next to them was the dad who had some sort of neurological disorder.  This man's legs were wobbling and shaking and it looked as if each step he took was causing him pain but with each step he took, he was smiling and talking to his baby.

Later in the day, I was taking the elevator back to my office and was joined in the elevator by a mom and her little daughter.  This little girl, who had bone deformities of her arms was sitting in her stroller quietly until I said hello to her.  She started to tell me about how she was going to "swimmin' therapy" and then asked her mom to show me her new bathing suit.

Yes, working at a children's hospital you expect to see things that will break your heart but at the end of the day, you just have to realize that things just aren't as bad as you think they are.

My youngest son has spent some time in St. Louis Childrens Hospital, (on more than one occasion), and i have always thought that to work in a childrens hospital, would be the most rewarding job in the world, AND the toughest job in the world. A job I could not bare to handle. You my dear and your co-workers are truely, "angels on earth" . May the good Lord bless you ,,, repeatedly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  THANK YOU for what you do. 862 years ago, when I was doing all the clown work (YES, I was a professional clown) I used to visit the children's burns hospital in Boston.  That was the hardest job I ever had to do, but I went religiously to them.  It tore me up to see how those children were suffering, but I kept going back.

There were times when I had to leave the room for a few minutes, cause clowns are not suppose to cry.  And I shed many a tear in that hospital!

Then I was blessed (?) with the beast.  I just couldn't do the clown work anymore, AND deal with the beast.

Bless ANYONE that can and does work with children in hospitals.  It has to be the toughest job on earth!
