Relocating update!
Sep 18th, 2008 at 4:26pm

Well, after my telephone interview last week and Stephen's on Monday, we have both been offered good positions with a company called Northern Trust in Guernsey (sorry Tanya!). They have offered us a good package which, to me, seems too good to turn down!

I'm raring to go, but Stephen is very reserved and likes to really think and research everything. It takes him a week to decide if he wants to buy new jeans, never mind up-and-moving right off of mainland UK (it's the accountant in him!!), whereas me, well I bought our current house while out visiting a friend. It was for sale, but unfinished so I couldn't even go in the property but signed on the dotted line in the sales office all the same!

It's very exciting, but not sure about telling my employers. I'm about to sit exams in 3 weeks and don't want them to turn around and tell me I can't sit them so I'm going to wait to hand my notice in. Is that a bad thing to do? I feel guilty about not telling them!

Em

PS - I also feel so very guilty about posting this when so many people are struggling with jobs at the minute, so please know that I'm sending vibes out to every one of you for luck and success. xx

Em,

thanks for the update! Smiley

I hope that whatever you and Stephen will decide will turn out for the best for you both. Maybe it is good that you have different decision styles; that means that you will see the issue from all the sides, which can be helpful.

Lots of good luck with the exams already!

Sanna

No!  Two weeks notice is common here in the States.  It's called at will employment for a reason  Wink

Good luck with the move and the new positions  Cool

Thanks folks. We're really starting to get into the planning now - logistics, housing etc. It's very exciting!!

Hard to believe we can just pack up the life we've built here and move it all in 7 weeks. But you've got to take advantage of the doors that open up, right?

Ha ha ha! I love the rivalry. Are there any sporting events between Jersey and Guernsey?

On the plus side, I'll have a great excuse to visit Jersey now - it's not too expensive on the ferry. I checked already!!  Wink

I'll be expecting the grand tour though Tanya!!  Grin

In Wisconsin, that would be the World Dairy Federation Smack-Down.

The grand tour is guarented, that goes with out saying.  There is an annual football match that is taken very seriously by those that can stand the game (not me), maybe more, I just stay away far far away.

I have a cousin who moved there in his late teens and stayed, so it must have its good points, you may find some hopefully.

Get ready for a more chilled out way of life , and enjoy the new.  Already looking forward to the vist, Wink
